So. I came here originally through the links on XKCD, read the last few strips (it was in the time of the aftermath of Marten's dad's wedding), was confused by the host of characters and their interactions, and thus binged the entire archive (took me like a week) to make sense of it. Since then I'm a regular reader (there are even days when checking QC for the new strip is my first activity, before breakfast) and I've occasionally peered into the forums to see how other people make sense of some strips, but could fight the urge to add my own comments - until now.
I'm 27, from Switzerland (before you ask about the usual clichés: Yes, I really like cheese and other dairy products. No, I'm not that much into chocolate, and on the rare occasion I prefer the dark kind), and as I'm a rather introvert person my main hobbies are solitary activities like reading (from scientific and political books to Fantasy and Sci-Fi) and listening to music (an eclectic selection of mostly metal - I rejoiced at the Turisas reference in one strip).

Greetings, salutations, and watch out for Melting lug wrenches. (I don't know if Ms. Powers' secret agent has this thread on his randomizer or not.)
-
Welcome, and try putting the lug wrench under a Faraday shield.
-
I have been on this forum the better part of a decade and I have no idea what the fuck this lug wrench joke is about.
Anyway, welcome to the forum you Swiss wonder. Let me touch your balls.

Let me touch your balls.
Sorry, but the crown jewels are safely locked away. The only person who may touch them is the queen whenever she is about to mount... erm... ascend the... erm... throne.
-
You're fired.
-
Here is a tire iron and a beer.
Salute. Here is to having queens who enjoy mounting our thrones. :D

Switzerland. Huh. And from the German speaking part too, judging from your username and you writing about Basel in a different thread.
-
Welcome dude.
And seriously, can someone explain the whole lug wrench thing? It's driving me mad! :psyduck:
-
It's an old forum joke - it's been going on for ages, long before I joined up.

00:29:28 ...yelled, "Greetings" and melted his lug wrench.
I think Kugai, the chief melter, explained this a few months ago.
-
There have been a number of ways to greet new forum members used in the "Hi, I'm new" thread. Blue Kitty had questionnaires for new members. I used to greet people in Welsh. Things like that.
Kugai has been melting lug wrenches for a very long time, though, despite various suggestions as to how to get around having your lug wrench melted.

So German is already taken, huh.

Es ist zu früh am Morgen. Willkommen!

Have you stopped doing that? That makes me :-(

While Latin is not a national language of Switzerland, three modern forms of it are. Toute Suisse est divisée en trois parts. La tutta Svizzera è divisata in tre parte. Tut Svizra es divisà in treis parts.
(No, I don't really speak them; I had some French lessons in school, but the Italian and especially the Rumantsch sentences are largely guesswork and probably horribly wrong)
