Title: QC character in reallife
Post by: suizo on 10 May 2012, 03:46
Hi there

A few weeks ago I saw some girl, which looked like Marigold... I was to ashamed to ask here to take a picture... and it'd be a bit creepy to ask:
"hey there, you now qc, you like exactly like a nerdy character in there. May I take a picture?" ;-)

Today I found this picture and it really looks like her (or I'm wrong?)

have you had the same experience... please post your pictures :)

cheers B

Haven't quite met anyone random like that, but Hanners looks a bit like my mom did back when she was younger, the short blonde hair and OCD tendicies remind me of her alot.  Also has a few qualities of my GF as well...I like my chicks crazy I guess.  :psyduck:

I was in line at a con near someone who looked like Marigold, but I was afraid to mention it in case she wasn't a cosplayer.

I would've if she had the sweat pants and XDCD or Yaoi Zone shirt

Too stereotypical.  It was a con, remember?

Used to work with a young lady who makes me think of what Hanners would be like in about 10 more years.

I see Marigolds in my classes.  Having the residence hall attached to the academic building brings them out in PJ's, tee shirts and slippers.

And that's my sfternoon class...

That is moreover college in general. I don't think i have had a single class, regardless of time of day, that did not have at least one woman show up in PJ's and slippers.

At the college I went to, you could tell who lived in the dorm that adjoined the classroom buildings by who wore PJs and slippers when it was below zero outside.

Just the women?

Although, in my college days, you could tell the freshman women from the seniors: Frosh dressed to the nines for class, at least during their first semester, and the seniors could be identified by ratty sweats.

Guys headed straight to ratty jeans and sweats as fast as they could, usually before Mom's and Dad's car had made it off campus.

Men don't tend to wear PJ's. We tend to wake up grab a shirt and pants (whichever is on top in the dresser/ front of closet) and go.

I thought I saw a Winslow today.

Just an iPad. First-generation model at that.

I'm pretty sure this young woman has come up before on here as reminding some people of Faye, especiaoly if you imagine her with the appropriate glasses.

really wish these school computers wouldn't be so fickle on their web filters...no deviant art, or tumblr, but I can get QC, Fark & TMZ, go figure.

Honestly I feel though if I met a person like Faye, I'd want to punch her in the face.  I'm not a fan of those "I'm a bitch and proud" attitudes (male or female)

I question if "I'm a bitch and proud" motivates Faye. I'd like her. I think I'm attracted to women with issues.

So am I, nothing I like more than a crazy chick, but she's "crazy" only as a self defense mechanism.

Beyond the issues, though, is a personality.  Some of her personality development was affected by her issues, but even putting her problems (and recent improvement) aside, there's definitely a strong, I-don't-give-a-fuck-what-the-world-thinks attitude that has caused Faye to become the person she is.

Some people are attracte to that (Angus, for example).  Others are put off by the resulting personality traits.  It's all a matter of taste...

The way some people eat broccoli because it's good for you, others eat it because they like the taste, and some won't go near it.

Yes, I just compared Faye to broccoli.  Deal with it.  I have to.

nom nom Faybe veggies nom nom

She has had her horrible issues no one can blame her for, but I just don't find it an excuse to be a bitch, I'm just one of those that doesn't like 'punchy' people.   Sometimes it's endearing, sometimes I just wanna pop her.  Angus is the kind of guy that thrives on confrontation so I can see why they finally get along after he finally broke her will.

I am sometimes quite punchy, and I don't like it about myself because I'm a total wuss about being treated that way myself. I want to stop being like that, I sometimes suspect Faye does too.

Even the Pugnacious Peach eventually realized that the Hemingway thing was just mean.

Faye is growing up -- the most, I think, of all the QC characters. She has her issues, knows where they come from for the most part, deals with them as she can,  and in her own way, helps others. Or at least she bullied Dora into seeking help. She has made efforts to expand her horizons with her art. She is the first of the major characters to showan interest in a child as a person. Additionally, she is in a relationship that requires work to maintain and for the most part does her share of that work. Even early on, she has recognized shortcomings in herself and tried to overcome them -- particularly, the day she and M. Checked out the new apartment, her disgust with herself over her treatment of Raven and her mostly successful attempt to make amends for it.
Some of the less forgiving forumites see Faye's failings as a reason to hate (a real person like) her in perpetuity. Whatever. I admit the 20-something version of me would have probably disliked a Faye, particularly if she made me her punch bag. The 47  year old version of me, I hope, would at least try to understand where she's coming from: I might even like her.
One more time I'll mention the difference between "liking" a character and appreciating how she's depicted. Faye is depicted very well and is used by Jeph as a vehicle for depicting personal development. He himself has said he probably wouldn't like Faye in real life, but he gives her some of the best scenes in that regard.

Oh I'm not saying that Faye is a bad character, or hasn't evolved.  She's gone through more changes than the rest (other than the perpetually absent Raven, which is a whole nother conversation is "nother even a word?" O.o damn southern dialects) and it wouldn't be QC without her. But I find that outside her circle of friends, every one else is fair game for her snears, scorns, and attitude. A personality trait I find rather unattractive and undesirable in a person.  But she is pixels, so it's not like I'm wringing my hands over a hatred of her.

Yeah, I'm gonna go back and fix that. Damn phone's idea of autocorrect is to insert words in no pattern I can yet detect.

LATER: OK, now it looks like the words that were in my head.

I know of a few guys I hung out with in high school who would be perfect as Steve, complete with love of alcohol and relationship skills.  And good Lord, the times that he was giving advice to Marten, sounded a lot like the shit they would tell me.

Hmm, a reallife Hanners. *getting dreamy eyes*

Cosette and Raven would be cool, too.

I think I know a Tai-like person, but she's not lesbian.
