So, does anyone here apart from me actually like Rammstein?
I got into them just after Mutter was released, when I was first getting into contemporary music rather than just plundering my dads record collection. My tattered and battered special edition copy of Mutter still sits proud in my CD collection. It's combination of hard-rockingness, industrial and the odd classical influence has undoubtedly had somewhat of an effect on my subsequent taste in music.
So, anyway, who does actually like them? What's your favourite CD/song?*
Also, anyone else here seen them live? I've got to say, that I don't think I will ever see a band who can touch them for showmanship.
And their videos are amazing.
* Mutter/no clue.

Du
Du HAST!
-
I dont know them all that well (soft indie kid and all that), but I have fond memories of being in a car, driving across the Severn Bridge with Rammstein blaring on repeat for the whole journey. That was fun, in a perverse kind of way.
Good music for traffic jams.
-
Got the Mutter album... heard about them because of Du Hast being on the soundtrack for The Matrix.... favourite CD is obviously therefore Mutter, and my favourite song... Speiluhr, unless I'm in a major depressive mood in which case it's Nebel.
-
Speiluhr is great.
My personal favourite from Mutter is probably Adios. A great headbanger.
Good to see not everyone is totally concentrating on the first, single-filled part of the album.

I have halways seen Rammstein as just about the only metal band with a hint of self-irony, in other words I like them. Though I have a slight feeling that it would be tiredsome to listen to a whole album by them, but perhaps I should try the new one Reise, Reise, any opinions about that one?
-
I can't answer the question regarding Reise, Reise... but I always found Rammstein to be fifty times better when listening to the album. Seperate tracks just don't give the same effect, somehow.
-
Rammstein aren't a metal band. But I would recommend Mutter or Sehsnucht. Reise, Reise isn't a bad album imo, just arranged poorly, it doesn't flow well.
-
I listen to Rammstein every now and then. Mostly because of that heavier riff I'd guess.
-
I've got Mutter and Sehnsucht. I had Herzeleid, but I found it boring and same-old-same-old after the second listen, so I sold it.
Although everyone I've ever mentioned this to disagrees, I have a soft spot for the cover of Stripped that got whacked on the end of Sehnsucht. From Mutter, Adios is great, Mein Herz Brennt and Sonne are melodic in a sense and pleasant to listen to, and Ich Will makes me want to be at a concert.
-
Rammstein is pretty frickin' awesome. i don't have any of their cd's, but i wish i did.
-
not to boast about it, but i haven known rammstein since before their first album came out. till lindemanns half-brother was a room-mate when i was at the armed forces. i have and like every single album, each for its own reasons.
-
I LOVE RAMMSTIEN...they are awsome...my dad went to see them Live...im so gutted about it but he said it was cool...my dad is cool :D
-
i can't really get in to them, dude. i like sonne, mostly for that awesome video, and they are meant to be fucking INSANE live, but yeah, not really my cup of tea.
-
Rammstein is awesome and Adios is the best song ever*.
*By Rammstein.

I've been a fan of Rammstein off and on ever since Sehnsucht. They're one of those bands that I really like, but only really listen to on occasion, and am in fanboyish mode for when their new albums come out.
I remember I got Mutter 2 days after it came out, and me and 2 of my friends in high school all bought it at the same time, and were all listening to it at the same time. We would listen to it over and over throughout the day, and when we would pass each other in the halls, we would ask what song the other was listening to. :)
My favorite songs are Wolt Ihr Das Bett In Flammen Sehen, Seemann, Moskau, and Engel.
*thumbs up*

For some reason, I find Rammstein to be utterly tedious, although most of my friends love them... I think it's the angry german vocal that just feels too annoying and distracting to me for me to enjoy the music. I think vocals should flow along with the music rather than overshadow it completely, which is the case with them, IMHO.
-
Feuer Frei!
Yeah i have been listening to it... For several years?
I like it. *Smash, Bang, BLAM!*
-
I think it's the angry german vocal that ... overshadow it completely
well, you just found out the concept. ;) no really.
they are meant to sound angry and heavy and especially on the first album it was the main goal..
-
My first taste of Rammstein was with "Sonne", so when I brought "Mutter" I was pleasantly surprised.
I can't honestly say there's a song of them that I dislike, or that I'll skip. my favourites, though, are Spieluhr, Links 2,3,4, Keine Lust and Amerika
sadly, i lost my copy of Sehnsucht ages ago, and can barely remember it.
-
i likes rammstein.. my first listen was a cd red's boyfriend made with some stuff from Mutter and some from Sehnsucht.. now i have Reise, Reise Herzeleid and all of Sehnsucht. i like how it doesn't all sound *exactly* the same.. tis cool

My German friend told me that not many people actually like them in Germany because all their lyrics just dont make sense at all... But that just could be him...
Then he did this awesome version of Du Hast that was just so funny...
I like singing that to embarrass my friend on the street... Eventually it just becomes me saying nothing in particular...
But yeah I have no real opinion on them as I haven't really heard much except for that and seen the new video which is pretty clever...
I'll just stick my opinion in the not my cup of tea bracket.
-
I heard "Du Hast" in like grade five. I loved it.
P.S. My German friend thinks Rammstein are awesome. He enjoys "Amerika."
-
because all their lyrics just dont make sense at all...
thats not really true. their lyrics are strange... usually they sing about sexual stuff (or at least stuff that can be interpreted that way), perversion (they made a song about a german cannibal from his point of view. its called "mein teil") and generally everything that shocks or at least polarises. "amerika" for instance is full of images, although it sounds like a praise it is meant (and understood) as a critique on the current politics of the american government.
i guess, some people just dont understand the background of the lyrics wich leads them to believe that the lyrics dont make sense...
-
the new album "Reise Reise" kinda sucks except for "Keine Lust" , "Mein Teil" and "Los".
esspecially "Los" is a kinda original song, but the rest sucks
-
What about Amerika and Moskau? Those two at least are unarguably great.
-
dumb moment: Some program on British TV called them a death metal band and then started a rumor they were going to collaborate with Aqua. This was years ago when I mostly only listened to The Offspring.
-
aqua... that dumb swedish dance band?
-
The one where the lead singer DIED five years ago?
-
I actually first heard of Rammstein by a goth friend of mine a while back. I listened to Sonne and it freaked me out so I never listened to it again. But recently, another friend of mine saw that I had it and made me put it on a cd for her. So I did. Then I listened to Sonne again and loved it. I'm really into Rammstein now. They're even on a bookmark I made for my copy of Hitchhiker's Guide. Oh yes. I am hardcore. But anyways, my favorite song is Links 2 3 4. Gotta love the stomping. Rammstein did a cd with t.A.T.u which is really just a bunch of remixes. Good music though.
-
I likes live DVD recordings, if you do too then you should do yourself a favour and pick up Rammsteins one, very uh, Manson, just scaled back (no naked dancers getting dirty with drumsticks)
-
Rammstein live > All
I saw them back in February on the Reise, Reise tour.
My God.
I think they achieved showmanship nirvana during Seeman (sailor) when one of the guitarists took off his trousers to reveal a pair of swimming trunks, then the roadies (who were all dressed like Michael Douglas from Falling Down) threw an inflatable dinghy on top of the crowd, into which he jumped, before rowing it round and round the mosh-pit.
-
Rammstein indeed does = win...
I don't see why everyone IS against Reise Reise... someone mentioned that it doesn't flow well, and that is true (I mean, going from Stein Um Stein into Ohne Dich... wtf?!), but it is a mighty good album nonetheless... standouts for me on it: Moskau, Stein Um Stein, and Keine Lust... as for the rest of the Rammstein repertoire, Sonne (the video for which introduced me to Rammstein), Feuer Frei! and Du Hast are favs...
And fuck if du hast isn't way too catchy
-
I don't mind the music so much, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.
I got into them from the Lost Highway soundtrack, but never was interested enough to buy an album.
I also have such a hatred for them because I got so sick of this conversation:
Random Person: "So what kind of music do you listen to?"
(loaded question that starts a 4 hour conversation)
Me: "...(blah...blah)... and a little german industrial."
RP: "Oh, like Rammstein?"
grrr..

I sadly missed seeing Rammstein live while I was in Europe-- and my teacher trainer had even offered to go with me and my friends, which I thought was hilarious. Unfortunately, being in Europe also made me sick to death of Amerika because the video for it was on ALL the time. Moskau I still enjoy though.
Favorite song = Engel. My friend Rob studied while listening to this song on endless repeat for 6 hours straight. He whistled the beginning while taking his final and claims all the information came to him right away, because it was tied to the song. He finished his test, flipped it over, and wrote "I am Batman" on the back.
-
Getting to like them, enjoyed Reise Reise, will investigate Mutter. I prefer the more rocky ones to the more opera tinged ones. Actually, I think my Mix CD had Rammstein on it.
-
Rammstein is awesome! I was introduced to Du Hast about 4 years ago by a friend who heard it on the radio in Colorado. For a brief period my friends and I were obsessed with them during our journey from being radio friendly rock fans to being metalheads. On a 14 hour road trip we made 3 years ago when I was sixteen, we listened to Sehnsuct over and over, because it was the only thing we could agree on. I think I heard the whistling from Engel in my sleep.
I'd say Reise, Reise might be my favorite disc with my favorite songs being Reise, Reise, Moskau, Dur riechst so Gut, Engel, and maybe the cover of Depeche Mode's Stripped on Sehnsuct. You're not the only one, elcapitan!
-
Feuer Frei = Schweet.
-
i like rammstein. their translated lyrics are a bit ridiculous... gotta love 'bestrafe mich' though...
deine grosse macht mich klein, du darfst mein bestrafe sein...
your size makes me small. you may be my punisher. great.
-
I was first exposed to Rammstein about 6 years ago with Herzeleid, loved it, been picking up the other albums gradually since then. Not as much a fan of the newer stuff, but i do like Los, the very first bit to keine lust off of the latest album.
Got to see them live a couple of years ago which rocked, awesome stage show. The dvd that's out is about the same as the gig that i saw, except they went out in a little inflatable boat and crowd surfed.
Fave Track : Rammstein from Herzeleid
-
At least their attempt at english isn't as bad as FunkerVogt.
I'll give them credit for that.
-
My friend really likes them so I got to know them through him. Some songs I like.
