Eccleston was great, but sometimes he was pulled down too much by his deeds about the Daleks and the Time Lords.
I absolutely loved Tennant. Almost everything about him was great, though he could be a little bit too self confident. Well, in the end this hubris was what brought him to his downfall. Keyword:

I never really liked Smith. Partly that's not his fault, but Moffat's. I very much liked the style of the new series, brought in by Russell T. Davies. Moffat's style seems too polished to me at times. But even with that aside, Smith was always so hyper, but still so clumsy, especially in regard to humans.
I look forward to Capaldi. He seems a bit more dark, maybe a bit more "Eccleston-ian". It'd be good to have a doctor with a dash of cynicism again.
Honestly I've never really understood the Doctor/Amy relationship. I think it all became more complicated when she and Rory became the Doctors parents in law.
I didn't see much of Clara yet (I've only watched the first eight episodes of the 7th season yet), but I think she's alright.
Also I realised how much I don't like the episodes of the sixth season when I was looking for an episode to rewatch while on the bus. I randomly skipped through almost all of them until I opened "The Doctor's Wife" and decided that that was an acceptable episode…

You absolutely must see the Christmas special and her episodes to understand the 50th Anniversary Special and why she is special in the world of Doctor Who...
She was in Assymlumn of the Daleks and Christmas Special before she became the companion. Same person in three different times. The reason why is explained in series 7 finale
