Everyone should be watching this. The second season has taken a number of brilliant turns, chief amongst them is the increased focus on Harlan County, U.S.A. as Coal country.
-
It is reliably good, and downright excellent whenever it involves Walton Goggins (who plays Boyd Crowder)
-
Yeah, Goggins fucking owns. And Tim Olyphant has a sense of humor. After watching Deadwood, who knew?
The show's definitely good, and even its standalone bits are above average. I do think that they need to figure out what to do with Tim and Rachel though (who are ostensibly part of the starring cast). They're just kind of...there, most of the time, although the show has been doing a better job of utilizing them this season.
-
Those actors didn't have full-season contracts for the first, which explains it a bit. The other part of it is that as characters they lack the flavor of the locals.
-
I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I do enjoy this show. Between this, Archer, and Sons of Anarchy, FX is the shit. (And what with Mad Men being delayed, it's rivaling AMC).
-
Ah man, this episode just hit the peak of the roller coaster. We're on our way down next week.
(Not quality wise, things-are-gonna-get-bloody wise)
-
As soon as i get to thinking that Mags isn't so bad, she goes and treats Coover like shit in the worst possible ways. Martindale is killing it.
-
Yeah, last night's episode(Brother's Keeper) was definitely the best episode so far in the show's run. I'm SO relieved that the show's already been renewed for a third season!
-
Wow, shit just got even crazier this week. Anyone still watching?
-
Hells yes, either we get an unofficial 2-parter or the writers find another way to make this thing any bloodier. The show has never really dicked us around, much, so I'm pretty sure that Helen is dead or critically wounded.
-
Well, Johnny Crowder looked pretty fucked with that gutshot, but he made it. Wynne Duffy was supposed to die in S1 but they decided to bring him back (likewise, he was supposedly supposed to get shot in this episode but they changed the script on set) But this particular incident is much more momentous, plotwise.
One thing I will say, I don't think they pulled off Boyd's change of heart very well at all.
-
I think the Justified writers have the requisite stones to go through with the death. If it's a fakeout, I'll be annoyed, although I do enjoy her as a (living) character.
KvP—I can see why you might say that, but I think Boyd's arc actually makes a lot of sense. He tries to redeem himself, but he's a career criminal (along with the rest of his family). And not only is he REALLY FUCKING GOOD at being a criminal, but even when he does try to give honest work an honest shot, his shady past follows him around (no one trusts him still, and also see: everything about annoying mine-dude).
It's hard to escape what you are, even if you want to change.

Also, the "next time on" had them wheeling her body out, and the way they were talking, it's pretty clear she's dead, and that Arlo and Raylan are out for blood.
