Far and away, Elliot (the giant from the Secret Bakery (http://questionablecontent.wikia.com/wiki/Elliot), if you forgot) is my favorite minor character.
I really sympathize with the fact that his personality and his physical appearance clash. He's super gentle and sweet and a really nice guy, but has this massive, intimidating body that scares people (I sense a bit of Jeph in him, you know?). With this comic (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2081), especially what he says at the end, I fell head-over-heels in love. I was like, "squee! Elliot I want to have your man-babies!"
Am I alone here, or does anyone else really like Elliot?
-
I totaly agree with you! I myself am one of those "Gentle Giants", so I understand his woes and really sympathize with him. I hope that Marmom's relationship with that baker guy, whose name has just left my mind, will make him return to this comic. :-)
P.S. Your topic was what motivated me to make an account. I've been lurking the WCDT for a few months now since I discovered the comic, but seeing your topic without any replies made me want an account! So, thanks for that.

lol, well I'm glad I reeled you in. I only posted this a few hours ago, though, I'm sure it'd've got some posts eventually.
I hadn't thought about Veronica's romance potentially letting us see more of the Secret Bakery and Elliot, though. Here's hoping!

Just thought I'd throw out a "Yaaarp" to this thread. Elliot is definitely a favourite of mine, probably 'cause I empathize with him the most.
-
Welcome, new person!
Awkward though it was, Elliot's interaction with Hannelore showed him to be a good person.
-
But he turned out to be a knife killer (of trout)!
-
I actually would have liked to see more Hanners&Elliot interaction.
Not because of anything related to shipping, but because I think that Elliot is a sort of calm counterpart of Hanners. Hanners is a nervous person who overthinks a lot of things and works herself up easily and Elliot basically seems to be the exact opposite. But at the same time, they're both a little socially awkward in a cute way. So I kind of hope that they meet again.
-
Friendshipping is ok.
-
Absolutely.
-
Freindshipping - where each paddles their own canoe but they help each other carry during a portage.
-
Elliot is one of my favorite minor characters too. He's very endearing, and just goofy enough that he can be comic relief while still being realistic and someone you can easily relate to.
And I'll second everything Mlle Germain said about Elliot and Hanners. It was really fun seeing them together the first time.
-
For the record, I'm not a gentle giant. Which is to say I'm not giant, I'm just incredibly and unmistakably masculine-appearing, which clashes with my Elliot-like demeanor. (IRL, anyway. >_> I never get into heated arguments in meatspace. You'd think I was really shy and gentle IRL, I swear >_>)
I had forgotten about Elliot and Hanners! Can someone post a link to their first interactions? I do wanna see more of them (not in a shipping way) now that it's been mentioned.
'cause if you think about it, pretty much everyone in the QC cast is sort of...all up in their own heads, if that makes sense. They're all sort of...self-involved, kinda neurotic people. The kind of people who blow tiny things out of porportion, and yell at others and get yelled at a lot, and get angry over little things, and are generally very youthfully confused about themselves and their place in the world, and mixed up about their emotions and relationships.
And Hanners, like Pinocchio, is learning how to be a real boy, so to speak. And maybe the rest of the cast aren't exactly ideal teachers. Elliot, who's so mild and calm and guileless (the killing fish thing, lol, it never even crossed his mind to be dishonest or to "prepare" anyone for what he was about to say, he just said it) might be a refreshing change of pace for her. It'd be interesting for her and for us for Hanners to have a real conversation with someone who isn't neurotic.
Not that everyone else isn't nice and accomodating to Hanners, its just, how they treat her is very different from how they normally act, you know? They're deliberately being nice because of her psychological problems. Elliot could act no differently towards Hanners than he does towards anyone else and it'd be fine.

Next: Eliot and Dave fight.

Here ya go, Eddie:

I'd be happy to see him get more screen time and character development.
-
Dawwwww, they're cute together.

Elliot was kind of interesting, but I wanted to learn more about Renee. Is there something interesting about her, or did Jeph lazily make a black version of Faye?
-
I honestly saw her as more similar to Dora than to Faye.
-
She is Angus' ex.
-
I honestly saw her as more similar to Dora than to Faye.
I am pretty sure Renee is supposed to be a counterpart of Faye and I also immediately saw her like this:

http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1865 (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1865)
http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1859 (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1859)
The last one being by far the most obvious, these are all situations that look more like Faye-behaviour than Dora-behaviour to me - I would never have made any connection between Dora and Renee. Just my opinion, though.

I wonder who the guy talking to Elliot in panel 2 is? An alternate Sven?
-
That's alt-Penelope. His secret identity is Muffin Man.

You make a good case, but I always figured Faye and Padma were each other's counterparts, based particularly on these two strips:
1857: An Auspicious Meeting (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1857)
1924: Capital Insubordination (http://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1924)

That's alt-Penelope. His secret identity is Muffin Man.
So the Secret Bakery's secret is that it's the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen?
-
What Storel said. Renee might be intended as the Secret Faye, but she's closer to Dora, and Padma is the Secret Faye.
-

... except when Padma is Secret Raven or Secret Dora ...
The alternative universe CoD was a gag for a single page. As we got to know the characters, the only one fairly consistent parallelism was between Renee and Faye.
(And how is Renee closer to Dora, anyway? We have not seen much of Renee, and in what we have seen, she's pretty consistently like Faye, no?)
-
Yeah, I agree with Sidhekin.
-
Yeah, that's true. Honestly, I mostly consider her Faye because she briefly dated Marten and in a way showed why Faye/Marten would probably never have worked anyway. Holy shit, I wonder if that was the intention all along?
-
That's alt-Penelope. His secret identity is Muffin Man.
But do you KNOW the Muffin Man?
-
As an acquaintance, or in a biblical sense?

Eat the bread as you would a muffin. Bake the muffins out in the open where everyone can see you, using dried human dung for fuel.

So that's the Secret Bakery's big secret!
