huh
anyway if they can't save themselves then Disney/Pixar should sweep in and buy 'em, no doubt.
-
Yaaaaaaaay!
Hate choo.
Man, I do not want Ghibli to tank. They are too awesome. :c
-
This is the opposite of good news.
This is bad news.
-
Yaaaaaaaay!
Brought to you by the Pixar Studios Social Club
-
how do you figure that
-
yknow
what with pixar taking every opportunity to point out that they basically wouldn't exist without Ghibli
-
Sure they say that but you know the resentment just builds up every time Miyazaki releases a film and they get slapped in the face with his dick.
-
What
-
How did I not know Miyazaki's making a film based on The Borrowers?
Because that fucking rocks.
-
Made. It's been out for two months in Japan.
I haven't heard good things. And by haven't heard good things, I mean I've heard great things, just not as great as usual.
-
I remember when I was a kid the old Borrowers TV series was the only thing I'd seen Ian Holm in (apart from doing the voice of Frodo in the BBC's LotR radio series), then I saw Alien when I was 11 and I was like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

:|
Well that sucks. I hope things work out. I'd miss their movies.
-
I guess my question is, why have a Ghibli if you don't have Miyazaki (not just a Miyazaki, mind you)? And it seems rather unfair to expect him to keep pumping out films till the day he dies. I mean, he's almost 70 years old. We're talking about a small number of potential films to go, and I didn't really like Ponyo all that much. What I'm saying is, it's got to stop sometime, dude's had a full career, could probably enjoy a retirement.
And what's this about a Porco Rosso sequel? That best be some conceptual, not-actually-a-continuation-of-the-story shit. That movie is a gem, possibly the most perfectly crafted film Ghibli's made; call me a crank, but adding to it or trying to remake it seems to me unequivocally to be a mistake.
-
I'd agree that this announcement would be more troubling if the heir apparent hadn't died unexpectedly at 47.
-
WHAT!?
I hope Ghibli survives
I don't think it matter's if it's Miyazaki making the films as long as they follow the ethos that he started
and I really hope they don't get bought out and homogenised by some mega-corp like Disney
-
I dunno, their interaction with Pixar seems to have had some good effects within the animation division of Disney. It would at least be interesting to see what association with Ghibli could do.
-
This is some of the most rather troubling news I've heard in... years.
Ghibli has made some of the greatest movies I've ever seen... I've been following their work before their Disney collaboration, back when the closest thing to an English dub was the dreadful chopping of Nausicaa into "Warrior of the Wind" by a ridiculous American media company.
I haven't been this upset since the wrenching ending scenes in Grave of the Fireflies.
