Title: Big in Japan
Post by: rynne on 19 Dec 2004, 07:19
Has anyone else here—esp. the ones from the Baltimore area—heard these guys?  To clarify, I'm talking about the Lake Trout side project, not the Reno punk band.  I caught them at Ottobar last night and was blown away.

The best description I can come up with is a jazz trio channeling an electronica act: the standard keyboard/bass/drums line-up is intact (all played live), and the songs are largely improvised, but the result is throbbing dancefloor-filling goodness.  The drummer is incredibly impressive, literally playing d'n'b breakbeats on an acoustic drum set.  Really cool stuff, I've got to see them again.

Sorry, everyone.  These guys should come up with a more unique name.  :(

no don't be, it's easy to remember, fairly amusing and sounds like a good listen if i can ever manage to find anything by them.

Dude... last post was three years ago...

THREE YEARS AGO!
What the fuck?

Plus I can't even decipher what the OP was talking about. Is he talking about the band Lake Trout?

Oh shi–   :-D

Three years later, I still haven't seen 'em again.   I just now found that I missed their New Year's gig (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=580536&blogID=342460646) three months ago.

Incidentally, free audio here (http://www.archive.org/details/BigInJapan).

I thought this thread was going to be about Australian Power metal, but whatever.

Oh my god it is so old. This thread is so old what the fuck.
