Yep, if you could book any bands for it, who?
For me....
Children Of Bodom and Lamb Of God headlining.
From there....
At The Gates, Amon Amarth, Opeth, Bleeding Through, Mudvayne, and Lightning Bolt to break up the monotany.
That's just for metal though. I like too many chill bands to actually make a fest around them. ASMZ/GYBE, Mogwai, Iron And Wine, Tom Waits, Azure Ray, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones, Galactic, Particle, Buckethead and all his side projects, Les Claypool and all his projects, Clutch, Cursive, Dave Brubeck, Deerhoof, Del The Funkee Homosapien, Deltron 3030, Dr. Octagon, Busdriver, DJ Shadow, The Black Mages, The Specials, The Skatalites, and I Am Spoonbender would all definitely be in there though.
Oh, and the band/artiste can be dead or alive, don't matta.
-
Del The Funkee Homosapien
GAH!!! High-school flashback!
-
For the simple fact you'd have Children of Bodom and Azure Ray at the same venue, I salute you -
*salutes*
Can't think of mine just yet, will post in a bit...
-
All you need is a Venetian Snares/Aphex Twin/Kid 606 bizarre crossover and you have the most mindfucking experience ever.
-
My dream music festival would be the kind that had a bunch of great artists I previously hadn't known were great.
It would be a weekend of getting completely blown away!
-
All you need is a Venetian Snares/Aphex Twin/Kid 606 bizarre crossover and you have the most mindfucking experience ever.
I'd be there. Drillnbassbreakcoreraggajunglementalism all the way.

A concert made up by disbanded or dead bands or artists and one still kicking:
Joy Division
Gang of Four
Pink Floyd
Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Nick Drake
The Clash(just for Guns of Brixton, not really keen on anything else by them)
Leadbelly(curious that is all)
Ravi Shankar
and Mozart
oh and David rocking out on the harpe ;)
etc...
-
Too right milkmandan, can always throw in some shitmat and remarc to make it even more crazy!
Planet Mu records are best!
I then i'd have Lexanculpt play afterwards just to cool down my brain.
-
Windir, Finntroll and Enslaved.
That was the exact lineup for the Windir farewell concert, after Valfar died.
-
pig destroyer, combatwounded veteran, labrat, daughters
or
low, pavement, swervedriver
also, a venetian snares aphex twin kid606 session would be fucking beautiful, sturge. it made me smile just thinking about it.
-
Radiohead
Cat Stevens
Joni Mitchell
Arcade Fire
They Might Be Giants
Bjork
The White Stripes
The New Radicals
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
-
Alls I know is that I need to see Interpol play live before I will be ready to die.
-
Alls I know is that I need to see Interpol play live before I will be ready to die.
damn right you do! oh and don't pay attention to all these nayseyers you'll find online that say their shows are blah and blah and blah... NOT TRUE! they are fucking brilliant
also, as to the main topic, well - i don't think i could deal with more than like 2/3 bands in night... so i'd have to say that i would pick something along the following lines:
Arcade Fire
and then
The Smashing Pumpkins
and then bliss
sweet bliss
-
first i'd get really stoned. then i'd go out to a farm where john fahey had mysteriously come back to life and organized a concert, including:
no neck blues band
sunburned hand of the man
pelt (reunion)
jack rose
six organs of admittance
tower recordings (reunion)
growing
my cat is an alien
charalambides
fursaxa
and then for the final two acts i would get to see
jandek
john fahey
play live. that would be a dream come true.
plus it'd all be outside and with cool people. it'd be a blast.
-
The Wrens opening for Les Savy Fav, or vice versa.
-
rise against
earthcrisis
god forbid
most precious blood
ramallah
converge
candiria
brothers keeper
dillinger escape plan
lamb of god
of course, knowing my luck, it would all degenerate into chaos when karl crisis throws a mike stand at the rise against kids for drinking in the green room. yeah, way to be a dick and ruin my fest karl.
-
Too right milkmandan, can always throw in some shitmat and remarc to make it even more crazy!
By an enormous coincidence, I'll be seeing shitmat at a festival this summer. Aphex Twin too, but alas no Venetian Snares or Kid 606. A whole tent of madness http://www.gladefestival.com/littlebig.htm
-
I want to see the Pinback connection show, all the bands related to Pinback play and Pinback of course...3 Mile Pilot (they are coming back!), optigonally yours, thingy, heavy vegetable (both no more but they could do it somehow...), the solo projects, alpha males, and so on, but just relating to Zach and Rob since that will be enough already though sleeping people, Kenseth's band, is great and his older band Rumah Sakit aint bad either and the other related bands...just too many...
-
of course, knowing my luck, it would all degenerate into chaos when karl crisis throws a mike stand at the rise against kids for drinking in the green room. yeah, way to be a dick and ruin my fest karl.
That was hilarious.
Me? I just want to go to Hellfest or Pressurefest. They always have ri-goddamn-diculously good lineups.
-
Yeah, I wanted to go to Gladefest, but i'll be too busy with moving out (I hope) starting a new job (I hope) around that time, so I thought i'd wait until next year for glade action, besides, I don't do drugs and the notion of an entire room where basically 4/5ths of it will be full of pill heads is something that I need to be in the mood to enjoy, cause sometimes when I go to drum and bass nights, they just fuck me off.
-
Id love to go see Neutral Milk Hotel at one of the gigs where they didnt suck ass. (unlikely)
-
Me? I just want to go to Hellfest or Pressurefest. They always have ri-goddamn-diculously good lineups.
some friends of mine went to hellfest last year, and said it was the most fun they've had. i think there's a full arizona caravan that's planning on heading up to jersey this year. if so, i'm there.
and i'm not sure if i've ever heard of pressurefest. actually, i probably have, i've just forgotten it. where's it at?
oh, and to keep this on topic:
jawbreaker
DOA
the vandals
ann beretta
against me!
planesmistakenforstars
kill your idols
alkaline trio
yeah. makes me happy just thinkin' about it.
-
I'd go to that.
I could never make sucha list. I couldnt really see all my favourite bands/musicians at once. I figure the crowd would suck and I wouldnt I usually feel like certain type of music when I go see a show.
-
3 bands. Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention, The Residents, and Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. At the same time.
-
Last year I saw what at the time was my dream show. It was Rise Against and Bad Religion.
Now my dream show would be (in no particular order):
Bad Reigion
Rage Against the Machine
Rise Against
Propagandhi
Alkaline Trio
Led Zeppelin
Steppenwolf
Dropkick Murphys
Social Distortion
I'm going to see Rise Against and the Alkaline Trio for my birthday this year (fuck yeah!).
-
Mine is so painfully, painfully predictable that I nearly didn;t post it, but here goes -
Bright Eyes
The Faint
Interpol
The Arcade Fire
Smoosh
Rilo Kiley
Cursive (damn bands going on indefinite hiatus...grrrr)
Mirah
Trespassers William
Modest Mouse
The Dawn Parade
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Srokes
The Good Life (for added Kasher-ness)
Azure Ray
Tilly and the Wall
Le Tigre
I'd also ban those STUPID hats that people think are funny, and have food available for under £4. And nice loos.
-
I've said it before and I'll probably say it again: I'd go to that. And I'd kick people in the shins if they were wearing stupid hats. YAY!
-
The Flaming lips, The Unicorns, and Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd because theyd have one kick ass light show.
-
muffy, that is a great show, and a good call on the hats. unless they were napolean hats. then it's all good.
-
and i'm not sure if i've ever heard of pressurefest. actually, i probably have, i've just forgotten it. where's it at?
You probably haven't heard of Pressure Fest. It's one of the bigger hardcore festivals in Europe, held each year in Belgium, I think it is.
Otherwise, I am looking forward to Swedish specialty Deadfest in September.
-
Radiohead + Pink Floyd = yes.
couldn't really take any more than the two of them in one night. though.
-
ah, well then NO, i probably HAVEN'T heard of it. however, i'm still gonna try and get to hellfest this year, and that will make me happy happy happy.
-
Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene (actually, those two are performing together in Toronto :)), Arcade Fire, Coheed And Cambria, Flashlight Brown, Against Me!, Alexisonfire, Death From Above 1979, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Rise Against, Billy Talent, Goldfinger, and Millencollin... ... ... come to think of it... that would make for an awesome warped tour or something :P
-
Pavement
Just Pavement. The show would be too long and would be less fun overall if I filled it with other bands that I like. Maybe have Sebadoh open for them or something. Pavement in a relatively small venue would rock my world though.
-
Queen and Guns 'N Roses, simply because Axl Rose and Freddie Mercury are two of the greatest frontmen to have ever live*.
*this basically means just Queen, since Axl wouldn't show up.
-

-

-
Reunion Stage:
Neutral Milk Hotel
The Smiths
The Unicorns
At The Drive-In
Non-reunion Stage:
The Decemberists
The Blood Brothers
Aesop Rock
Radiohead
Arcade Fire
-
Khar's Festival is amazingly amazingful.
-
Aye, brings a whole new meaning to the word:
Owned
-
one of the lollapaloozas from the early/mid 90's, but not the one with Metallica
-
I was going to make it a whole two week affair, split up the folk and folk metal days, add a whole day of grind/brutal death and a whole day of decent old melo and prog-death, split up the symph black and true black days, maybe a two day history of hard rock starting off with the Rolling Stones and continuing to...ah crap. Rock is dead : (
Anyway, it was too much effort.
-
NEED NEW BODY
AND
LIQUID LIQUID
OPENING FOR
CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND THE MAGIC BAND.
f'real.
-
Without putting as much thought into it as Khar, my festival would probably include the following bands.. (in this order order)
Carpathian Forest
Demoncy
Horna
Behexen
Marduk
Kult Ov Azazel
Deathspell Omega
Watain
Sargeist
Tsjuder
Mütiilation
Corpus Christii
Nokturnal Mortum
Gontyna Kry
Von
Emperor
Absu
Averse Sefira
and co-headliners
Darkthrone
Venom
Mercyful Fate
NOTE: Some of my favorite bands I didn't list on this, since I think they probably wouldn't be the same in concert as on CD. . namely, suicidal black metal like Xasthur, Abyssic Hate, Krohm, etc..
-
What these festivals are lacking are locations. So with that in mind...
Day 1
An abandoned church which has nonetheless remained in immaculate condition is found. Time for an all-night squat party to kick things off!
Bilge Pump
Lightning Bolt
Like A Kind of Matador
Mohinder
Oxes
Guapo
Stalingrad
Nina Nastasia
Robert Johnson
John Coltrane
Submission Hold
The Melvins
Fugazi
Visuals will be the best surrealist films and DJs throughout the night will be Team Doyobi, DJ/Rupture and Autechre
Day 2
Having been run out of the church by the police we're a little miffed and flee to the 1in12 club in Bradford. Luckily, there's some good old mosh to be had.
Good Clean Fun
Chain of Strength
D.S. - 13
Driven Down
Imbalance
HHH (UK)
Rites of Spring
Fig 4.0
Slayer
At The Gates
Gorilla Biscuits
Ramones
Minor Threat
DJs will be a variety of drunk punks and anyone that has some tunes they want played.
Day 3
Upon exciting the club we find that a desert has appeared just outside of Bradford. Handily a bunch of crusties have luxurious stolen Winnebagos and massive generators, so it's time to get down in the sand after a good kip.
Leadbelly
Meat Puppets
Lucero
Magma
Red Stars Parade
Will Haven
Muddy Waters
Charlie Parker
Tarantula Hawk
MC5
Johnny Cash
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band
Kyuss
No DJs, but plenty of jazz, blues and rock being knocked out by people as they sit about watching the sun rise.
Day 4
Back into a city to lay our hands on yet another squatted venue, this time it's an underground car park. It's dark, grim, and the perfect setting for what's about to hit.
Jedi Mind Tricks
Urko
Anaal Nathrakh
Man Is The Bastard/Bastard Noise
Arab Strap
Acme
Dizzee Rascal
Wu-Tang Clan
Narcosis
Love Lost But Not Forgotten
Orchid
Dead Kennedys
Black Flag
Aphex Twin, Kid 606 and people spinning grind, noise and harsh music of all descriptions wind up the night.
Day 5
After that, a last day of much mellower feel is needed to round things off. So we adjourn to a field in some delightful woods and get our dancing shoes on.
All Girl Summer Fun Band
Billy Bragg (solo)
Mecca Normal
Black Eyes
The Sick Lipstick
Saetia
Manowar
Beat Happening
Pavement
Melt-Banana
AC/DC
Tom Waits
Minutemen
Man, I really am taking this work-avoidance to some lengths.
-
A Pack of Wolves has reminded me, one of my many ultimate ambitions in life is to buy an old church, mesh over the inside of the windows, install a murderously loud PA, a stage with the drum-stand on the desecrated altar, turntables up in the pulpit and rip out all the pews, then just hold some motherfuckingly awesome gigs in there.
-
They actually do hold amazing gigs in the Holy Trinity church here in Leeds. I saw Guapo, Circle, Jazzfinger, Birds of Delay and Like A Kind of Matador there, they all played up by the alter while the crowd sat in the pews. The atmosphere was incredible.
-
NEED NEW BODY

LIQUID LIQUID
OPENING FOR
CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND THE MAGIC BAND.
f'real.
This is the internet, and so I must say this:
I WANT TO HAVE YOUR BABIES ARRR
-
To the original poster of the topic:
I think it's pretty funny how your festival would have Children of Bodom and Lamb of God headlining with At The Gates being one of the "opening" bands.
-
ideally, i'd be able to get to germany and go to Mera Luna. that would be excellent. here's the lineup:
THE SISTERS OF MERCY / SKINNY PUPPY /VNV NATION / DEINE LAKAIEN
SUBWAY TO SALLY / HOCICO / THE KLINIK / DIARY OF DREAMS
LACUNA COIL / THE 69 EYES / THE CRÜXSHADOWS / MELOTRON
TRISOMIE 21 / SCHANDMAUL / COMBICHRIST / ZERAPHINE / NFD
THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE / AUTUMN / ATROCITY / AMDUSCIA
LEAVES EYES / FLESH FIELD / POTENTIA ANIMI / GÅTE / FAUN
KIEW / QNTAL / CEPHALGY / THE VISION BLEAK / [:SITD:]
THE NEON JUDGEMENT / OSIRIS TAURUS / SCREAM SILENCE
IN MITRA MEDUSA INRI / KLIMT 1918 / STAUBKIND / LIMBOGOTT
being that i'm a struggling artist/student and poor as one can possibly be without being completely broke, this isn't going to happen...would be nice though.
-

-
You just made a mistake. I have already compiled a dream festival using the live MP3s I have on my computer, from setlists to set lengths. So I'm just going to copy and paste.
1. I warn you, it's long.
2. I know it's incredibly sad and weird for me to have done this, but I'm pretty sure it's because of autism making me obsess over stuff like this, so please don't take the piss. I even have a fucking acoustic tent I'm that obsessed, because I had so many 'acoustic live version' MP3s.

Pavement
Just Pavement. The show would be too long and would be less fun overall if I filled it with other bands that I like. Maybe have Sebadoh open for them or something. Pavement in a relatively small venue would rock my world though.
Id love to go see Neutral Milk Hotel at one of the gigs where they didnt suck ass. (unlikely)
put your hand's together my friend. I mean really, that's all you need

Just one wish: to see the Mountain Goats again when both John Darnielle and I are feeling well. I saw the band in L.A. on the 14th, and while I think it was a good show nonetheless, I would love to see them in prime condition.
-
it looks more like people are just listing their favorite bands. But then again, that would make up their ideal concert, so bleh.

2. I know it's incredibly sad and weird for me to have done this, but I'm pretty sure it's because of autism making me obsess over stuff like this, so please don't take the piss. I even have a fucking acoustic tent I'm that obsessed, because I had so many 'acoustic live version' MP3s.
Actually, it's awesome. So awesome I shall do it.

Miune would be a bunch of bands and artists that I had never heard of before, but I thought were fucking awesome. There is no better way to discover new music than being blown away live.
Squarepusher (Iambic 5 Poetry/ Don't Go Plastic/ Going Acid/ Steinbolt/ Melenec/ Tundra 4/50 Cycles/ Iambic 9 Poetry)
I have seen him do Steinbolt live. Fuck me.
-
Hmmm I'd kill to get all dressed up all fancy like and see Decemberists, Neutral Milk Hotel, and the Flaming Lips perform an 8 hour set at the local theatre.

Going on the threads I've seen of what music you're into, I'm guessing your festival won't have an acoustic tent? Unless it's just Tom Leher playing for four hours straight.

Actually, of the four bands so far properly fixed up for my virtual festival, 2, including the headliner, are almost entirely acoustic, rendering such a consideration somewhat redundant. And I could easily fix up an acoustic tent from my favourite bands anyway. Many of them have released acoustic EPs or even LPs, and some of them are just acoustic. All of them have acoustic tracks. Bitching classical guitar and piano instrumentals are one of the hallmarks of European metal.

Well, shut me up.
I was actually pretty pleased when I got Bob Dylan: Live 1966 because one disc was entirely acoustic, so I had a proper headliner for the acoustic tent.

I'm not going to limit myself with silly things like "not putting bands there who aren't broken up" or "bands who were all in existence at one time." So, I'd want, in no particular order:
Swans (probably early, because damn, early Swans would be an unforgettable live experience. But any Swans would be great. So would the Angels of Light or Gira solo, for that matter.)
Sonic Youth (Confusion or Bad Moon-era)
Pixies (preferably pre-breakup, with lots of Bossanova and Come on Pilgrim songs, but I'm not complaining either way)
Ramones (Road to Ruin-era, with songs spread pretty evenly between their first four albums, preferably)
Television
The Velvet Underground (preferably around Nico era)
Big Black
