Fear And Loathing In Mexico?

This trailer perplexed me.  Is it for kids? Is it meant to be funny?
It didn't strike me as funny but it also didn't reveal its audience to be explicitly kids.

The fact that it's not made by Dreamworks means it probably won't have its morals shoved ham-fistedly down your throat through the whole movie, although Gore Verbinski is not exactly reasurring either.

Yeah, it's a pretty obvious reference to Raoul Duke in Fear and Loathing, but I think this has the potential to be really cool if executed properly. I just hope the whole movie isn't shit chasing him, haha.

Sorry to necro, but I just saw it and figured I'd search for a thread about it.  I thought it was extremely well done, and I'd recommend it.  Has anyone else seen it?

Saw it and loved it. One of my favorite animated movies of the year.

I thought it was a pretty deft merging of themes and images from Fear and Loathing and the spaghetti westerns. The voice cast had some pretty big talent and the animation is just crazy nuts stunning.

I liked it!  The references to F&L were pretty funny, but not unexpected.

More than that, I just like the way plot and characters and everything turned out.  The way a homeless, directionless chameleon finds his direction and so on was well done in a way that kids especially can find meaning and interest in.  Plus, I liked the way the final confrontation with Rattlesnake Jake played out.  I'm a sucker for stories such as this with heavy themes that are accessible for kids.

I completely loved it. Extremely clever writing, beautiful animation, and great voice performances. I really could not find a single thing about this movie that I didn't like.

I really enjoyed it, too! I absolutely loved the rattlesnake. What they did with his tail and voice (Davy Jones of PotC!!) was chilling and stunning. I was really impressed. I liked the part with Clint Eastwood, too--nice throwback! The themes in the movie were also really well done. This was definitely a movie I appreciated. That said, my mom hated it. :/ She thought it was cheesy and didn't like the character designs. Pff. I think she's the only person I know that didn't like it. Also, I totally wouldn't have picked Johnny Depp for this character if I had just read the script, but I am so glad they did!

I love Rango.  My kids love Rango.  That's pretty much all that matters to me.
