Title: Jon Mortisugu's new movie, "Pig Death Machine"!
Post by: ShreddingMyNotes on 13 Nov 2010, 15:37
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Jon Moritsugu or all his movies, but he's been one of my favorite filmmakers since I first learned of him.  He did Mod Fuck Explosion which is, as far as I can tell, one of the best movies ever and completely exemplifies Gen-X films.  He also did Scum Rock, starring Kyp Malone from TV On The Radio.  The trailer for his new film, Pig Death Machine just went up on Youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ClHrqSiHKo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ClHrqSiHKo)

There's a great interview with Moritsugu & his wife, Amy Davis, who stars in the film at http://theendofbeing.com/2010/10/16/pig-death-machine-jon-moritsugu-amy-davis-first-film-in-a-decade/ (http://theendofbeing.com/2010/10/16/pig-death-machine-jon-moritsugu-amy-davis-first-film-in-a-decade/) if you want to learn more about the production.

So, the logline as I've heard it is this:
A sexy and poor dumb-brunette (Amy Davis as COCOJOY) discovers that by eating tainted pork, she temporarily gains the amazing gifts of intellect, wisdom, and ultimately wealth. A lonely misanthrope and amateur plant scientist discovers that by eating the same pork, she is miraculously imbued with the power to communicate with her experimental plants. Both characters wholeheartedly embrace these disturbing changes while simultaneously struggling to find the obscure source of the strange meat.

You guys should check him out.  Moritsugu has a great sense of humor, and he's always put out some incredibly unique work.  I seriously can't wait for this film to come out! It's his first in like, seven years, and everything he's done has been amazing.

Wasn't that more or less the plot of a Futurama episode?

Yes, that's the episode Parasites Lost, the fourth broadcasted episode of Season 3.  It's also a notable episode in that it's the first and only appearance of the holophoner, which is an important plot device in the original series finale.  (That is, before the movies and the re-start of the series on Comedy Central.)

The holophoner was one of my favorite elements between Fry & Leela, for certain. I can guarantee that Moritsugu's movie will be a far cry in terms of plot & resolution from the Futurama episode.  I'm sure it's going to be a far more twisted, involved, & amazing story when all is said & done!
