I think the Faint is one of my favorite bands. I love music like that and was hoping to find more bands like them. Any recomendations?
-
uhm! of the new new york dance revival.
noting the rapture, moving units, dfa and their cronies lcd soundsystem, interpol. maybe even early liars.
actually. check out:
lcd soundsystem. they have an album now, but listen to "losing my edge" it's great.
interpol. i never liked interpol, but the earlier album is better. you might like it.
the rapture. the rapture were great. listen to echoes "house of jealous lovers" does a good job of defining the genre.

The song "Headfull of Pills" by the Prima Donnas is at least as good as the best Faint songs.
-
Hehe, The Faint are awesome! woah, woah, woah, erection.
I kinda progressed from The Bravery to The Faint, I don't see listening to The Bravery as them being like The Faint, buuuut, they make SOME good stuff.
-
The Faint are the best band, ever. Period.
Stuff that's not exactly like them, but you may like (aswell as what's been mentioned) -
Soulwax (the new stuff especially, songs like E-talking)
Peaches
Miss Kittin and the Hacker
Felix da Housecat
Ellen Allien
Fischerspooner's first album. The new one is a crock of shite, though.
Surferosa
Broken Spindles (Joel from The Faint's other project - a lot more mellow, but good)
Aw, and Some Incriminating Photographs by the Faint has just come on. Nice.

Wow! I don't think I've ever come across someone who wasn't me talking up the Prima Donnas. But that song and (Dancin' In The) Freaky Zone are way better than the Faint, who I have to say leave me a little bit cold. But I can imagine a fan of the Faint liking the Prima Donnas so check them out.
-
Thanks for the bands, I'll check em out.
-
I have heard none of these bands ('cept for Interpol).
Can someone give more examples of what The Faint sound like? (I don't have a sound card and I'll be seeing them in a few weeks)
-
the faint are my guilty pleasure...
i'm not sure how to describe them, or who to compare them too
my friends call them 'euro trash techno' and i completly disagree...
passthebottle: if you're seeing them on tour with Bright Eyes (as i am) they'll get the crowd up and dancy right before Conor knocks them down

Thanks to me beetch, i saved your ass.
Although that 'Hot Pursuit' song is undeniably rocking.

Hehe...The Faint are the reason I forked out £26 for a ticket to that gig, but it's the first gig I've paid money for in about a year, so I don't feel so bad...
But seriously, I haven't seen a better live band than them - it's impossible to go to one of their shows and not dance, or smile, or generally feel great.
So it'll be interesting to see them with Bright Eyes... ;)

Awesome! Yeah, aside from "Worked Up So Sexual," I'm not really a huge fan of the Faint. The Prima Donnas are a lot more fun, and a lot more ridiculous. Have you heard Gene Defcon's solo album? "Liz" and "Frankenstein" are two of my favorite songs ever.

The Faint are synthrock- that's the most common term I've heard describing them. It's not too far off oldschool industrial sounds in spirit, blending guitars and vocals with synth and machine. The aim and tone is different, methods not so much so.
As far as bands to reccommend, I'm not sure what to tell you. Most other synthrock bands I know of take a very different tack. I personally listen to The Faint for their amazing bestever bass lines. :)
-
yeah im seeing them with Bright Eyes (alone! how emo is THAT!)
Dancey? Like Hot Hot Heat? I liked Hot Hot Heat way back when and all these people who hated them like thier new album cause it's 'totally different than the old shit'. Someone just gave me the cd last night and I haven't gotten a chance to hear it yet.
If they're anything like the old HHH then I'll love it.
-
Elevator sounds like an extension of Make up the Break down.
It's awesome, but not anything new.
The first HHH CD was utter garbage and sounded like it was recorded on my IBM thinkpad's microphone.
-

Digital Ash is a little less depressing than IWAIM, innit? So the Faint should funk it up.
-
Faint and International Noise Conspiracy always kinda seem similar.
-
On the HHH tangent:
I listend to the album at work yesterday and my conclusion:
One: It sounds just like thier old shit so these people who told me different are insane.
Two: It totally rocks.
-
Hmm...I dont know about bands exactly like the Faint, but some bands I put on the same playlist: Piney Gir, TV on the Radio and Tom Vek.

Thanks to this thread, I have discovered and fallen in love with LCD Soundsystem.
Cheers!
That is all :D

Definitely Soulwax. Definitely. So good. The Faint may well be better, but Soulwax are very very cool too.
