Last week's WCDT (1946-1959) suggested August of 2012 as the time we'll finally see the party.
The dialog in today's (Monday 6/20) strip strongly suggests that it isn't Friday yet, since Marten says "Friday" not "Tonight".
My imaginary money has July 6, 2011 as the first strip that takes place at the party.
Unless we get side-tracked on Dora and Jim...
Any other guesses?

Let's see... I'm actually betting it'll be before next week.
I'll take June 27.

Just kidding. It'll be ages.

Something tells me it will somehow be involved with the SDCC guest week that Jeph does every year and is coming up in a few weeks.
Like the end of the date will be the cliffhanger or something.
-
We'll either have some of the party this week, maybe the last panel on Friday is Dora meeting Jim at the restaurant and then...... Guest Week!

:psyduck:
The party probably won't get nearly as much comic time as the date will. Which is unfortunate because I was kind of looking forward to Marten finally having something to do in the comic as opposed to the plot just happening to him. It's like every character has grown and changed except for Marten...

You grabbed the spirit of the thread with both hands....
And did the research too!
I love you, man!
[Bros....Bros.....Bros!]

The party should be going on now though:

If Dora can't go to the party because she has a date, and she is on the date now, thus the party should be imminent. Assuming it really is going to be a big deal and not just a non-starter.

It's all-well-and-good that, in the real world, two events can occur at the same time.
However, we are guessing when the other event will actually be presented to us (the audience).
Considering the relativistic properties of Time in a soap-opera comic strip, (nearly 8 years of production has been around 3 years for the characters) Our Stroryteller can give us a snippet of The Party. Show the entire shin-dig or we stay with Dora all of Friday night. Then Dora open's the shop Saturday morning with Faye, Raven, Hanners, et al all suffering from massive hangovers.....
This thread is simply about silly speculation of events we have no control over.
Have you ever read Heinline's The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress? Manny compare's the complaints of the prisoners to a bunch of kittens in a box. We are those kittens.
This is fictional bets on what we would like to see. What Mr. Jacques decides to do and when is totally up to him and we will enjoy every moment of it!

I have a similar situation at my workplace: it's called "confinement relativistic time dilation". You think something is taking longer than it should, simply because you have no way of knowing how much time has elapsed.

And it's complement: "Time Flies When You're Having Fun".

As you get older, you realize that time flies whether you're having fun or not.
It only creeps when you're waiting...

Creeps in the waiting room?

How was it Einstein tried to explain Relativity? (It may be anecdotal) Place your hand on a hot stove and a minute can seem like an hour. Be in the company of a beautiful woman and an hour can seem like a minute. My question is...why would you leave your hand on a hot stove for a minute? :psyduck:
-
I can't imagine Einstein would have explained it in such a pop-physics, mystical kind of way...
-
me thinks the answer is...
today!!

The world ends......hmmm, so which nutjob religion/prophet/loony do you wanna use?
-
Ok, the official appearance of the party is June 30, 2011.
All of those who selected that date may see the cashier to collect your winnings.
-
Oh, good. I'd forgotten what we were betting on!
