Just released a game I'd developed a while ago, it's free to play.

Cool!
-
Very neat! 19,650 on first try, and it had just rolled to level 7 when I lost.
-
Your music off button doesn't work for me.
-
For me neither. I'm on chrome, so I'm not if that's the issue or not. Nice game, though.
-
that game is so fun. i am first on your leaderboard.
-
oops thanks for pointing out about the music button, I better fix that
EDIT: Just uploaded the fix to mochimedia's server, hopefully the new version gets pushed live quickly.

Yo, J-Hock, this game is mad addictive.
I have first place on the leader board, and it's pretty far ahead of second place. I'd be proud, but for the fact I should really be looking for a job.

:/

It's a great game Joe, though I'm not a big fan of the sound effects that it makes
-
oh no no no no no no no
-
I think the bubbles are pointless
-
So good.
The bubbles let you go through the earlier levels a lot faster and you get more points for popping them so it rewards people who play faster. Although I guess it would work without them if you could flip blocks as they fall.
-
The bubbles let you go through the earlier levels a lot faster
This was the main reason I added the bubbles. I didn't have them at first, and the game was excruciatingly slow. I tried a number of approaches to moving things along, like having the game start half-filled and having multiple blocks come down at the same time. Then I tried stuff like having a "drop" button, but eventually I came up with bubbles so you could click directly on the block to drop it.
oh no no no no no no no
:?

The cheering sound effect is way too much, replacing it with a pleasant sound would work better, I think.
-
I was enjoying my first playthrough up until this happened
(http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/5251/90519362.jpg)
I couldn't click any of the bubbles away, it wasn't registering ones I'd flipped over and the text didn't disappear. This happened until I lost the game and it crashed.
-
Thanks for grabbing a screenshot, that'll help me track down what caused that bug.

Would it be possible to flip the blocks over as they fall or no?
-
I would not hate being able to do that
But this is a crazy addictive game, fun as hell
-
that was really fun. thanks!

I had a similar problem to Thomas Edison. Was going well until I somehow ended up with three bricks flipped over at once, I fixed that though by clicking over again. then it happened again and I couldn't pop bubbles this time - sceenshot

after the game finished I figured I'd try pausing and unpausing to see if that would fix it. it didn't. each time I clicked the pause button the game board that you start off seeing moved diagonally down and right within its little box thing. easier to explain with a second screenshot

Edit: also in terms of just asthetics and fun - possibly swap out either the blueberry or the eggplant - they're really similar colours which makes them easy to confuse. In a normal game of memory this might be a good thing, but with a fast paced game like this just becomes frustraiting. Maybe something like a green apple or an egg

Would it be possible to flip the blocks over as they fall or no?
I'm pretty sure I tried that before but it didn't really help. I mean, even if you can click blocks in midair you still have to wait for the first block to fall before you can match it. And then not only is it unlikely that the second block will match, but even if it does then you just have to wait for the third block to fall. The only way to give people something to do the moment the game starts is either start with the arena already half full (and that only delays the excruciating waits) or provide some mechanism to fast forward the blocks. I suppose an actual fast forward button might work too, but the bubbles seemed to make the most sense.

oh no no no no no no no
:?
i had a life i had to lead you bastard

Good stuff jhocking, I got 95 matches before I just got overwhelmed by the sheer number of blocks and ran out of time stops. The one problem I had was I didn't really understand the hierarchy of powerups. Sometimes it seemed I would get two matches and get the lightningbolt, other times it was a bomb, when usually that takes (at least from what I saw) 3 chained matches. Is it random or do you work up to better powerups. Or is it based on level, because I seemed to get nothing but screen freezes when I was overwhelmed on level 10? The game is solid though, and as an avid flash gamer, I would blow an afternoon or two playing it.
-
The powerups are mostly random, but as you noted freezes are more common later since later is when they are useful. I haven't actually looked at that code for a while but I think I set it so the freezes don't show up at all the first couple levels because they were just annoying for the first couple levels.
ADDITION: Thanks again edison and axerton for reporting those problems, that really helps. I made some adjustments to the code last night that hopefully fixes the problem, but I can't be sure they help since I'm not sure what caused the problems. All I could reason is that the issues were caused by accidentally getting 3 tiles flipped, so I put in code to check for too many tiles flipped and deal with that situation gracefully.

To make the game easier for people to share I turned it into a Facebook app, check it out!

OH GOD JOE WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CLICK ALL THESE THINGS
I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS
(the game is a lot of fun!)
-
Gameplay wise this is pretty great, visually the only nitpicky thing I can bring up is that the blocks could have a little more definition, or be maybe a pixel smaller so that they seem more visually distinct from one another. Also do you plan on rounding off the edges on the sides with the pictures on them? Before I started playing I was thinking of them more like mahjong tablets than things with blue rounded backs and a totally flat front, but maybe that's the way you're imagining them.
-
I hit a bit of a snag in my game; the mysterious empty bubble dropped its tile, then I flipped three tiles consecutively somehow (the fish was one of the first two), then I couldn't flip any others and the bubbles that fell subsequently were unpoppable.
The problem vanished while I was pasting the screenshot into Paint, so I found myself able to play again as the game warned of imminent danger.
Here's a screenshot. (http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/234/unflippable.jpg)
Also yes, the image name is meant to be a pun, since I was anything but.
-
drat I guess my attempted fix didn't work, I'll keep trying.
-
It is a wonderfully addictive game, though. :-D
-
alright I just updated with another attempted fix, let's see if it worked this time
OH GOD JOE WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CLICK ALL THESE THINGS
Coincidentally my next game will be a shooting gallery with every picture you've ever posted in the photo thread.

Hey yeah I'm getting that same fuck up.
