Hi.
My name is Robert and I've been reading this comic for a couple years now and I've been hanging out at coffee shops since before the laptop computer. Back in the bays when the comic artists would bring pens, pencils, X-acto kinves, and paper in with them.

Mae pawb sy'n hongian allan mewn siopau coffi yn croesawu yma.
Welcome!
-
Welcome to the forum, from another Robert. And mind your lug wrench.
-
The Pen is mightier than the Lug Wrench
Even if it's melted
-
I AM LUGMASTER!
-
Hmm - a challenger appears!
-
Ah...master of lugs?
-
What? ???
-
My lug wrench will only be used to change the tires (and get kinda close to the correct torque, more or less) of the innocent.
It is a magical lug wrench and does not work in the hands of evildoers. Hopelessly crossed threads are the fate of those who would misuse it's power.
-
HAH! You rolled with it! This guy has the makings of a great forumite!
(also, is it made of something that doesn't melt? Because she'll melt it.)
-
She? SHE???!!!!!!!
Oh! You mean Miss Powers over there
-
Oh god did I get a pronoun wrong AGAIN? :psyduck:
-
Depends on who you were referring to
If it was me - then definitely
If it was her
<-----------
Then no.
-
My god it even says "James" in your sig. >_<
I am a derp.
-
Merrick you and pronouns do not have an easy relationship.
Welcome oh wielder of the mystic lug wrench. I am the master of Excalibur

That giant torsion monstrosity there.
-
You look like a man tightening the "Jesus" nut.
-
Those are completely different guys then me actually, I never did get a photo cranking on a Huey's "Jesus" nut.
-
Merrick you and pronouns do not have an easy relationship.
Apparently not :psyduck:
-
Hey, no worry.
Remember in my first year here I made that error with a couple of the female Forumites.
Happens to the best of us.
-
I've had people ask if I'm female on various forums too... I can't help but think that was out of some weird misguided hope then actually thinking I might be female though... :psyduck:
-
Welcome, new person!
There are people here who remember punched cards.
-
Not just remember them, used them.
-
I saw an early use of punched cards in textile mills in Bombay in the mid-60s, and again at a textile mill museum in Massachusetts in the 90s. But I didn't look for more information about them until today. This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacquard_loom)points out that paper punched cards were used in the 1890 U.S. census, and the Jaquard heads on looms go much farther back.
-
Aaaaand there are those of us who barely remember 3½" floppies. :P
-
Which aren't even floppy (well, only internally), unlike 5" floppies and 8" floppies. I still have an 8" floppy that I was given as a leaving card from a former job.
-
For a while in the 80s, I was responsible for a mainframe computer that handled all of the writing, editing and formatting tasks for a small daily newspaper, plus its classified advertising database. It wrote to a couple of large Control Data hard drives, but patches and software were contained on tape cartridges identical to 8-track. And few were reliable.
-
What I mostly remember is that before the laptop, It was a lot easier to strike up a conversation with strangers in a coffeeshop.
It still happens, but not as easily as ti used to.
