A couple years ago I was planning to do* precisely what is depicted in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QrnwoO1-8A
Then I dug a little further and found that someone has already ported it to OSX:
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/11/11/kinect-running-on-os-x/
I totally need to do this. I don't even have an XBox, but I am definitely going to ask for Kinect for Christmas.
*incidentally, I don't mean that I'm bitter someone else did it before me. These videos are proving what was already pretty obvious to me, that other people had the exact same thoughts I did when they heard about this technology.

Someone hacked the Kinect into doing multi-touch stuff, like Minority Report.
I mean, EXACTLY like Minority Report.

That didn't take long

I did find this, which looks like what you're talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho6Yhz21BJI
Take a look at the various videos from jcl5m for his work hacking the Wii controller as well.

Every time people wet their pants over how cool the interface was in Minority Report, I have a chuckle because I once attended a lecture by Jaron Lanier, a VR pioneer and the technical consultant on that movie, where he explained how much that interface actually sucks and is a real pain to use and was chosen by the producer for the movie largely because a) it looks cool and b) it shows off Tom Cruise's face clearly. He told us that they put metal rods in Cruise's sleeves because you can't hold your arms perfectly still like that for long periods of time.

but joe
it's so fucking cool

And then you get people like Steve Jobs who see stuff like this and, without consulting ANYONE who might think about slapping the idiot over the head, decides that the whole FREAKING NEXT OPERATING SYSTEM is going to be going to touch oriented, forcing the user to flick and swipe at their screen to do work.
"Cool stuff" makes CEOs make really, really bad ergonomic design choices.

wait what
what in recent apple history has been a "really, really bad ergonomic design" choice. the last thing i can think of where i thought apple had lost it was the mighty mouse?

Uh, yeah. As someone who really dislikes Apple products, though more for their philosophy on proprietary hardware and software, even I think most of their stuff in recent years has been slick as hell in all physical aspects.
