So, in non-QC news, it was announced this morning that the new expansion for World of Warcraft will be released Dec. 7th. Why do I bring this up in the QC discussion thread?
We have a couple of characters who play world of warcraft, and I think the drama that ALWAYS comes with an expansion to an MMO would be a great background to some QC strips featuring Marigold. Plus, you know, the two chars I identify the most with are Faye and Marigold, and Faye has had more comic time.
ANYWAY - For those of you who don't know about expansion drama (or xpac bs), here's a list of standard occurrences.
1) Guilds breaking up or having huge amounts of drama - Since we aren't really getting any kind of new content until the expansion, people get bored. And when they get bored, they generate drama. Every guild has drama drama drama at this time. This same Drama also causes a lot of guilds to crash and burn, leaving their members to find new guilds/groups to hang out with.
2) Faction Betrayal - Often, players will switch factions to try out the new race, or in the case of Wotlk, they made a DK because then they could have an "endgame" char without having to invest a lot in the opposing side. I can totally see Marigold and Dale (is that his name, i can't remember right now) both rolling worgen (werewolves for non players) and grouping up for some quests, only to learn the 'dark truth' that marigold is an unenlightened hordie, and it is Dale's sacred duty to show her the light of the alliance. And maybe his junk. :3 (Oh wait, maybe you can guess which faction I play now.)
3) Everyone sucks at everything (at first). When the patch before the xpac hits (which is expected sometime in the next 2 weeks), it changes how everyone's class is played. So, for a while, everyone who plays sucks, simply because they have to relearn their class. People sucking often leads to more of Item 1.
TL;DR - More Marigold Please. Get her to switch factions Please. Am I allowed to ship her with Dale? (or whatever the hell his name is.)

YEAH! As a (non-WoW) gamer who loves Marigold and Jeph's WoW strips, i totally favor this!
Thanks for the insider's info on the dramadrama
(yes, it's Dale.)
-
We actually have four WoW players in the strip. According to Sven's Twitter, Elssa Bianchi is in his guild.
That makes WoW playing as popular in the strip as being a Coffee of Doom employee. Unless you still count Raven, Dora has four people working for her.
-
I'd prefer to see a rivalry between them.
"Do you expect me to count everybody who tries to kill me?"
"No. I expect you to die."
-
but rivalry+sexual tension=windrama!
i never thought I would say that... oh god someone shoot me. Never let my guild hear of this... i don't want them to think drama is win.

Context is key.
Drama in real life is a pain in the ass for those it affects, but is popcorn-munching-happy-times for those who get to watch.
-
Especially for those who get to watch it happen in real life. The trick is not to get too close to the drama-vortex, and get sucked in somehow. Keeping a safe distance and still being a friend to your drama-enduring friends can be a tricky tightrope.
And no, I don't plan on giving any details!
-
You don't need to. We've all been there.

Don't think it is actually possible. All you can do is try to duck the worst of the shrapnel.
-
I see that my prayers are being answered with today's strip!
-
It sucks when you think you've got enough distance from the drama only to get blindsided by it when you least expect it.
-
Man, the potenial for story is just awesome! :-D It's been awhile since Marigold has had any adventures of her own, and been forvere since Dale through down the gautlet. I really want to see this rivarly go somethere, and what better way to stir up drama then the Warcraft expansion? (Movie Trailer voice) Alliances are broken! Friendships are shattered! And...and some other third thing!
Seriously though, I ended rolling a Worgen just to sample the alliance side of things. Next thing you know it, I've switched sides having seen the light. And by light I mean, discovering that for some reasons, all the attractive girls on my serever where in the Alliance. Who knew?
-
*cough* Dale and Marigold....
Dale has already been plotting something against Marigold in several strips.... A Romeo and Juliet forbiddenly....
"Marigold, oh Marigold, wherefore art thou on the wrong server and race....."
-
Seriously, a Mari/Dale strip would be a nice break from all the Marten/Dora postmortem.
-
Hell, so would a Angus-Faye date.
So long as they don't spend it doing what we're doing, going back over the Dora/Marten debacle. (DEB-acle? de-BAH-cle? Damn, it says both are right! I'm so confused...)
-
toh-MAY-toe, toh-MAH-toh
-
So long as it's not "da-ba-CLEE" I think you're probably OK.
-
the sword of debaclees?
-
It's de-BOCK-ull, dammit!
Don't make me get out my broom!
-
Personally, I prefer de-BAH-cle. It's just the way I'm used to hearing it here abouts.
-
That's all I hear anymore, too. But I grew up with DEB-acle. I was about 16 the first time I heard the second syllable accented, and it took me a few to realize what the person had said... and that's the only way I've heard it since.
The suddenness of the change has always bothered me. It was like everyone around me - parents, teachers, newscasters - up and decided they'd been doing it wrong all along.
Sorry for the thread derailment. I'll go back to yelling at kids to get off my lawn snow now.

It doesn't bother me much when people pronounce things differently. I have a quirk where I will repeat a word that I think sounds interesting, changing the accents and cadence until it ceases to be anything but a collection of sounds. I find language interesting, the wherefore and why of how certain sounds came to mean certain things. Fascinating to me..

Me too! It's how i process language and pronunciation, glad to hear i'm not the only one. :)
As for thread topic, it doesn't seem to have happened; but then again Jeph might do it, now that we're not expecting it. :)

Apparently, Pintsize will need his cump repaired. Marten may take him to Marigold for help with that...
