Who is she? Anyone know her first appearance or is this one?
Why so much hate?
-
She works at The Secret Bakery.
Her first appearance was here (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1845).
This is the first time we've heard her name, or that she know's Angus, or that Angus frequents The Secret Bakery for that matter.
We don't know that she is Angus's ex refered to here (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1363).
-
Padma.
Hm. Mom and Dad must have been Star Wars fans.
Nice name, though.
-
Although that would mean that they're of limited literacy skills and Padma is only 12.
Of course QC could be set in the future, in which case I've unwittingly been reading hipster sci-fi for years.
-
Padma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padma_(attribute)) not Padmé (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padm%C3%A9_Amidala)
-
Padma comes from the Sanskrit for Lotus, that some transliterate as Patma. I know a Patma (female) married to a Padman (male), the second name meaning Lotus-hued.
-
So, really, her parents were Harry Potter fans... not Star Wars. *mumblesStarwarsgeeksmumbles*
-
No, they're from Pittsburgh (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6TLYwelOPk)... (52 sec in)
-
What ever the source of her name, she's an overly agressive individual - how many of your friends would take a swing at each other when first introduced just because they work at different places?
-
My first thought was that Padma was an ex of Angus's, and Faye and her were fighting Scott Pilgrim style.
-
Maybe it's some kind of challenge-response authentication (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDhLXkRhg60) protocol.
It also parallels Marten's challenge to Angus before the date, but these two are actually skilled in hand to hand combat.
-
That does bring up a thought: what if Padma is originally from California?
-
What, another sister he never had?
-

Yeah, I got that vibe too.
-
I wonder if she has a twin?
-
PadmA - DorA
ReneE - FayE
-
nah....thats a bit to far fetched
-
Oh, okay then.
-
So.
I take it that miss "SOMEthing is on fire" is Renee.
This gets more and more intriguing every second.
...
Naaaaaahhhhhhh.
-
Judging by Padma's description, it would have to be so.
-
I'm waiting for the inevitable "Secret Bakery vs Coffee of Doom Gladiator Battle Royal"
Dora will be the sole survivor, triumphing over the bodies of baristas and unknowing patrons caught in the crossfire.
Bonus points if it is done a-la-WestSideStory. *fingersnap*
-
Now I wonder what weaponry The Secret Bakery has.
Mini pie tins that throw like ninja stars? Does the giant dough-kneader transform into a killbot? Armored oven mitts?
-
You can't have a battle like that without giant robots
-
The wiki lists the weapons at Coffee of Doom. The Secret Bakery would be hard-pressed to match them.
-
their in america arent they? a trip to the local gun store would suffice wouldnt it :) ?
-
No, no,
we're they're fighting for honor! Guns don't determine who the better warrior is...
just who has better aim!
-
Yeah, 'something on fire' must be renee.
-
PadmA - DorA
ReneE - FayE
I just came here to post exactly that :)
-
Whenever I hear Padma, I think of Top Chef and then I get hungry again. Kinda fitting since she works in a bakery. I'd laugh if Marten goes on a date with her just for the sheer bizarro world shenanigans.

3 weeks from now Marten will awaken from a drunken jam session with Sven covered in the Ladies of the Secret bakery wearing nothing but a pink Banana Hammock as an eyepatch and Jesse Ventura's socks.
Chances of actually happening: 0.0248%
Chances of Hilarity: Yes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitle3zaap0y7ym6o).
-
Bonus points to jeph if Jesse is there as well
-
Chances of Hilarity: oh great thanks now i get sucked into the evil tvtropes vortex again :psyduck: (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ptitle3zaap0y7ym6o).

Padma.
Hm. Mom and Dad must have been Star Wars fans.
Nice name, though.
That'd either mean that she's only 4-9 years old (depending on how comic time has passed relative to the real world) and was given a massive dose of growth hormones for her to reach adulthood within a few years, or one or both of her parents somehow gained access to the prequel scripts that George had locked away somewhere before he dusted them off to start making the prequels.
Not to go off-topic, but it just bugs me that he had the prequel scripts written years, if not decades, before starting production of the prequels, yet they turned out...well...less than par with the originals.
-
Frankly that's because the 'original' scripts weren't written or directed by George Lucas; they were nominally his idea but the people who actually funded the production insisted on having someone competent come in and fix them. Then screwed the pooch by giving Lucas the exclusive merchandising rights, which he leveraged to buy the other rights and fund his prequels meaning there was no-one to tell him "no George, that's a dumb idea."
-
The prequels weren't that bad. Easily better than 8 out of 10 movies released in the same year as them. Problems came from Jar Jar and Hayden's lack of charisma and lack of chemistry with Natalie Portman. Although once Anakin started going dark, Hayden's acting improved.

Padma is not Angus's ex. That honor goes to Renee
