About a month ago I first heard Morrisey and I thought he was pretty good. Only problem is 'm not a big fan of soft music, the only non-soft song of theirs that I was able to find was "English Blood, Irish Heart". It's been on every one of my playlists ever since and I'm wondering if they have any other songs I'd like.

My kind of topic!
Number one, Morrissey is a solo artist, not a band. He used to be with a band called The Smiths, so if you like his solo stuff, check them out.
So, I'm trying to figure out what you mean by soft/hard stuff. Going by things that sound like Irish Blood, English Heart...
Handsome Devil - The Smiths
How Soon Is Now - The Smiths
The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths
Just off the top of my head. Yeah, they're all Smiths songs. Moz is Moz, though.

Thanks, sorry about the artist/band mix up. I'll look up those songs.

About a month ago I first heard Morrisey and they're diffidently one of the best bands ever.
That's about one of the funniest things I've read for a while. Anyway, Morrissey solo is generally rubbish; Suedehead and Margaret On The Guillotine are quite good, and Everyday Is Like Sunday is, well, famous at least, if you don't like soft stuff you'll probably like Suedehead, The Smiths are where it's at really though.
Edit: Just so I know, was the 'diffident' deliberate or not?
-
if you like "irish blood english heart" there's some similar tracks on the same album..."the world is full of crashing bores", "i like you", etc. the name of the record's "you are the quarry".
the smiths are of course far and away awesome, but morrissey's back catalogue is worth getting into if you're a fan.
-
DISAPPOINTED. I thought the question was gonna be "what should I do about Morrissey?". To which I would have answered: "if you see him near some stairs, push him down them".
Right. Because he'd probably love you for it. But then I'd have to send you after him for ridding the world of a guy who I find incredibly entertaining. He's just so self-deprecating that I can't help but laugh.

The Boy With the Thorn in His Side

This brings up a question my roommate and I have been asking for awhile now. Is Morrissey serious? I believe all the Melodrama has to been tounge planted firmly in cheek or this guy would have offed himself years ago.
-
I agree - with stuff like 'heaven knows I'm miserable now' and 'I know it's over' you can't help but feel he's taking the piss out of the people who are going to listen to it and go 'wow, that's so true, it's like he's talking ABOUT MY LIFE' in that emo fashion - he's more wit than misery, and The Smiths were a sort of social commentary band...
or maybe the Richard E Grant of music.
-
'Heaven Know I'm Miserable Now' is very obviously not serious, I mean, just listen to the music: jangly upbeat pop type stuff. I don't think 'I Know It's Over' is taking the piss though, at all.
-
"what should I do about Morrissey?"
"if you see him near some stairs, push him down them".
He'd write a song about it. You know he would. Self-depreciating lyrics and a little moping, backed up by some slightly distorted electric guitar and a string section.
Here I was, just standing there
And a fellow pushed me down some stairs
And I guess I did deserve it
But my neck, he kind of hurt it

Oh, what a misleading topic.
I thought you were crying out for help, realize that you have fallen in to the evil grasp of morresey. Apparently you actually *like* it though, so there really isnt any hope for you, and no help we can offer.
-
Moz isn't actually as OMG ANGST PAIN as most people think he is. A lot of his songs are really tongue-in-cheek. He's said that he used to be seriously depressed, and still is to some extent, and so some of the songs are serious, but he's not the oh angst death cries forever type. If you read interviews with him, he's actually a pretty funny guy.

This had me trying not to laugh and wake up other people up while trying not to spit ale on the computer, bastard. This is the first time I've seen you appolgize!
The Tree People do a pretty good Smiths cover. The one that mentions Joan of Arc burning and wossnots.

"Bigmouth, la la la, ah ah
Bigmouth, la la la laaaa"
-
Hey, like the sig says.
Choclate love, all.
-

Quite; I especially enjoy his "fiercely political side."
-
Now, there's a can of worms waiting to be opened...
*thinks back to the skinheads/bnp/morrissey debacle that ostracised him from the press ten years ago*
Or to be kept shut. I hate worms anyways.

That's the kind of stuff I hate, but all the songs I've heard from the smiths seem the same way, maybe I just picked a bad bunch?

Wait, you think "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" sounds like "I Know It's Over"? Are you crazy?!
-
Man, I am a dick for coming into this thread and being all "Morrissey sucks!", sorry everyone.
Dammit James, don't let me be the only unrepentant Morrissey despiser left in this forum! Stay strong, man, stay strong!

"If a double decker bus crashed into us, to die by your side, would be a wonderful way to die." (approx.)
I mean seriously, what the fuck?
-
That's my favourite lyric ever. Seriously.
"If a double-decker bus crashes into us, to die by your side is such a heavenly way to die."
-
"And if a ten-ton truck kills the both of us, to die by your side, well, the pleasure, the privilege is mine."
<3 Morrissey so much.
