Another week, and another birthday for the US of A (Don't look a day over 230)!
-
It looks like he's going to be able to draw that comic after all.
-
One of the joys of Twitter is that you can follow along about your favorite comic artist's creative process:
Jeph Jacuqes @jephjacques
Oh god it's going to be one of Those Nights. Please bear with me as I bash my head against the keyboard.
Curtis @rhinosaur
@jephjacques Faye: AJDNHEGEI BEN EVGNEBEU GEBRB Hanners: ENCJANT REJCHS EICHE DIVHE Martin *Obscure indie band joke*
-
That question about the phrase "temporary visa" makes me wonder if Jeph's going in an unexpected direction.
-
It looks like he's going to be able to draw that comic after all.
Shoulda read the thread before I voted. I went with guest strips.
-
creative process:
nervous breakdown
:-\
My, my. What an excellent comic, Mr. Jaques. I quite enjoyed it!
-
I knew that Tai using Marten's deodorant would freak Dora out!
-
Faye is the one to smooth things over in an awkward situation??
I dimly remember her doing something similar once recently.
Impressive personal growth, Pugnacious Peach.
-
When in doubt, Hanners.
Or Raven.
TOMORROW IS STRIP #2222 !!! JEPH ARE YOU ALREADY A MILLIONAIRE ?
-
I knew that Tai using Marten's deodorant would freak Dora out!
Dora just questioned it, quite calmly too (either therapy seems to be working, or she just knows Tai). Tai's more freaked out if anything else (Dora's proximity notwithstanding).
-
If I ran a prospering business I´d be quite calm too.
Seriously: Yay for Dora!
-
As Jeph pointed out in his Twitter, Tai does look cute in this strip. Unlike Naked Mole Rats which are slightly terrifying (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/02/Nacktmull.jpg).
-
shurrrrrt
Yes, why is Tai walking into the room buttoning her shirt?
-

Yeah, for some reason they always make me think of the Sumatran rat monkey from Braindead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braindead_%28film%29).
-
shurrrrrt
Yes, why is Tai walking into the room buttoning her shirt?
Because after Dora's arrival she made an excuse to pop out to borrow Marten's deodorant (ref 2218 (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2218)).
-
Does anyone know if jeph is still using the same e-mailaddress? His Contact page still mentions 'what kinds of alcohol I like to drink' so it hasn't been updated in a while. Still jephco at mac dot com?
-
...I thought Apple was closing out the Mac-dot-com e-mail addresses?
-
Whelp. The gangs all together and there's wine to drink. If history is any indicator, at some point in the evening Tai's pants will be coming off...
And will be going in the dishwasher.
-
You have a good point. She's not even drunk and she's already cuddling up to Dora.
The best indicator for shenanigans will be if Tai passes out again.
-
jw: Suggestion for the next poll: what kind of deodorant does Marten (and Faye (and Tai)) use?
-
Oh, yeah, and some suggested options:
- Double Secret: Strong enough for an indie boy, used by his female roomie
- Mennen and Womennen Not-so-Speed Stick
- Dunno. It's either something Faye bought or Dora left behind.
- ... actually, it's canned air for cleaning Pintsize.
- Pssshhhht! (You've probably never heard of it).
- Whatever's on sale at the dollar store.
- Febreze
-
Fun fact that most people who've browsed imdb knows: The groundhog who carries news to Mufasa early in the movie Lion King was originally supposed to be a naked mole rat. It looked too much like a penis when it popped out of the ground, though, so they had to scrap that idea.
-

Dora's expression in panel 1 is great.

It's been quite awhile since we've seen her so happy and relaxed :-)

Wonder if she already had a glass before.
@jwhouk: Thanks for being a sport with the poll.
-
But will wearing Martens Deodorant revive pleasant memories for Dora
Or not.
-
@jwhouk: Thanks for being a sport with the poll.
Indeed

...I thought Apple was closing out the Mac-dot-com e-mail addresses?
Funny story; Alan Miller, one of the guys behind the Atari 2600 stopped in today at the museum I part-time in, and it turns out he has a mac-dot-com address. Hopefully it doesn't close down, because it would sure be a loss of a historical figurehead in my line of work!

good old naked mole rat-cam.
the little guys seem to be sleeping, though.
edit: nope, there goes one :D
-
Wait, where is Faye's Pizza in the last panel? I don't recall their being a coffee table in the apartment......
-
Obviously, being the janitor pays more.... :-P
-
Or has more prestige.
-
Wait, where is Faye's Pizza in the last panel? I don't recall their being a coffee table in the apartment......
There probably is one, even if we haven't seen it. We've never seen the TV, even though the gang has watched it in a couple of strips and has played video games on it in a few others. It's been awhile since we've seen them do either.
Or has more prestige.
It could be a case of allowing him to mingle more freely. Plus, janitors can pretty much go anywhere they want without question and without being bothered. Especially if they're carrying a florecent light bulb. It's the janitorial equivilent of carrrying a clipboard and looking worried.
-
I haven't even met Old Gus, and already I like him.
I wonder if he's anything like the covert supergeniuses in one of my favorite science fiction stories. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Black_Bag)

YES.
Also, I'm back (after my much shorter than expected absence). I missed you all terribly, especially you (you know who you are).

I've found the one place carrying a clipboard and looking worried doesn't help is a casino. Maybe I should have tried a florescent light bulb.

Just be sure you're wearing the right clothes. Florecent bulb and coveralls; good. Florecent bulb and three piece suit; bad.

Well, dammit. I hate humble pie. On the other hand I got to relive the introducton of Marigold and Momo , Awkward Zone Defeated and a few other key moments. I realize I like some of the experiments Jeph was doing with expressions around the 1400s.
-
And Friday will end on a cliffhanger as Yomiko Readman walks in

I remember people setting off fireworks in the street... behind me... while I was in Springfield... at two in the morning.
Suffice to say, fireworks were not my first thought.

Wait, so Americans are only free one day a year? Aww, you guys, that's so sad for you. Welp, happy freedom day anyway.

Wait, so Americans are only free one day a year? Aww, you guys, that's so sad for you. Welp, happy freedom day anyway.
The other 364 days are actually Orwellian Police State Funfests. But you didn't hear anything, you didn't see nothing, and you said nothing.
-
Ok, I reverse my prediction. Tai and Dora will hook up, but because of SDCC guest strip week and the phenomenon I've heard lovingly referred to as "Nerd Flu", it's going to take forever for the story arc to actually get to that point. :P
-
And somewhere, Yelling Bird's cloaca is getting singed...

Uh-hu.
"Freedom".
In a society that only has millionaires for politicians.
Yeah, right.
-
Heh.
Best way to tell something isn't right in your political system? People spend more time and money on getting a particular position than they could possibly hope to get back based on the post's stated salary and compensations.
-
Let's not get political here (rules! (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,27423.msg1056736.html#msg1056736)); if you have a specific point to discuss, go to find or make a thread in the Discuss! (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/board,16.0.html) forum which is intended for such things.
Americans! - enjoy your anniversary day in the same spirit that we are the UK are enjoying our Queen's diamond jubilee!
-
Poll maker forgot either "Waffles." or "Spathe Ham." as options. Because either could be used as an antiperspirant.
-
Heh.

This seems like pretty faulty logic. Would you prefer people run for political office just for the salary/benefits?
-
Oh you Americans (>^-^)>
I´m glad we´re done with the flag-waving here. At least for now.
-
I just wanted to say that Momo's look of wide eyed excitement over the sparkler matched that of my son three days ago on Canada Day.
-
Faye, Faye, Faye ...
NEVER turn your back on a boy with a bottle rocket.
(Or, I'm guessing, a juvenile-delinquent-AnPC with two sparklers, either).
-
I'm going to have to go with our resident Weird Al Fan here: He's gonna cliff-hanger us with Taidora.
...And poor Paul and company are going to have to break out the UBMEOD's - and banhammers.
-
Why thank you. :D
For some reason I read that acronym as UBERMODs every time. Which is sort of accurate, I guess, given that their general purpose is to restore order to the thread and make epically awesome posts which are hard-hitting yet sensible.
Or maybe Tergon's just always like that, I don't know. Haven't seen him in a while.
I like to think that Yelling Bird and "Friends" live in the same general area as the QC cast, so somewhere in that same park, Yelling Bird is shooting a gun at another gun.
-
And somewhere, Yelling Bird's cloaca is getting singed...
Oh Yelling Bird, what won't you put there?
-
...He's gonna cliff-hanger us with Taidora.
...And poor Paul and company...
There's plenty of canon which makes this particular pairing a possibility, even if only temporary or casual. But I really don't like the portmanteau terminology - it gives quite the wrong impression, and raises my hackles even when there's no other reason to object :-P.
-

It's still better than the other portmanteau possibility: Tora. :psyduck:
-
Question of the week: How is Pintsize holding sparklers when he has no digits?
-
Maybe they're taped on? Scotch tape is pretty had to see when it's applied...
-
Magnets
-
After looking at the Wikipedia article for Sparkler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparkler) to find out what metal they're made out of (i.e. if they're magnetic), I found out what Pintsize has planned for his sparklers:
Sparkler bombs are constructed by binding together as many as 300 sparklers with tape, leaving one extended to use as a fuse. In 2008 three deaths were attributed to the devices,[4] which can be ignited accidentally by heat or friction. Because they usually contain more than 50 milligrams of the same explosive powder found in firecrackers, they are illegal under U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) regulations.[4]
-
Question of the week: How is Pintsize holding sparklers when he has no digits?
How does he hold on to anything? Although it was established early on he can turn his extremities into suction cups, and, with the right software corruption, giant thumbs.
-
Question of the week: How is Pintsize holding sparklers when he has no digits?
He managed to download an app for wang-limbs. (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1500)
-
am i the only one who stared at this strip for a bit, thinking there were going to be animated fireworks in the sky?
-
Yes, you were.
-
It's still better than the other portmanteau possibility: Tora. :psyduck:
There is something tigerish about Tora...
-

Well, it can't be cougarish.
-
Question of the week: How is Pintsize holding sparklers when he has no digits?
His A.I. design was inspired by The Powerpuff Girls.
-
So - who's gonna ask the boss about it?
-
Just noticed something, doing an archive trawl - y'all believe it's been nearly a thousand strips since we've seen Jimbo?
-
It would be interesting to know what he's working on now.
-
Y'know, todays comic reminds me of how most pornos start out....only with girls.
-
...He's gonna cliff-hanger us with Taidora.
...And poor Paul and company...

Taira (pronounced Tyra).
And @cesariojpn, I like how your post implies that there is no porn "only with girls" :D
-
One could combine the ideas from cesariojpn's post and Is it cold in here?'s post... (I seem to remember a guest comic in which Jimbo writes romances for the various QC characters)
-
It appears as if Marten is actually pretty cool about the prospect of Tora! Tora! Tora!.
-
Pretty sure I am quitting QC if I have to deal with 100 strips of Tora. My call though is that she puts herself out there and then Dora lets her down, but in a gentle sort of way.
-
I'd bet dicks jokes to butts that by next friday Tai and Dora will have had a make-out session.
-
Aww, I was hoping for drunken shenanigans :(
-
I'll take that bet. I just can't see Dora being up for it, especially since she's still mostly sober.
-
All I get from watching Tai chase after Dora is a big dose of embarrassment squick, with a side of "No, just... no."
-
Excellent save Tai.
-
Second to last panel looks like Marten is actually rooting for Tai. Dude is over EVERYTHING or what? °O
-
Welcome, new people!
I forecast awkwardness. It's a pretty safe bet in general.
Jimbo gets creepy with the characters (http://questionablecontent.net./view.php?comic=197).
-
Taidora, Tora, Taira...they're all far better and less ill-boding than Dai. :psyduck:
-
I agree with Faye, that WAS a nice save.
The caveat: I've been in a situation where I'm trying to hang out with people for as long as possible all too often before, and it NEVER goes well, even for non-romantic purposes. I can only imagine that with romantic purposes in mind, it's going to be just as disappointing for Tai, or outright disastrous as Tai gets more and more desperate.
And oh god I need a life. :psyduck:
-
ahem.. i would just like to say
Tai is IN THERE! ohhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
ahem.. or..
on top of.. er inbetweeen.. er somethin..
woot.
it's not hard, i just type that way. my apologies.
-
Dora doesn't seem that interested though. This may end in tears.
-
I predict a gentle let-down. Dora's still got quite a bit on her plate from her last therapy session (and the following knockout revelation (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2191) from her brother (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2192)), and will probably want to just concentrate on herself and her business for a bit.
Still have to admit that Tai's got game, though. She's demonstrated more ballsiness than I'll ever show (and I'm a guy! What the hell?).
-
It's still better than the other portmanteau possibility: Tora. :psyduck:
There is something tigerish about Tora...
I imagine that the code phrase for a threesome between them would be "Tora Tora Tora"...
-
It appears as if Marten is actually pretty cool about the prospect of Tora! Tora! Tora!.
Why shouldn't he be? It's a decent movie, well shot, the dialogue's not stilted and at the end we get a big payoff with all the explosions.

I thought that portmanteau names for a couple were either forbidden or strongly discouraged on this forum.
Tai is giving this her best shot, I salute her for that. I don't think Dora is in the least bit interested mind you. If it comes to Tai making a more direct move, I think she'll be gently but firmly shut down. As much as she wants this, I can't imagine it is part of what Jeph has in store for the future of the strip. I think maybe that Tai continuing to try might be a perpetual part of the background of the story though... every once in a while she'll take a run at Dora, and get equally gently rebuffed. Kinda like a running gag only less funny.
Of course, when I make predictions, Jeph does the opposite.
-
You made a prediction and then acknowledged the opposite would probably happen...which means the opposite of that (your original prediction) is probably what will happen.
-
Or will NEITHER happen, now that he's mentioned it?
-
Dora and Tai are in a constant state of both making out and not making out until they are observed. How appropriate.
Disclaimer: I don't really understand Schrödinger's Cat.
-
The waveform will either collapse or not collapse tomorrow morning (GMT).
-
I shall wear my Schroedinger's Cat tee-shirt (http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/unisex/sciencemath/6dff/?srp=3) in honour of the occasion; for best effect I will put it on before reading the comic.
-

Maybe I have a weird sense of humor, but I think that a version of that shirt that reads "Schroedinger is dead" would be funny (it wouldn't read "Schroedinger is not dead", because that overlap matrix element is zero).
-
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency by Douglas Adams contains a quite good explanation of Schroedinger's Cat, and it's a fantastic book to read besides.
-

It would be interesting to know what he's working on now.
A book titled 50 Shades of Pink.

And zombies.

You made a prediction and then acknowledged the opposite would probably happen...which means the opposite of that (your original prediction) is probably what will happen.
I did consider the potential paradox while I was posting. I can see two potential resolutions for this. Normally I don't make my predictions known to the forum, and Jeph still does more-or-less the opposite of what I expected. In my opinion that means that whether I state my prediction or not, he's still going to do something I wasn't expecting. That's the first (and I believe most likely) outcome.
The alternative is that now I've predicted two different things, he'll do something which is neither of them. Something really unexpected which I couldn't possibly have predicted. Something interesting and novel. Something really out of left field... which might of course turn out to be incredibly awesome and funny.
These outcomes as well as the ones I deem even less likely are all good. Sometimes I care too a little too much about the characters, and really want one thing or another to happen. That's not the case here. I'm quite happy to just enjoy the ride regardless of destination.
-
My current QC nightmare scenario (aka: oh I hope this doesn't happen scenario) is that Tai manages to plant one on Dora tomorrow. In the last scene. And then we have to wait through a week of guest strips.
-
Well, that's a comic which didn't do either what I predicted or the direct opposite.
-
Lol, who is Momo's friend?
And.. Luna from Sailor Moon? :D
-
You're a robot, you can't get cavities! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PODUNEIFOAQ)

Moar Nichijou :D
-
Lol, who is Momo's friend?

Nah. Adorable robot Nano (Nano Shinonome) and Sakamoto-san the cat from Nichijou (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nichijou). I named my laptop Nano-chan after my favorite character in that anime.
-
ohh, I see
I´m not into them japoneese cartoons.
-
This is a repeat of another filler-art, is it not? (Except this time with Momo's updated "body"?)
And it kinda scares me when Cristi is using the word "vascular"...
EDIT: Oop, never mind - he just posted something he had from his Tumblr a while back.

Man, our intrepid cartoonist (Is it okay to use that term? I don't wanna offend anyone!) can not catch a break. On second thought, wait a minute, artist with terrible luck, who suffers from depression AND is also a ginger?! Coincidence? :psyduck:
Yes, most assuredly.
-
I'm confused. Jeph's a ginger?
-
Holy crap it's Meiville! And a...clockwork anthro-PC?
-
This has been a weird couple of weeks and I am sorry about that. Hopefully things will return to normal after San Diego Comic Con. I am doing my best.
Hey, Jeph, no need to tell us you're doing your best. We know. I hope you didn't say that for some self-entitled jerkwad giving you grief about not putting up a comic because you put your life ahead of QC.
-
Lol, who is Momo's friend?
And.. Luna from Sailor Moon? :D
I don't know who the other character is, but the kitty is not Luna for sure.
Luna has a yellow crescent moon on her forehead, never wore a red scarf (yellow ribbon yes however) and Luna is much more round ish than triangular ish.
-
Um, does everyone post without even reading the few preceding posts? Here (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,28128.msg1092699.html#msg1092699) you will find the names of the characters, and a link to the Wikipedia article on them.
Reading a few other posts seems a fair exchange for expecting your own to be read!
-
I do echo the "dude can't catch a break" thing. And am just a tad concerned about Cristi.

Random Nichijou clip is random. And extremely weird. But very funny.
Now all I have to do is find a site where I can get Nichijou videos and my weekend is complete. (And no, YouTube does not count.)

I wanted to find the clip where she discovers the roll cake stored in her arm. Couldn't. This will have to do.

Ffffff, yes, this one is gold, and quintessential Nichijou.
I mostly wanted to find the original roll cake clip so I could embed the link in the quote "Why do I have to live life with a roll cake in my arm??!" and feel cool.
Anyone wondering if the show makes more sense than those clips: not really.

Now I only need to find out what roll-cake is :)

Aka "Ho-Ho's" in Hostess-speak.

Little Debbie Swiss cake rolls are my personal favorite variation.

'round here, roll cakes are bigger tha that. Those mini chocolate-covered rolls are OK, but here's a image to give you a idea of scale;

Just slice and serve!
So having one in your arm means it takes up most of your arm...

That looks a bit like Bolo de rolo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolo_de_rolo) (guava roll cake, popular in Brazil).
-
Well, it's a jelly roll. Most of the ones around here are creme filled.
-
For a savory variation, cream cheese rolled in a deli ham slice (or a bologna slice).

Random Nichijou clip is random. And extremely weird. But very funny.
Now all I have to do is find a site where I can get Nichijou videos and my weekend is complete. (And no, YouTube does not count.)
First episode. (http://www.crunchyroll.com/my-ordinary-life/episode-1-motivation-573100) (And links to the rest of the series.)

We always used buddig sliced turkey :3

No, no, no, the scale's all wrong. More like a short wheel of brie wrapped in an inch-thick steak...
Damn, that actually sounds good.

Sounds tasty. Maybe some romaine and roasted red pepper, for color?
Carl-E, doing that to a steak is just wrong.
