Clinton has mentioned having been in the same class as Emily. Emily goes to Smith, an all-women's school. Furthermore, there were other guys in the flashback. What gives?

I was under the impression that they had attended the same high school.

There is no indication that Emily attends Smif (it's in-universe name). The fact that she had an internship at Smif College's main library doesn't necessarily make her a student there. The generally-accepted view amongst forum members is that Emily and Clinton are both students at University of Massachusetts in nearby Amhurst.

Other possible explanations:
- Emily started at Amherst but transferred to Smif
- Emily did undergrad at Amherst and goes to grad school at Smif. I may remember it incorrectly, but didn't Claire announce (in response to Marten's fumbling attempts at training them?) that we (=the interns) are all graduate students?

I'd say this is the most likely; and yes, Claire did indeed say she, Gabby, and Emily were grad students. (http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2205)

Also, Smith participates in the Five College Consortium, so students from Smith, Mt Holyoke, Amherst, Hampshire, and UMass can take classes at each other's schools. There's even a bus route that hits all 5 campuses every hour.

Uh, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that... a wizard did it.

Boy, I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder

Temporal distortion?

I seem to remember someone saying once that Smith is a women's college for undergrads, but that it accepts both men and women in its graduate degree programs. If that's correct, that would probably be the simplest explanation.
