After listening to some old Jethro Tull records I started thinking about how much potential there is in the flute. Does anyone know of some great jazz or rock flautists that they can recommend?
Thanks,

Nathan "Flutebox" Lee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF2hzA5RNwg) is pretty awesome.
But on the other hand... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wqfcwgT0Ds#t=1m40s)

I had a few sessions with this guy Dennis DiBlasio who plays flute and sax. His schitck is he sometimes scats while playing flute

Dunno if jazz musicians actually care about this guy or not but he was definitely at pretty much every jazz convention I went to in high school whatever that means.

Rahsaan Roland Kirk:

sometimes he would play three flutes at once, two with his nose

that sounds like an excerpt from a limerick

Eric Dolphy was a critically-acclaimed jazz flautist. I'm not too familiar with his discography, but I know that he did a great collaboration with John Coltrane's quartet (which I can upload, if you like).

I knew there was something I was forgetting. I was going to recommend Moody Blues but their flute is more for ... ambience/psychedelic/world feelings than rocking out.
But try Focus. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGaVUApDVuY)

I've always liked the flute on this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsg63KOmE1A). However, it's the only song of theirs with flute on it.
