Yep. Instead of a solid week of them, the 5-day 'week' is split up by the weekend.

The tweetfeed at the side of the page suggests Jeph had a bad day at the comic con. And the flight back hardly ever seems to work well for him. It's not unreasonable to suppose we'll see some mutual aid from those who stayed behind for Comfy-Con.

The whole "pintsize is going to take over and rule humanity" gag was funnier before Jeph confirmed in comic that the sigularity has happened. The AIs have achived the point where they could rule humanity if they wanted to. They just have no interest in doing so. They just want to be part of society, hence Momo's concern over AI rights. Even Pintsize just wants to look at porn and have fun.

Maybe "making the signularity happen" is part of a bigger plan to lull humans into false security thinking that it wasn't so bad and the *REAL* signularity will come later?

All of this talk of destroying humanity has a foothold in the QC canon (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=805).  I'm not saying that QC is going to have a robot uprising in 2017, but I'm also not saying it isn't.

Not really. When Winslow riffs off of Pintsize talking about world domination, Pintsize's response indicates that it's not true ("Okay, now you're just creeping me out."). They've joked about world domination before, but I don't think that's really on the AI agenda.

I was just about to post something along the lines of: "Crikey, don't the guest comic strip writes just love Pintsize!"

I suppose it's because he's the easiest character to make one-off joke strips about.

But I have to say that the main reason I don't get tired of Pintsize is that Jeph doesn't overdo the Pintsize humour.

That's kind of gone out the window now. And now I'm tired of him.

Yeah, I know. Gripe moan whinge blah blah blah. First world problems. Et cetera. I'm over it. Just had to get it off my chest.

Edit: having got over my initial reaction, I probably would have enjoyed the comic a lot more had it appeared earlier. It's probably the best of the recent guest strips.

You ever get the sense that the Walkyverse is just one big circlejerk of successful webcomic writers with twisted senses of humor? I mean, Dave alone is a sick pupply, but add Randy, Jeph, Danielle, and the rest of 'em into it, it just gets very silly. So silly Graham Chapman's ghost has to show up in a military uniform.

I always thought the whole Singularity thing was supposed to be a parody of the whole idea...

The Singularity is supposed to be an apocalyptic positive feedback loop.  That's pretty much what it means - it's named after a point of discontinuity in a meromorphic function, specifically meant to invoke a vertical asymptote on a graph of "progress," by whatever metric, where technological prowess all but literally divides by zero.  The idea of machine intelligence outpacing human is just the how, not the what.  With that in mind, the subtext of the whole Singularity bit, where the alleged trigger occurs, the media is whipped into a frenzy, and the cast barely notice, seems loud and clear:

"Get a grip."

Well, of course Hannelore is the one who kept the singularity from destroying all of mankind.

After Station spent nearly a decade trying to figure her out, he came to the conclusion that humans were worth saving.

And I have every reason to believe he is actually AI #1.

And I have every reason to believe he is actually AI #1.

If nothing else, he's a pretty good example of a powerful AI responsible for the well being of a large number of people. I really doubt he's the first- but this, http://jephjacques.com/post/14655843351/un-hearing-on-ai-rights (http://jephjacques.com/post/14655843351/un-hearing-on-ai-rights) is the only thing I can find where Jeph actually talks about the first AI, and it's not 100% clear if that's actually canon for the comic. An interesting read, and it's kind of amazing that AI's have been developed enough in the QC-verse to make a case for citizenship since before 1999. Then again, in many ways the QC-verse is way more advanced than ours, and that could be attributed to a single successful AI experiment and the repercussions thereof.

Back to the storyline, already in progress - it appears the place where the little house party happened really is Tai's house. I suspect that this means she moved out of her dorm years ago.

It's the boldly confessing her love to Dora part; for what I would hope are obvious reasons.

... and I first read the diagram as (Librarians(Librarians)Lesbians) ... which I found very funny in its own aspect but "Lesbrarians" in the middle makes more sense, of course.

Tai regrets in the cold light of day what was wrought with liquid courage. She fears that her confession will drive Dora away. But then she didn't see Dora standing as if she'd been beaned between the eyes with a baseball bat. And she didn't see the blush.

Also, I know it's neither here nor there, but has Tai put on a bit of weight around the hips? I know everyone's butt spreads out when sitting or lying down, but Tai has been looking less androgynous lately.

Way I see it, Tai doesn't want to be a "playa." She wants monogamy, committed, ideally Italo-Swede flavored with free-trade coffee. Tai's hangup seems to me to be a fear of success, even as she strives for it, and she is apprehensive about the consequences now that she has made the leap, with the aid of alcohol-fueled boosters.

In other words, "Oh shit oh shit what if this actually works?"

We wait to see what thought processes are going on between the ears of one Ms. Bianchi.

Also, Robutts.

Being honest with a love interest is often the right thing to do. If Dora turns out not to be interested then Tai has arranged for that to come out quickly, substituting quick temporary pain for months of angst. So it's awkward. It would be a bit much to expect romance without awkwardness at their ages.

So in the one corner we have Tai, heavily embarrassed by her admission of feelings to Dora. Possibly so embarrassed she may even avoid Dora for the forseeable future, and if not will most likely avoid talking about said admission.

And in the other corner we have Dora, who while stunned and probably flattered by Tai's admission of feelings, appears to have self-esteem issues so strong they'll make up any excuse to get her to believe that Tai won't (or can't) follow up on her admission. Which means Dora probably won't follow up on it either.

End result: both miss out on their chance to at least try out a relationship with each other. Unless one of them breaks the stalemate and actually goes and talks to the other one. Which, this comic being how it is, could actually happen, but it'll be a while.

I don't think Dora is being oblivious at all. She just thinks Tai may have forgotten her confession and will therefore continue to act as if she's just a friend. It's still too early for Dora to be able to say if she feels the same way about Tai.

This is kind of a depressing twist, but probably one that many people encounter at least once in their life.

You pretty much summed it up how I see it as well. Dora's self esteem has never been particularly noteworthy. She retrospectively sabotaged her OWN relationship with her own insecurities, and most likely still has lingering issues (ones that those memories will more than willingly replay for) that leaves her emotionally blind ("she's so blinded by her own emotional past, that she can't see what's going in her present" is the closest meaning I can think of).

Tai's always been interested in maintaining a stable, monogamous relationship, but so far has never managed to achieve one, not even for a short length of time. One-night-standing and polyamorous romps are no ways to learn about relationships (they're fun and all, but sex is meaningless if your pursuit is about love).

Whether either of them like it or not, no matter how uncomfortable one or the other is, or how they think the other one is, they're going to have to talk it over. Sober if possible.

What is interesting to remember is that Dora was the one who "chased" Marten. And Angus pursued Faye, as Wil did Penelope (and, arguably, Cosette did with Steve).

If something is gonna happen, one of 'em is gonna have to pursue it.

One thing to keep in mind is that Dora and Tai don't exist in a hermetically sealed bubble where no outside influence can get it. While they may be unintentionally picking up their respective relationship idiot balls, Marten and Faye are still in play. Both Dora and Tai will talk to their respective co-workers about this. Marten and the Pugnacious Peach live together and will compare notes. Plots will be hatched. Hilarity WILL ensue.

Or not. Either way, it'll be interesting. :-D

What is interesting to remember is that Dora was the one who "chased" Marten. And Angus pursued Faye, as Wil did Penelope (and, arguably, Cosette did with Steve).

If by pursue you mean "Leapt upon him like a ravenous bear" where Steve and Cosette are concerned, then yes, she aurguably pursued him.

So reading the comic, and checking out the replies is making me wonder, what tone of voice are people thinking Dora is using as she talks out loud to herself? Try it yourselves, say her line in panel 4 in some different tones. I'm undecided as to how she's expressing herself here. Reachng at straws, I guess her body language *might* be leading towards thoughtfully dismissing the whole idea, but it's hard (for me at least) to tell.

I dunno, I wouldn't have interpreted it like that if the title wasn't "No, Dora, No!" Like, I also try not to get ahead of myself and read into things in romantic situations. Even when people are that direct. It balances out all the hope and excitement a bit, which usually wins.

When I watch the livestream, I sometimes have no idea who is being drawn until the piercings/boobs/glasses are drawn, and I know I'm not the only one who has this problem.  All of the main characters look fundamentally similar, although the newer ones do look quite a bit different from each other.  I guess it has to do with the fact that Jeph grew as an artist doing this.

It's been remarked upon multiple times in the comic itself that Dora and Marten look creepily alike. The earliest instance I can remember of someone pointing out their similarity is 374. (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=374)

I don't think Dora is being oblivious at all. She just thinks Tai may have forgotten her confession and will therefore continue to act as if she's just a friend. It's still too early for Dora to be able to say if she feels the same way about Tai.

She is being oblivious AND thinks Tai has forgotten her confession - which she denies to herself was genuine because Tai was drunk.

um so are we not talking about how dang cute Dora looks in this comic? Love that first panel  :-)

...No, I'm pretty sure Dora isn't oblivious, you guys, she just has a condition where you take a course of action that seems logical but UH OH it was the diametric opposite of what you SHOULD have done

It keeps happening to the characters in QC so much I am tempted to call it Northampton Syndrome

The twist at the end of the comic is that it turns out Northampton was built on a small, rather unambitious Hellmouth.

That would explain the damage to the kitchen. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1893)

Actually, yes, I think you're right. I didn't read it very carefully I guess..

I always read that one as 'Let me show you the kitchen (to illustrate exactly -why- we want no witchcraft tomfoolery)'.

The divergence of interpretations in this forum never ceases to fascinate me. That interpretation had not even occurred to me.

And people get surprised when a member of the cast fails to see things that they think is obvious. Ha!
