On some websites you go to, there is a picture which has been split into various 'sub pictures' and placed into a grid in order to allow quicker downloading and being able to use part of the picture as a link, is there an easy way to do this (ie, a piece of software) or does it have to be done by hand?
Cheers!

photoshop does it
though nobody likes tabels anymore
its the only thing i can use though
just use the slice tool, then "save for web"
if ye want, i can do it for you if you dont have photoshop

I think that's known as 'slicing' an image. I suppose it would be possible to cut and paste it together using something such as Paint, however I know for a fact that Macromedia Fireworks MX does it with a simple tool. The 30-day trial is on download.com (http://www.download.com), download it if you want. Hope that's what you're looking for :D

you can also set up multi-linking for ne image through some CSS so like 1 image, but the 1st 1/3rd is 1 link, the 2nd is a nother, 3rd is yet another.

Slicing and tables... Can be done. CSS doesn't have to do everything, you know. :)
