I didn't see a thread like this anywhere, so I thought it might be best to start one. We all know life sucks and then you die, but every so often, something positive happens to make your day. It doesn't have to be huge, but this is for those random happy moments you get when you're just minding your own business.
So, going first: today, my goddaughter had her first day of preschool. I've been spazzing out about it all day, since it's an environment she's never been in, I don't know how those brats were raised, and I kept worrying if they were going to pick on her or be mean to her, or if anything was going to happen.
Having spent the entire working day stressing, my goddaughter called me after preschool, and told me she was home, and she learned her ABCs in English perfectly up to S (Spanish is her first language, she's already counting, numbers, and alphabet in Spanish), made 2 little friends, misses me and is happy to hear my voice, and promises to call me every day so I don't worry. She's all of three years old. ♥ x 10000!

Han's tattoo made me happy yesterday. At the start I was worried, because the initial drawing the guy did didn't look too good. But we asked him to change it up a little and it looked awesome, and the resulting tattoo looks awesome and she's really pumped about it, so that makes me pretty happy.

i shared with a friend today that i was planning on spending money on a nice, proper mattress this year and how i was kind of stressed by how much it would cost and how little i know about making such a purchase and she informed me that she just moved in with her boyfriend and now has absolutely no use for her super expensive, super nice mattress (his is better) so she is offering to give it to me, for free. this is so insanely generous i don't even know what to think. i am going to try to convince her to take some kind of payment for it because apparently she paid a LOT of money for this thing but she insisted she really just wants it gone asap so i guess we'll see how this goes.
either way i am getting a free mattress! a really nice one! i have been really exceptionally nice to strangers lately despite my life being horrible so i'm gonna attribute this to a karma thing despite the fact that i don't really believe in karma at all. so uh i guess whether or not you believe in karma, sometimes it pays off! life's okay.

So after shitting myself about finding a house next year I managed to find one, with a guy from one of my classes, just down the road, perfect. The day before I'd went out for some beers with a buddy of mine who just sprung it upon me that he played the drums and his housemate was a singer. he's probably experiencing like a stratospheric pink cloud effect atm, especially when you hear him talk about addiction. it's weird to draw parallels (and predictable since i talk about dfw ALL THE TIME these days) but i can't stop thinking about infinite jest, where like a lot of his behaviour is stuff that don gately talks about as being a predictor of imminent relapse – like how he can't stop talking about AA's failure rates and about how he doesn't do any of that "loser" stuff like count days and how everyone in AA is miserable and he ain't miserable man he's riding high on life. those are like serious indicators of someone whose attitude will eventually lapse into "i don't even need to be off drugs."

The weather lately is making me happy. Autumn has finally started to kick in, so the evenings have started cooling down. The days are still getting hot, but there isn't that oppressive heat weighing on you from the moment you wake up, and the morning have been so beautifully crisp and refreshing. It is amazing how much difference the cooler mornings make. It also means that hopefully the days cool down enough to let me wear my coats and scarves and tights and jumpers and all the clothes I love without running the risk of overheating terribly.
Also, i can have cups of tea again! And snuggle!

I think this is one of those cases in which Gawker takes something really marginal on the internet and makes it seem bigger than it is. Like, anybody with half a lick of sense would get that, while being paid $2 million dollars a week for doing practically nothing would be great, being an erratic and hopeless addict such as Charlie Sheen would lose its luster very, very quickly.
If anything is questionable it's the morbid fascination the public has with him now that they're just waiting for him to fall back down to the ground and relapse so they can stop laughing and start clucking their tongues many, many years after the point at which doing so would have made sense.
Craig Ferguson got sick of it and has vowed to stop telling jokes about it, like he did with the late night wars and Britney Spears (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bbaRyDLMvA) (which is a great little speech) before. Good on him, I guess.

Current events: a delegate from my county is a co-sponsor of the marriage equality bill in Maryland.
