That's odd - Oglaf http://oglaf.com/ (http://oglaf.com/) (NSFW) is no longer listed under "Other Good Comics". I wonder, does Jeph no longer think it's good. Or is he now wary of linking to it because it is actually very very NSFW.
-
I hadn't noticed, but I doubt it's been removed because it's NSFW - some of the QC strips aren't very SFW either!
-
Oglaf is extremely explicit, anything in QC doesn't even begin to hold up in a comparison of SFW-ness. The comic's still hilarious, so I'm guess it's content.

I'd say it's hilarious as ever and leave it at that.
-
The first ones, with the sorceress' apprentice, were funny. Now you occasionally get a funny one, but most are just far fetched without being funny at all.
-
It's been hit-and-miss lately, but this one (http://oglaf.com/deadfall/) was pretty hilarious.
-

You have no idea. It's format is basically comical porn.
-
You have no idea.
Somehow I doubt that
-
What do I have no idea about? I've read Oglaf - it's definitely not safe for work, I agree there! But then again I'm old-fashioned, I don't think people should be reading any comic at work.
-
What if you work as a proof-reader?
-
If you work as a proofreader for a comic, proofread the heck out of that thing! :P

Reminds me of the time I checked QC in class and this was that day's comic. (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1887)

You too, eh? (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1334)

That was about the time I started reading QC full-time.
To my everlasting shame. :psyduck:
-
Yup, those were the ones I was thinking of when I said QC wasn't SFW!
-
I think Oglaf lost the funny some time ago. If Jeph thought so to, it would not surprise me particularly.
-
I thought the comic links were partially inspired by being friendly with the creator too.

Funny how the naked strips have that effect on people. Mine was a little earlier (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1434).

I'd agree. But on Twitter, Jeph was all atwitter over a few recent ones, so that does not seem to be the case.
-
This thread kinda turned into a tl;dr of QC for the risque strips.
-
See? Everything really does have a purpose!
-
Jeph just answered this on Tumblr. If he links to adult sites Google could drop him from AdSense and cost him a lot of revenue.
-
That is kind of odd because I remember seeing some ads in the past for more adult-themed comics or websites, like slipshine or c.urvy...
-
makes sense, unfortunately. that sort of thing's a big reason why i hate the advertising supported business model.
-
Oglaf is basically the NC-17 OOTS/Discworld, although of a somewhat lower tier. I actually look forward to it all week. The artists batting average is better than almost any other webcomic for me.
QC is essentially a 2 Broke Girls or Don't Trust The B*** in comic form (with robots). Bickering humor about half the time. Bickering humor dates back to The Honeymooners. Hell, bickering humor dates back to Much Ado About Nothing. By comparison, there aren't many places you get owlbear jokes, or gay Conan jokes. So Oglaf has a lot more novelty.
-
Oh, well, why bother then?

I don't think the characters in QC actually bicker. They are more sarcastic. Bickering is usually "dumb": (Is not! Is too! Is not! Is too!). Jeph doesn't go for the sitcom "miscommunication is funny" gags, which is usually the root cause bickering. QC characters banter, not bicker.

On a positive note, the new link took me to Gunnerkrigg Court for the first time. I archived binged and am now in love with a new webcomic ^-^
-
New? I thought Gunnerkreig's been there for a while... (another oone of my favorites) ;)
-
I'm too lazy to find it, but I recall Jeph tweeting about the latest Oglaf a few days ago, showing that he still approves.

It's in a recent QA post on Tumblr:

hey mr jeph sir person, love QC have for years etc, slightly unhappy about something. The link to Oglaf is no longer on the QC homepage. Have you lost your liking for it? Pls respond
I had to take it down to comply with Google AdSense’s “no linking to adult sites” policy. AdSense is a significant portion of my revenue and I couldn’t afford to lose it. Which is a shame because Oglaf is really really really good. :\
-
Just a thought: Couldn't he remove the hyperlink and leave the name?
-
It's quite likely that Google examine the text of the page as well as links; after all, that's their thing!

I've seen that, but he also sent the tweets along the lines of finding the latest strip funny.
-
They don't advertise on his twitter.
More importantly, I don't think they can "read" the twitter insert on his homepage.
-
I'm pretty sure 94ssd's point is to (further) counter the speculation that Jeph "no longer thinks it's good" or similar. (Supporting the idea that the Google policy is the only reason the link was removed.)
