Best Led Zeppelin song?
-
personally its black dog
-
I know this is typically blasphemy but I'm not much of a Zep fan. Classic rock just was never my personal bag.
-
HEATHEN! well not really...but i guess its my dad's fault but Zep are cool as are Wishbone Ash and the Who and all of them...anyway...if you don't like Zep don't post...this is about the opinion on the best Zep song its not for people who don't care one way or another...actually is kinda is a roundabout way...i like roundabouts ^_^
-
I went through a 3 year phase where I listened to 95% Led Zeppelin, 5% other classic rock.
I know everything about them. Anyway- probably That's The Way
-
Achilles' Last Stand. The 10/4 breakdown is so, so tasty.
-
It's so nice to see no "Stairway to Heaven" on here. Jesus I hate that song.
Not much of a Zep fan myself, because Zappa is 980% cooler.
-
Dazed and Confused and Whole Lotta Love are two of my favorites... it is hard to say though, because I love most of their material.
-
The motherfuckin' Immigrant Song!!!!
OOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHH!!!
-
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" or "In the Light", the latter of which no one has ever heard, because "Kashmir" is the only song off Physical Graffiti anyone seems to care about.
-
Travelling Riverside Blues, Gallows Pole, Over The Hills And Far Away, and Achilles' Last stand are my favs... got ev'ry album on vinyl :) That's how you listen to the Zep
-

Speaking of songs that nobody has ever heard, No Zeppelin fan I've met has ever heard of the Song 'Tangerine' off of Led Zeppelin 3.

Really? Thats a priority 2 on my playlist.
-
Tangerine is probably my fav zep song. I get drunk and play it on acoustic guitar at parties.
That's The Way and The Ocean are also great songs, but any zeppelin record you throw on has at least a couple of good ones.
-
Tangerine is pretty awesome, if not a little depressing.
One of my favorites "Going to California."
-
Black Dog is the first thing that comes to mind for me, cause I love it as an opener. When it just busts into Plant with "Heyyyyy mama said the way you move..." it just rocks so hard.
-
Life of Agony does a great cover of "Tangerine".
-

JOE'S GARAGE RULES MY WORLD..but i still love Zep...especially when people argue over the meanings of the symbols

ditto on that. i forget how good that whole record is sometimes...until i put it on and remember - it's just so heavy.
battle of evermore is my personal favorite.
-
hmmm, misty mountain hop orrrr heartbreaker
ive only recently "discovered" em
my dad lent me all his led zep L.P's
:D
-
Fuck individual songs, The way zep played live shows everything flowed seamlessly the gods of thunder writhing and soaring in a druggy haze of mountanious blues pushed to 11, Thats right people 11!!!!
I love robert plants lyrics, Dramatic nonsense that had every greasy 70's teen (aka your parents) trying to build there own personal faith on the houses of the holy LP.
If only there were still people out there with the balls to create that kind of energy. *sigh*
-
Never dug Zepplin, really. "Immigrant Song" is pretty okay-good.
-
Man, I haven't listened to zepplin in ages. I like No Quarter myself, the stuff they do with the synthesizers especially the bass part always gets me. I just found a copy of IV on vinyl that doesn't look like its a frisbee. Have to try it out tomorrow. Also, Trampled Underfoot rules.
-

I assure you there are, just look a bit harder. True, there aren't really any bands with that sort of energy big enough to do stadiums anymore, which is a shame.
And is that a Serenity Rose reference in your signature? Let me worship unto thee if it is.
-
Quite hard choice, to be frank.
My personal favourite is probably D'yer Maker. I don't know why but I think it's really nice, even though it's quite different from the rest of their stuff.
Runners up in no particular order would be: Heartbreaker, Immigrant Song (OOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHH!!! indeed, sir kharbevnor), Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You, Black Dog, Rain Song (is it really called that? I've only got a shady mp3), Rock & Roll, Communication Breakdown, Whole Lotta Love, all their long live extravaganzas, everything else.
-
I'm big on Over the Hills
I'm inclined to think Going to California might be the best song from IV
but if I had a band, I would totally cover Fool in the Rain (maybe that's what your thinking of, Akbar?)
-
The motherfuckin' Immigrant Song!!!!
OOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHH!!!
Fuck yeah, kitten vikings.
-

HEHE
Black Dog, or Immigrant Song.
Over the Hills and Far away is good
Kashmire is good
No Quarter is good

Maybe, But zep was just huge, A force of nature if you will.
Thanks for the salute on the sig, Its referencing The band Alexisonfire (http://www.theonlybandever.com) And yes Serenity Rose (http://www.heartshapedskull.com) Both ironically share the heart shaped skull logo. I have an alexisonfire hoodie with the heart/skull logo and people always confuse it with SR.
-
I was told the name was meant to be Alexis-on-fire as opposed to Alex-is-on-fire, if you know what I mean.
-
Black fucking Dog. Hands down.
But Dazed and Confused, the Immigrant Song, D'yer Maker, Over the Hills, Going to California, Whole Lotta Love, Kashmir, and When the Levy Breaks also rock very hard. Led Zeppelin everything=aural happiness.
-
Bring it on Home. duh.
Speaking of led zeppelin, check out this month's spin, in which you can find a list of '9 things you can do during the drum solo in moby dick.'
My favorite:
-Listen to all 21 songs on the Locusts' debut album. Go to the bathroom.
-
For their ability to make it long, and powerful as hell live, I'd have to say The Ocean. Off of CD? Immigrant Song. Acousticer song off CD? Going To California.
Was it just to day some dumb bitch in my 7th period said: "Why don't you like Stairway to Heaven? That's, like, Led Zeppelin's best song. He is soooo good." I love that. People so stupid they think Zep was one person. This is LA, home of the asshole elitist smartass pigfuckers.
-
...Who like Stairway to Heaven. Thought I'd add that in, since I detest that song.
also..
OOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAHHHH!!!-Indeed.
-
I was told the name was meant to be Alexis-on-fire as opposed to Alex-is-on-fire, if you know what I mean.
Off-topic but yeah im aware i just like random capitalization blame the hyperactive disorder if you will, Ive heard the name has its origins in a lactating contortionist stripper named alexis fire. Hence why i love them.
-

I like that song actually.
-
Comparing two Zeppelin songs is often like comparing a Pink Floyd song to an AC/DC song. Zeppelin had no clue what genre they were playing in (which I think was totally awesome, and I think more bands need to do that), so many of their songs are completely uncomparable. I mean, ,how can you compare No Quarter to Dyer Maker to Bron-y-aur Stomp to Black Dog? You can't.
-
kashmir. honestly.
-
What's the song called that goes
"Oh, oh oh oh, oh oh... you don't have to go, oh oh oh, oh oh.."
Reggae sounding.
???
-
What, D'yer Ma'ker? Yes. Reggae? Quoi?
Yeah, genre bendings are the shit. If you want to hear the most genre-bending band in modern music, check out Mephiskapheles.
-
thank you! that's been killing me
-

Or Mr. Bungle, or most of anything with Patton in it...
Back on topic though, Stairway To Heaven is a fucking amazing song. It's just not their best in my humble opinion.
-
Most of the stuff I listen to is genre bending, so I'll stay out, just with the caveat to say that Kristoffer Rygg (Aka Garm aka Trickster G.) totally and utterly blows Patton out the water with everything he's done (Arcturus, Borknagar, Ulver) and Andreas Hedlund, aka Vintersorg's not far behind him.
But yeah. IMMIGRANT SONG!!!!
-
I'd have to say my favourite song of theirs HAS to be Ten Years Gone.
-
personally its black dog
I NEVER liked that riff. No one seems to notice the INEXCUSABLE tempo slip. Page really dropped the ball when he tried to play so many notes at once. Luckily, he learned restraint during his carreer.
Best song? That's a tough one.
-
i always thought that hitch in the riff was intentional.
-
Nope never liked Led Zepplin. They're boring. Even John Bonham who was a wicked ass drummer thought a 20 minute drum fill = entertainment.
-

Ditto, I figured why would they end up putting it on an album if it was fucked up?
-

Bonham wasn't a great drummer. All he did was hit the set really hard. I never liked Moby Dick, either. There's a reason why people don't like pretentious progressive music.
As for them being boring? I wouldn't say that. They actually had VARIETY. Something most metal/hard rock bands lack.
And as for the riff, intentional or not, I still think it sucks. It's no excuse. Tempo slips are unforgivable and are the reason people use restraint in their guitar playing. As one of the members of Mock Orange once said: "If you can play 6 notes and make it sound cool, it's a lot more effective than playing as many notes as fast as you can."
-
^ What the hell are you talking about. That's a tight riff. If the 'tempo slip' was inexcusable why was it done the same way on ever repetition of the riff and why did the drums follow it exactly? It's just groove, ffs. The riff wouldn't sound as good without it.
-
Ramble on, Trampled under foot and No Quarter
-

The drums DON'T follow it exactly. Bonham does the same thing over and over. Mabe it's because I've been trained as a percussionist, but the way it sounds when he tries to croud that many notes into one little space sounds very annoying and odd to me.
Besides, they do it differently in the How The West Was Won.
-
Wasn't this thread about which song you think was best? And not "hate on the song other people feel is the best?" ;)
Anyway... I like it, it never felt awkward, I didn't even consider the possibility it was a mistake til you started ranting.
