Title: Tamarian/QC/English dictionary
Post by: Pilchard123 on 17 Aug 2014, 14:31
So I thought maybe there's potential for turning events in the comic into Tamarian-style phrases. For that matter, why stick to the comic? Forum-events could be amusing as well. I'll start:

Raven, in the air vents
An idea that seemed clever at the time, but with hindsight was dumb.

Veronica, before the wedding
Unwanted matchmaking from a relative

Elliot and Marten, at the Horrible Revelation
alternately, Elliot, his suit disheveled
When you think someone is going to be antagonist toward you, and they're not. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2024)

Wil at the bar, his notebook in hand.
When you're dealing with something painful, and someone is taking notes (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2023) for their own writing (or otherwise planning to exploit your experiences in some way external to you).

Faye, her hair in sidetails, her shoulders high.
(I don't know what the hairstyle is actually called.) (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2025) When you're frightened of a decision your friend might make that would massively change your relationship/your life.

Raven, in the airvents ...

Faye, her manner sassy - Inadvertendly starting a slice of life webcomic by picking a depressed Indie-boy for your life-saving first social contact in a frightening new city (Burning down your flat strightly optional).

Sara, in the Allosaurus - Someone vanishing inexplicably from a social circle but no-one questions it.

Raven and the Espressosaurs - A person or situation you thought you understood has unanticipated and bizarre depths.

Faye and Marten, their underpants exposed - An innocent situation grievously misinterpreted due to your own prejudgements.

Marten, working at the library

Someone doing a job that they're unqualified for and doing surprisingly well at it.

As a guy with  Ph.D. in math working at a retail beer distributor, I need to say that the situation isn't surprising, some library jobs (reshelving books, cleaning up and pointing people in the right direction) really don't require a degree in Library Science.

It's not so much a fish-out-of-water situation as a "How the hell did I wind up here?" sort of deal.

Marigold, in space
When you're about to throw up

Steve, off-panel
When you just had an amazing adventure that nobody would believe

Jimbo, ordering by colour
When you're completely out of your comfort zone and have no idea what you're doing

Gabby and Padma, Meena and Lydia
When you're a woman of colour, and you get a sinking feeling everytime a woman darker than Tai is introduced in QC, because you know she probably won't be around for long

That's a rather disturbing observation, actually.

I'd like to see more of Lydia; I think she could serve a great role as Sven's Jimmeny Cricket - the voice of his conscience.

What about her?

The others aren't even commemorated as Allosaurus chow.  At least with Meena and Padma we got some closure - Meena married Dave and apparently has kids, and Padma's in Cali with Gramma.  Lydia just vanished - I guess the internship ran out - and Gabby dropped off the face of the earth!
