I've run some searches and plowed through the Archives.
Any ideas what the name of the pink blob 'cat' Marten and Fay had in thier apartment for a while?
Last I remember was the thing oozing from a vent over Marten's shoulder.
Any idea which posting numbers the cat was in?
Thanks

...are you sure that was QC? Because it sounds more like you're describing ChooChooBear from Something Positive.
-
Choo-Choo Bear has crossed over to another comic, but not I believe to QC.
-
Neither my memory nor my search-fu remembers anything resembling a "pink blob cat". I don't know the other comic "ChooChoo Bear", so that isn't much help, either.
-
Choo Choo Bear is one of the "cast" members over on Something*Positive. He has appeared over on Girls with Slingshots, as the father of Hazel's cat Sprinkle's kittens.
The only time Choo Choo Bear has appeared in QC has been during some of the guest strips Randy Milholland has done for Jeph.
-
He recently appeared as "Garlic Bread Kitty" in Randy's last guest strip for QC.
EDIT: Randy's only done three guest strips for QC:
- 936 (Pintsize messes with Faye's dreams)
- 1715 (Yelling Bird and Rippy the Razor at ComiCon)
- 1875 (Marten and Dora's "reunion" for the "Ultimate Misery Climax")
The last one is the only one where CCB has ever appeared in this comic. So, methinks you have the wrong comic in mind.
-
I don't know of this pink blob cat thing either, but it doesn't ring any bells in QC. I'd have to think others are right in suggesting that it's not the right webcomic.
Also this thread makes me think of something... as I'm sure people other than me have noticed, the QC transcripts on OhNoRobot are incomplete at best, and with the better part of 2000 comics floating around, occasionally finding a specific comic that you're looking for can be quite a challenge.
Perhaps this thread could be stickied or something? So that folks who are looking for something specific in the archives have a convenient go-to thread if they need help.
Just a suggestion.

Thanks, friends.
It is tough to find something that doesn't exist.
Since I binged on 1870+ archive entries (plus Jeph's suggestions) in two weeks, I'm pretty sure something got muddled.
Yes, Choo Choo Bear resembles what I recall.
So, I'll dig through Something Positive now.
Thanks again!

S*P's archives are much harder to reference than QC, but I remember the comic you're talking about, it was one of the first that intimated Choo-Choo Bear's oddly plastic powers. He snuck out and murdered a neighbor (the guy who dressed as Jesus), and was sneaking back into Davan's through an air duct.
Good luck finding that one...
As for archives, jwhouk's lists help a lot, but can be hard to search since they only include snippets of dialogues and summaries. Jeph has mentioned that he's having transcriptions done, but I get the feeling that's a stalled project.
Ohnorobot allows the public to do transcriptions - maybe we (as a collective group) could work on increasing the archives?
-
I looked for a way to transcribe comics without a link from the comic's page, and didn't find one. If you know how to do it, we could get started!
The Awesome Jwhouk List is at http://www.scribd.com/doc/32349451/Questionable-Content-Strip-by-Strip, and his cast list (every character that's ever appeared, even once!) is at http://www.scribd.com/doc/33337410/Questionable-Content-Complete-Cast-List.
-
I forgot how that worked - it needs Jeph to participate, he has to approve transcriptions. That's probably why he gave up on it.
Maybe something can be done through the wiki? Create a searchable subdirectory of transcription files that follow a certan format (like ohnorobot's)?
Of course, someone would have to monitor them, and that sounds like a full time job...
-
Jeph said at ECCC that the paid transcription project was near completion, and he was noncommittal but positive about making the results available to the public.
-
I somewhat intentionally wasn't descriptive with the earlier strips, something I've been trying to get back to in the later ones. Of course, Jeph's style wasn't as wordy as it is now.
As you can probably tell, I'm not as comfortable with some words used in the comics (the seven words of Carlin fame, in particular). I just believe that curses and swear words aren't necessary in conversation.
I'd also bet that as you archive-binged, you saw a link in one of Jeph's news posts about Randy's comic, and clicked on it. It happens to us all at times.

I'm pretty sure that is what happened. Somehow it was Marten and Faye dropping Choo Choo Bear out the window. But only in my own mind.

Maybe not necessary, but not useless either.

FOUND IT.
Something Positive January 14, 2002 Choo Choo Bear is introduced.
And his elastic properties are explained. No fur, 25 years old and on chemotherapy.
"You get used to that"
-
Don't forget the bone disease that makes him "extra huggable."
-
Marten : Davan :: Faye : Aubrey :: Housecat : Jaguar!
I just finished my first complete read-thru of the Something*Positive archive this morning, if you think the characters in QC are angsty, S*P will knock your socks off!
-
You want angst?
I found Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal http://www.smbc-comics.com/ (http://www.smbc-comics.com/).
Its The Far Side on steroids!
-
I'd like to second the SMBC endorsement. Also, their weekly videos are often hilarious.
-
The Strip-by-strip archive (http://www.scribd.com/doc/36637181/QCSxS) has been UPDATED! Yay!
-
Check it out if you haven't seen it! If you can think of a memorable bit of dialog to search for, chances are really good you can find it.
