Title: Silly theory
Post by: SterDawg on 12 Jul 2012, 00:20
So, we all know Momo, right?
Everyone's favorite chibi AnthroPC-turned adorable human-sized AnthroPC?
I have a slight theory about her. Namely, that she will fall in love with Marten, or already has.
My evidence?

http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=439
On this page, Faye says "All we need is a cute girl who is also a robot who is also in love with Marten!"
hmmmm... cute girl... robot... in love with marten?

from approx 2006 to 2014, Marten and Momo are hanging out together, and Marten is compared to her father, or another authority figure...
like say... a teacher?
and it is a rather often employed japanese trope of having a crush on or falling in love with one's teacher
and what character in the comic is built entirely around japanese culture and tropes?

i guess that's only two pieces of evidence
but still
momo could totes have a crush on marten guys
think about it

I don't think Jeph planned THAT far ahead back in the 400's.

An amusing thought, though. °O

They're coworkers now, it'd be creepy.

I think Jeph was just ripping on Megatokyo.  By the way, is that comic still around?  I haven't read it in seven years or so...and even then I wasn't sure why I was reading it.

I don't think it's a matter of 'planning ahead' so much as planning with the past in mind.
Which is to say, I doubt that Faye said that BECAUSE approximately one thousand, six hundred comics later, such a character would be introduced, but rather, such a character may have been introduced because Faye said that.
Or, possibly, Jeph may not even have realized that.
And possibly, I've given him an idea.

I mean, the Vespavenger was foreshadowed in the early Amanda Whitaker arc.
Shrug.

Yes, it's silly.

It also pushes the boundaries of... well, at least it's not "Hannershipping", but still...

Marten/Momo? (shakes head) I don't think Idoru models are THAT advanced.

Its still around and kicking. I stopped reading as well and then picked it up later on again from the beginning.
Its much more coherent (and makes more sense) when you read it without the weeks of inactivity inbetween strips. °O

@jwhouk:
I think someone somewhere in the comic hinted at special models designed for "such a purpose" ... albeit Momo isn't one of those.

Speaking of planning ahead...

Marten/Momo?

Marmite.

Then again, Mar might not.

I still think the Questionables need an on-line pun jar that forwards real money from Questionable achievements to a Questionably good cause.

There is a link on the QC main page to donate to the Jeph Jacques Capital Depreciation Fund ...

You're right. I realize I've had this conversation before, in fact. I checked it out, made a $1 contribution, calling it a test of the QC pun jar.
Now I recall being talked out of it.

I don't think Jeph planned THAT far ahead back in the 400's.

I was under the impression that Jeph was going to wrap the story up at The Talk, at 500, but decided he wanted to keep doing the story.

Yes, he's certainly said something along those lines.

[edit]  It's in the afterword of the printed volume 2, if not elsewhere.

Or she could end up with Sven as per this comic (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1658)...

Welcome, new person!

It was not a mistake on your part, since there was no practical way to know, but as it happens strip 1658 once got so commonly cited that people began complaining about mentions of it.

Momo's "type" seems to be Sousuke (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1533).
