So for those of you not in the Northeastern US, it's REALLY HOT. Code Red air alerts and days of 105+ weather for the last week and a half. What I'm looking for is music that feels appropriate to this suffocating blanket of heat. I'm thinking along the lines of some decent garage desert/krautrock, slow jazz-type music, caustic two-piece bands, anything that evokes a shimmering oasis in the light of a blood-red sunset or the fever dreams of a Southern man indulging in too much achewater.
Ideas to start:
Brightblack Morning Light
Titan
Tweak Bird
Akhmed
Mammatus
Harvestman
Any other good stoner/shoegaze is also fair game.
-
KVELERTAK
....and Torche.
-
I was gonna say Tweak Bird, but you're obviously already on it like bonnets, so I'm gonna go with something completely different instead and recommend Shapes Like Dinosaurs, a fucking kickass math-rock band that has been blowing my mind one piece at a time for a while now.
check out the song "Grandaddy" if you can because it is The Shit.

ive always found daturah is a pretty good hot day band and that kind of falls in what yr looking for.
-
Isn't there a Motown single called 'Heatwave'?
-
...which was also covered by The Who.

"Summer Sessions Vols. 1, 2, and 3" by Causa Sui.
Case closed, basically.
I'm mean, you COULD find more music that was good, but you don't really NEED to.
-
uh, guys
creedence clearwater revival
-
if you interpret the lyrics right, Bad Moon Rising is about the zombie apocalypse
therefore I approve wholeheartedly
-
Dub reggae, for my money, it the only appropriate music for oppressively hot, sticky summer days.

Not just a single, one of Motown's most famous songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ-aDCZ5kxg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ-aDCZ5kxg)

I third CCR. Also, maybe Queens of the Stone Age, and I always thought the Black Keys would sound good in hot weather (incidentally I live in Jersey and have been suffering the heat too, but haven't been listening to the Keys, although I started Attack & Release about 25 minutes ago).
-
Smith Westerns is pretty great
-
I've been listening to a lot of still unfortunately-genre'd chillwave artists like Memoryhouse, Jamie Long, Bathcrones, and CFCF.
-
Drowning out a heatwave with chillwave? You're a silly man.
-
Did not even realize that. hurrrr
-
Sludge metal ya dumb jerks
-
all i got from that was "listen to chillwave at half tempo with yr subwoofer turned up to 11"
-
Well then you weren't paying attention and also you're probably a bit "special"
-
that's what the doctors say
-
Those kind of temperatures require bass-laden, fuzzed out, balls to the wall stoner rock.
aka listen to Slo Burn you fucks
-
I hear you dovey. or read you, whatever

Certainly worth listening to, then.

Definitely danced to 'Heatwave' at my friend's bday party last night.
i've been really into this guy Bryan Moon (http://www.myspace.com/bryanmoonmusic). His stuff is suuuuper laid back, just chill hip hop grooves built from samples. He's still developing as an artist, but he's got great shit to build on.
Besides that, I've been all over Boards of Canada and some tropicalia, like Os Mutantes and Gilberto Gil.

Drowning out a heatwave with chillwave? You're a silly man.
how did it take so long to make this joke
-
Eskimo by The Residents, the only sure anecedote to the heatwave.

You may find some ideas in this old thread (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,19676.0.html). The first track of my offering (http://www.mediafire.com/?y2gmwmcbeti) (Summertime by Gershwin) is pure heatwave music, I'd say.
-
can't believe I didn't think of this until now, but: All Girl Summer Fun Band!
it's perfect summer music! I mean, it has "summer" in the name, come on!
-
i'd go with Torche, Fu Manchu and Kyuss. all three (but particularly Torche) have those melodic guitar parts that, for me at least, evoke images of heat haze above an asphalt road.
also, i'm not sure how many on here would agree, but i've always found that Less Than Jake's "Hello Rockville" to be perfect summer/hot weather music, and likewise Alkaline Trio's "Good Morning" (in spite of the snow/cold references in the lyrics).
