Think about it... really and truly, there isn't enough of the jew thang going on in the metal scene. Not jewish like religion. I mean jewish music. Klezmer and shit. Theres almost every other type of metal if you know where to look. But what the hell.
-
Sure, it could happen. The question is, is it really necessary?
Similarly, is Polka Metal really that good of an idea? How about folkdustrial? Or nu metal?
-
Lol. It's just an idea me and some of my friends had. We can't really decide on anything else to do. So we think that would work. Polka metal is funny shit. Folk metal too. Finntroll are all "graaaowwwwllll (violin harmonizing with guitar) cheap female choir more groooowaaaaaalssss"
No, it's not nevessary. But there is no such thing as neccesity for anything except food and shelter. We don't really need music at all. But we still play it! Also, if you play an instrument, imagine how fun that would be to play. For all instruments. That's one of the good parts; no member gets left in the dark.

Like any genre fusion, it could really go one of two ways...really amazingly good, or really painfully awkward. I seriously have heard folk-industrial fusion stuff (I don't remember the band name, so don't ask me) and it was absolutely painful. Then again, I've heard some other fusiony stuff that just blew me away. I'd have to hear a sample before passing final judgement, I suppose.
Then again, if the main purpose is to just have fun playing it, who cares about how it sounds? I've messed around with some discordant stuff with friends and it's a hell of a lot of fun, even though half the time it sounds like a train wreck.

Get rid of the metal component - NOW you're talking!
(Man, Khar's gonna kick my arse so hard for that comment . . .)

I make 10 second techno country loops and my friend Weylin does corny ass spoken word about this one asian kid named Ichiro over it. Good times. Digidelay pedals provide for hours of entertainment in a house with no TV.
(EDIT) P.S. Thank you, australlian guy! Um... I don't think straight klezmer would go over so well with our bass player who listens to nothing but metal. Wellm metal and jazz fusion, but that's no help. We wouldn't stick to klezmer either. We'd probably cover some Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff and maybe some ELP and the drummer and I both can write a little decent prog. So yeah.

They say crack kills. Just something to consider, you know.
-
We're not crackheads, we're just Topangans. Well, me anyways. Weylin's a crackhead.

It's okay. There are worse drugs than crack. Like lithium.

Of course this can be done. Salem released Kaddish, what, eleven years ago now? Damn decent record, I'd imagine what you're thinking of would sound something like their cover of HaŽayara BoŽeret.
My only problem with Salem is that they've been singing about essentially one theme: That is, the suffering of the Jews, for about 20 years now.

The suffering of the Jews is an eternal theme.

This is slightly unrelated, but Franz Ferdinand had a song which was basically ripped off a Jewish hymn of some sort. I think it was Matinee?
-
Possible. I dunno, I make it a point to avoid listening to Franz Ferdinand, for the obvious reasons.
-
I can't really blame you.
On topic though, I'm all for hybrids of music, so long as it doesn't turn out rubbish.
-
Hasn't John Zorn been releasing klezmer metal for years, too?
-
good klezmer metal will sound good, bad klezmer metal will sound bad. the only genre guaranteed to suck is reggea prog-core, and the only genre guranteed to rock is post-industrial thrash-core. anything else, it's about the songs themselves, and not the label you attach to them.
EDIT: it reads the way it's sposed to. rock on!
-
At first this seemed like a good idea... But i realized that maybe one band could ever pull it off, and several hundred would KILL the entire genre. I vote no, as it could be good, but wouldn't be and therefore should be avoided.
-
I think it would be awesome, if done well.
Orphaned Land is an Israeli band that has been doing Middle Eastern/Jewish metal for quite some time, although they just got really serious with their last release.
-
I'm not jewish, so it's not a Jewish pride thing. I just love music, isaac (the violinist) loves klezmer, oliver (bass) loves metal, and phobo is the best drummer in history (for his age...). Ever.
Plus: How fucking rad does Klezmetal (as a music type) sound? I could say it all day: Klezmetal, Klezmetal, Klezmetal. Hava Nagila at a billion speed with massive violin and guitra thrashing and enough double bass to knock Mike Portnoy unconcious for a month.
-
Rent the movie Dummy there is a Klezmer Metal fusion at the end of the movie.
-
Try Aaron Alexander's Midrash Mish Mosh for some thrash klezmer.
Audio Samples (http://www.aaronalexander.com/MidrashSamples.htm). "Kleyzmish Moshpit" in particular.

Not really. He did do Pain Killer with Mick Harris from Napalm Death, but that was more jazz-ish than anything else. It was him on alto sax, Bill Laswell on bass and Mick Harris on drums.
