i always had a feeling that i got off to fugazi on the wrong foot. i purchased 'repeater + 3 songs' when i was 13, and over repeated listens, i still haven't been able to get into it. other reccomendations?

other reccomendations?
Mmm, it depends really. You might like End Hits. Or you might like 13 Songs. These were the first two I heard (13 songs, end hits. That order.)
Not quite the greatest as I don't tend to quantify the awesomeness of a band quite like so. It's more of a daily thing.
Older: Misson to Burma
Newerish: Modest Mouse

I have 13 songs, and for a band who are supposed to have created whole new realms of rock music, it sounds a bit mainstream and predictable. Sure, it's a bit odd sounding at times, but it didn't really strike me as anything special

Rather depends on what else you listen to. If you like things with a more jazzy tinge then End Hits is a good move. If you love indie rock then perhaps The Argument would be best. If you like something a little more abrasive then Red Medicine or In On The Kill Taker could be good to check out. If you didn't like Repeater then don't bother with 13 Songs, it's similar but more straightforward and not as good, and Steady Diet of Nothing is probably their weakest album. Those two are only worth getting if you're a big fan.

The Argument is rock solid.

for a band who are supposed to have created whole new realms of rock music...
Heh, I've always been curious who always goes around making these statements. It sounds like a statement from someone on a regular diet of LSD and possibly some mescaline.
I couldn't honestly explain why I like 13 songs the most other then maybe I like it's straightforward nature.
-
The Argument is rock solid.
Agreed. Buy it.
