Wonder if Swordsmary is a hipster who likes 80s sunglasses or if her optics are similar to Geordi LaFarge's VISOR.The same question crossed my mind. Does the thing have a Cylon-style scanning blip?
Wonder if Swordsmary is a hipster who likes 80s sunglasses or if her optics are similar to Geordi LaFarge's VISOR.
To me, panel 3 proves that Swordsmary is a very average and middle-of-the-road being who desperately needs to be seen as hip and/or edgy.

And if you think about it, laser phobia is a pretty realistic fear for a robot to have.
Anecdotally, two big reasons people have told me they won't get a tattoo is they don't know if there's anything they like enough to have permanently on them. That was my reason for the longest time. But since two or three years ago I have at least a couple in mind that I might like to get.
I doubt AIs feel pain like humans do
I find it interesting to read a discussion on the reasons to not get a tattoo because I don't have reasons. I just ... don't want one. I've never felt the slightest interest."Just don't want one" is a perfectly valid reason.
I wonder if Jeph meant "unisex" haircut. As in, any gender could sport that cut.
Comic's up!
What's a "bisexual" haircut? Bub's new haircut looks like nothing out of the ordinary to me.

And now I have an image of Melon knocking on the side of her dented head and saying "See? No pain receptors." á la Rusty from Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot.I doubt AIs feel pain like humans do
Yes, Jeph said once that they don't ("they're computers").
Without some kind of damage sensors they'd be as vulnerable and miserable as people who have no pain perception. The input from the damage sensors could be emotionally neutral I suppose.

Except Freud would say the opposite :-D
I have to say that I preferred Bubbles with long hair. Actually I prefer most of the female characters with long hair with the exception of Tai and Melon, neither of whom I can imagine going long. Still, I know about Jeph having a kink for ladies' necks so this doesn't surprise me.

While the comic works great as a gag, one might question how Faye could possibly not be aware that they have several lasers.....I mean, she and Bubbles are the owners after all, so one would assume they both are well aware of the equipment they possess....
@cybersmurf,
The only time we've seen Faye with long hair was in a time-skip sequence where we see how Faye's aesthetic changed as she was working for Corpse Witch. I kind of fell in love with one of the panels where she has her long hair in pigtails. What can I say, the idea of Faye choosing a cute aesthetic was strange enough that it's stuck in my mind ever since!
Just looking in panel 3, I suddenly realise that Bubbles has changed so much from her introduction as to be nearly a completely different character.
Just looking in panel 3, I suddenly realise that Bubbles has changed so much from her introduction as to be nearly a completely different character.
But in an entirely good way, by which I mean not just that she's better off and happier now, but that her 'character' when first introduced wasn't real, because she was so under the thumb of Corpse Witch, she couldn't be herself.
Just looking in panel 3, I suddenly realise that Bubbles has changed so much from her introduction as to be nearly a completely different character. That's happened with a few characters - like Hannelore, and to a lesser degree, Brun. I think it's just an effect of Jeph still getting a sense of who the character is as he works them into the story.
I should have seen this coming, honestly. It's not unheard of for people to change their hairstyle after a major change in their life, and Jeph is known to be rather fond of changing his characters' hairstyles, to say the least. And by change, it is as far as I can recall, someone correct me please, he has chopped those long locks pretty much consistently.

Jeph REALLY has a thing about short hair.
I find it interesting to read a discussion on the reasons to not get a tattoo because I don't have reasons. I just ... don't want one. I've never felt the slightest interest. I guess I can see the appeal, though. It's just not for me.I don't oppose people wearing ink, but there are 'way more people wearing ink than people who wear ink well. I don't think I'd be part of the latter group.
If I had to give a reason, I'd say that it's because they look kind of tatty (pun unintended) when they get old, as great as they can look when they are brand new. But that's more rationalisation than reason.

I noticed many people do not realise they have laser equipment in their house. People think of laser beams as high power tools for cutting and welding. Always fun to remind them: do you have a cd player? Optical cable perhaps? A laser-pointer?

Also, I love the fact that Bubs keeps making Faye blush HARD quite often. Faye, of all people. Faye the indifferent. "I'm nothing but snark" faye. Faye the sasspool of doom. Fleshy Punchbot.
Do you have pictures?
All I found were these.Unfortunately no videos of this happening.(click to show/hide)
My own personal experience is limited to various electrical components dissembling themselves, releasing their vital smoke or trying to make like a light bulb.

I know, right? And the way Bubbles swishes off so serenely in panel 4 shows that she loves doing it, too.
That or Sam is going to overstep the line and treat Faye and Bubbles as her assistants/employees,
Oh, and Sam? How you do a cool pegasus is like this:

Not going to happen. Neither Faye nor Bubbles will take being treated like that. Sam may be impulsive, but she's not stupid, even when overexcited.

But that's kind of the point, she is impulsive. Too impulsive in fact.
Sam might forget that its not her business and that she's a guest of Faye and Bubbles, to the point where she might act like its her own private area and not, as it is, a workshop where two people are trying to run a business.
That or Sam will end up taking away customers from Faye and Bubbles or something to that effect.
That or Sam will end up taking away customers from Faye and Bubbles or something to that effect.Sam won't take their customers. They aren't in competition - she does sprays, they do repairs and upgrades.
I find it slightly worrying that the grinder appears (and Sam's excitement about same) in the same strip where Faye's just promised Sam will be returned with all her fingers still attached.
Deliberate wind-up on Jeph's part, of course. 'specially on a Friday...
Bubbles doesn't fool me; her posture in panel 3 is too practised and calculated. Either she's testing to see how Faye reacts to her doing heavy work whilst lightly clad or she's practising for her audition for the lead role in the rumoured The Evil Dead reboot movie. I'd heard that the producers had decided that chainsaws were too old school and were looking for a new gimmick!
Oh, and Bubbles has no navel confirmed. There's just a join between her abdominals.
Seriously, I suspect that Bubbles keeps the concrete saw around as a time waster detector. If there appears to be no physical cause for her subject's complaint, she says 'I need to go in' and pulls out the saw. If the subject is then miraculously cured, she knows that there is no physical cause to find! It's an old sugeon's trick going back centuries!

They are in robotic repair. Does 'swapped for titanium and re-attached' count when it comes to 'the right number of fingers'?
Okay, is Bubbles posing for Faye's benefit - or is she Ms. August on a hardware calendar? :-D
(and if the latter, where can I buy it?)
Bubbles removed her top because it was loose, and most power tools have an “avoid wearing loose articles of clothing” warning on them. Also Bubbles probably didn’t want to get oil all over her new clothes.
And she knew it would get a reaction out of Faye. She’s multitasking. :D
And one more gratuitous wardrobe change for Bubbles. Not that I'm complaining, mind. Her iliac furrow is showing.
Well, it looks as though predicting more Melon wackiness is like packing an umbrella in your bag. Still. It's been a fine week of yet more Faye and Bubbles with a dash of May precociousness.Samantha, not May.
Also, when did Bubbles change clothes? right after cutting her hair? Admittedly, this may be better work attire, especially if you want to operate a (fast) rotating machine - no loose clothing or hair.

My guess is she had the sport bra and bike shorts under her previous outfit.
There's no problem that can't be solved with an angle grinder. When all you have is an angle grinder, everything starts to look like an angle.
When loose clothing (protective leathers aren't loose and billowy) gets caught in a power tool, it can result in injury or death to the human operator. Or if Buggles is operating it it would damage or total the tool.
Shit! Fixed. When loose clothing (protective leathers aren't loose and billowy) gets caught in a power tool, it can result in injury or death to the human operator. Or if Buggles is operating it it would damage or total the tool.
Buggles, LOL
When caught in a zombie outbreak, the angle grinder is far superior to the chainsaw, which gets gunked up very quickly.Amateurs go with man portable equipment. Pros go the brush cutter route.
