Title: That's one rich AI
Post by: jhndflpp on 09 Feb 2012, 13:08
Station's net worth in EC-Tec stock alone is apparently worth over 600 million USD.  Assuming he's smart enough not to put all his eggs in one basket, this non-corporeal entity is a multi-billionaire.

If Mark Zuckerberg wants to take my Facebook pics and show them off to everyone, he can feel free.
...of course, he's already doing whatever he wants with all our info anyway.

We have been beating this issue to death already since the strip went up over in the WCDT (Weekly Comic Discussion Thread).

Welcome to the forums, btw. Feel free to post a little "intro" to yourself over at the "Hi, I'm New" subforum.

Jeph just said on Tumblr that AIs own the bodies they inhabit.

Unless there are exceptions, that means that Station is the owner of the space station.

In which case he's even richer than we thought.

Unless his "body" is a plug-in control unit somewhere.

Speculating groundlessly, the ECT stock might have been given to him to settle ownership claims on the station hardware.

Unless his "body" is a plug-in control unit somewhere.

This might be the reason why Station is scared of Hannelore. She and (assumably) Dad are probably the only two who know exactly where his "control unit" is located.

And she may know how to reprogram him, too...  :-o

I've sometimes wondered if the rules on AI 'Ownership' might work similar to the rules regarding Shell Persons in Anne McCaffreys books - Especially for AI's like Spaceship and Station.
