I caved. Bought one. Love it to bits though it took a tiny itty bit to get used to using the stylus but it is lovely to use. I think i'm most excited at it's potential for RTS. Intilgent Systems could make so many neat things happen with the DS.
It is a used one though so I have some questions.
Am I just stupid or is their no where or nothing to attach the stylus to? I nabbed a binder clip of just the right size that clasps onto the weird little...carrying cord and the stylus with out either moving around too much.
And is there anything important in the user manual I should know?
I picked up the Mario 64 DS version and would just like some recomendations on games for the DS?
-
A) Attach the wrist strap that came with it. It's also a thumb strap that's useful for Super Mario DS.
B) The stylus goes in a hole in the back of the DS. The one you're trying to attach to things is your reserve stylus.
C) Feel the Magic is absurd and fun.
-
My brother, quite rightfully I'm sure, uses the phrase "like a monkey fucking a football." This seems like that sort of situation! Thanks guys.
I haven't played the mini-games yet. I'm enjoying Mario 64 DS (that's just weird, the 64 DS...) but it has alot of the same problems I had with the original (shit looking bad pixilation when rotating [at least the slightly less] frustrating camera) but I like the stylus for running around quite a bit more then the 64 controller.
Feel the Magic? Description please?
Advance Wars DS will possibly be beyond sexual.
James that is crime about your DS not being refunded yet. I'd call interpol and have them get on the case.
-
Feel the Magic XX/XY is a bizarre little game about, mm, let's say it is about getting the girl. It is basically Sega having fun with the touch screen. You are allowed to participate in this fun(and truly fun it is), but be aware that it will not last too long.
-
i bought one while i was over in the US. it is a sexy machine.
i am anxiously awaiting Advance Wars.
-
I'm having a hard time envisioning how you'd play games with a stylus. Is it like playing games on your Palm or something? I mean, from the pics I've seen it has buttons and whatnot, right? How do you hold it so you can press buttons and still use the stylus? Seems like you'd need an extra hand.

Some games, like Feel the Magic, use the stylus entirely(and the microphone). It's just a collection of bizarre minigames, though.
Mario 64 DS has three control schemes, two of which involve using the thumbpad on the touch screen with one hand and the buttons with the other, the third using the d-pad and the buttons.
Metroid Prime: Hunters uses the stylus in one hand and the trigger button on the other, so it's easy to manage with one hand.
It works really well.
-
Feel the Magic sounds neat. Like short-short I'd beat it in say, a hour and a half bus ride?
The mini games on Mario 64 DS are probably the coolest part! I actually haven't got burned out on Metroid Hunters.
I eagerly await Advance Wars DS. Argh a quick search I've found a date. 10/09/2005.
"The latest game in the vaunted military-tactics series features a new battle system that takes full advantage of the system’s two screens. New missions will have you commanding air forces on the top screen and ground forces below on the touch screen."
-
You can beat the main game in a couple hours (though I don't recommend trying on a crowded bus...)
It'll take a couple more to beat get a perfect game though.
-
That's when I play the most. I probably spend two and a half hours on the bus going to and from work.
Big factor in buying the DS before alot of games came out: plays GBA/SP games. And they look alot brighter.
-
I love the DS. it supplies great fun in times of endless boredom, the only problem i found with it is no one lese around me has one, makeing the wireless feature pointless.
-

Yeah, um...
Don't play certain parts of Feel the Magic while on a bus to work.
There are two minigames that require you to blow on your DS and another that makes you yell as loud as you can at it.
-
Thats what I figured, I remember reading about those on the back of the bus.
I also have not come across anyone around me with a DS. I kind of want to get my friends hooked on it.
-
My question is, is the DS worth the money or should I wait 2 years for them come out with a new version and mark down the DS? I have an SP that gets played when I'm bored. I'm not a big gamer and money is always an issue. I think I own a whole 6 games for my SP... god I'm lame.
-
I'd wait awhile if you play more casualy. I planned on it but I got a used one. I still should have waited longer but I dids what I dids.
-
First of all, are you stalking me Jello Boy???
Sceond of all, I might wait, if i get it though I want to before I move, I cant read japanese... though they would carry iot at the NEX. Hmmmm. I'll see how long it takes before i get tired of the forum, them I might buy it :D The fate of the DS rests in your hands! bwahahahaha
-
There will be no new version of the DS, just new colors, I imagine.
The SP only exists because of gamer reaction to the GBA's darkness. Nintendo never intended to produce it.
-
Stalking? No, I'm just coincendently around...Heh.
That's a good idea. I noticed the menu stuff on mine can be set to all sorts of languages. I wouldn't expect to find games in english over there.
-
I've played imports before, and it's not good when you actually need to know what the text is saying. I will get to see new games before you guys hahahahaha. Kinda like when I lived in Hawaii, only even sooner then that. Ah, the possibilities!
-
I am envious. Well for more then just the sooner availability of games but still. Plus the games don't won't come out over here at all.
-
Hehe, Japan is good for many things. My husband just built me a very nice desktop for half the money. Bad news is, if it breaks down i'd have to get it fixed back there or have him send back parts. They arent compatable with US parts. Bad!
-
That is bad. Not suprising I bet. I imagine they have labtops that turn into miniture robots.
Except probably not.
-
I'll check when i get there. though it's probably a not.
-
the only game im looking forward in ds' near future: castlevania ds.
that wil casue me to buy the ds, but since its not coming out till this fall, maybe the price of ds will god own too :)
-
I dunno....can the DS play gameboy games?
Fun Fact: Nintendos Gameboy, from 1989 to 2002, sold over 700 Million Gameboys(including Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance and dozens of special edition gameboys)

-

-

Mario 64 DS rocks
Multiplayer Metroid is awesme, and can't wait for the full version of the game
waitin' on Yoshi Touch & go, Warioware Touched, Final Fantasy 3 (the Japanese version) Soul Calibur DS, Crystal Chronicles, Mariokart, Animal Crossing DS and still hopin that Nintendo Makes SSBM on it
DS has aLOT of potential and I have no regrets on buying one

dork, i mean you could emulate/gameboy player/gameboy advance/game boy/gameboy color for your gameboy needs, and get a ds for...ds needs
-
My PC doesn't have duel screens.
Yu-Gi-Argh.
-
I was watching some poker on television this weekend and realized that the DS would be perfect for such a game.
-
Luigi minigame = poker
Ironically, it'd also be a good set up for Yu-Gi-Oh games
and online with it.
coming from someone who actually plays the real card game, but hates the video games, this actually has me interested
-
Oh man. DS + strategic card games = some kind of nerd love child. Come to think of it, I think Nintendo's US corporate office is in the same town/city as each other up here in WA some where.
-
Nintendo of America is based in Redmond.
-
I figured it started with an R. That's what through me off, WotC is in Renton.
-
You know what else would work great with the DS? Adventure games.
How hard would it be to port SCUMM engine games (or even Grim Fandango, could it handle it?) over to the DS, touch screen for commands and inventory, non-touch for the actual world? They could even get away with the original graphics on that screen without it looking too old.
Come on Lucasarts, cash in on some of your non-Star Wars licenses for a change, and give us some console conversions!

The DS keeps me busy when I could be doing stuff like... work... Bit I really do like the idea of some action games goin on.. hmmm.. metroid prime... wouldn't be half as pretty but still.. it's a thought
-
I just picked up my DS after christmas, and I must say,
BUY WARIO WARE TOUCHED NOW!!!
it's good
-
yes, Wario ware is wonderful on 9000 different levels to the 234234th power.
-
I want one.
But I'll probably wait a few years, so the good games are out for it...
I'm just now planning on grabbing a Game Cube. The games (save one or two) are finally good... :-P

Like Metroid Prime: Hunters(Coming in May)?

It's out? I can never find any interesting DS games when I go to the store.
As for the DS... I want Crystal Chronicles, dammit. And a Legend of Zelda, where the touch screen is the menu screen, and you have to select your sub weapon without pausing the game.
-
oh yes, wario ware touched is out...and oh baby. it is the sex. that's right the sex.
-

You said it. It came out on feb 14 (IN Canada anyways)
And that Yoshi Touch & Go Comes out on Mar 14 (again, IN Canada)
-
I'm not sure if I'd associate the words sex and Wario but it is a fun game none the less.

oh ye have little faith...
-
Yoshi Touch and Go. It's fun.
That is all.
*Goes to play more T&G*
-
I just found out this weekend that the DS is sturdy device after dropping it in a puddle of water.
-
It's Nintendo.
It's to be expected.
I dropped my GBA in a toilet once. Still works like new.
...
But I still got an SP anyway. Because I dropped my GBA in a toilet.
-
Well, at first the touch screen wasn't working. I guess after drying out it worked again.
