Realm of the Mad God (http://www.realmofthemadgod.com)
This game is an online, top-down, almost bullet-hell, pixel-y shooter (called by it's creators the "first ever cooperative MMO bullet hell shooter"). It's a ton of fun, and it's free to play online (http://www.realmofthemadgod.com) and on Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/200210/).
I was recently introduced to this game through a youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUhb-LLQJwo) I enjoy. I really like the game (although the names I typically use for video games were taken or not allowed :/); I played for an hour and a half through 5 different classes and only stopped cause I needed dinner. I plan to return again tonight.
I just wanted to introduce it to anyone out there who's interested, and see if there's anyone who plays.

I've played through its kongregate listing. It's a little difficult to adjust to certain playstyles, and the grind can get kinda annoying, but it's rather fun when you get more than 5 people together who act like a proper party, though this usually only happens with trains and the castle warp. I've gotten a lvl 20 rogue and cleric, but I need to max the warrior and archer before I can start using 2nd tier.

What I do for leveling is teleport to a large group of people and try not to die. Usually goes pretty well and you can hit high levels pretty quickly.
-
Yeah, but I have a tendency of joining servers that are wiping gods pretty quickly, so what seems like a train forming team may actually be 20 people taking on a cube god. I suddenly go from Galaga to Touhou in a few horrified seconds.

Hm I've never actually played Touhou but it doesn't seem that bad. My first Mad God encounter was with a level 10 or so rogue and I didn't end up dying. You tend to soak up a lot of xp even staying behind the group.
-
You end up tunnel-visioning after maybe 10 seconds, and you are always aware of exactly where the bomb button is. It's even designed for that, there's an indicator at the bottom that just says "enemy", so you don't have to look up to see where the boss is.
My problem is that level 20s who know what's going on will swarm an opponent, so there's really no place to actually "hang back" that's safe in any way possible. I usually have to find a rock or circle-strafe for those horrible 10 seconds before the teleport recharges and I can flee somewhere.

Welp, Killed Oryx at level 17 as a priest.

Are there any vendors that buy stuff? I really don't want to register and buy gold.
-
I would not suggest paying real money for ingame gold. I'm against microtransactions in general (altho, how's a free to play game supposed to make money?). I just feel it's kind of for suckers.
If you feel like you're not doing too well with the starter equipment, just stay on the beach for longer until you're slightly higher level and have slightly better gear. Or, if you are in groups with higher level people, sometimes they'll just drop upgrades for you. The thing with microtransactions for items in this game is that there's permadeath, so once you die your items are gone for good. It's just really not worth it imo.
If you play enough you get fame, which is also used in the stores to buy other things. You can always work on living for a long time and killing a lot of things to get a lot of fame to spend. Then you can buy certain things without spending real money.
-
No no, I mean, is there a vendor somewhere I can walk up to, open an inventory menu, and sell excess items I've picked up for gold?
-
No. If you don't want something, you drop it. In theory you can also trade it with someone, but good luck getting someone to stand still long enough to reach an agreement.
-
So... that means gold is only available from buying it with real money?

Just got my first dude to level 20, got him murdered by the mad god himself. This game is great.
