k. quick question. How many of you guys plan on going to warped tour? I know im goin.
-
Yes.
But unfortunately my most favorite prozac punk band evar Millencolin won't be at the Milwaukee show. Lame.
-
Going... mostly to make fun of the emo kids... and also to see the Translpants
-
Actually... here's the bands I look forward to seeing:
Transplants
Offspring (fun to watch)
Dropkick Murphys (YES!)
Thrice
Protest The Hero
there's the good bands of the Barrie Show.. I'm really quite disappointed the Alexisonfire and Billy Talent aren't slated to perform at Molson Park... for all those who live near Toronto, I say this... Edgefest on Canada Day will be better
-
Oh man,, do you go to the protest shows? I've been to a couple. We've probably been at the same show once or twice.
But yes, yes I will be at Warped...SUCKAS!
-
Yeah... there was a Protest show in TO at the Comfort Zone (second person through the door, I was, right after my friend), and there was a show at the Polish hall in Oshawa not too long ago (but I missed it :()
Ooh... and on my list of good bands at Warped in Barrie: Millencollin (forgot to mention that)
I find it very odd that My Chemical Romance is playing on the same stage as Dropkick, Transplants... and right before Offspring... hrm... weird
-
i'll probably be at the Barrie show... i like shopping for merch
-
Neither Bad Religion nor Flogging Molly will be there...Go Betty Go, My Chemical Romance, and Story of the Year WILL be there...so you won't catch me within 20 miles of it.
-
Heehee, man, if either of you see me, feel free to say hello! That would be so awesome! I think you kids now what I look like, considering I'm the resident camera whore in the picture thread.
I'm looking forward to Thrice, Gatsby's American Dream, Hot Rod Circuit, Motion City Soundtrack, Big D, and Tsunami Bomb. Hopefully all those bands are gonna be at Barrie. Knowing my friend, I'll probably get dragged to a couple I don't want to see as well!
-

So you're missing Strung Out, Thrice, MxPx, the Bled, Alexisonfire, Strike Anywhere, the Explosion, and Bedouin Soundclash because you're too scene to go to such a commercial enterprise like Warped?
And you're not going?
Where's the downside?
-
NOOOOOO!! I just found out three of the bands I listed aren't going to be at Warped and MCS are first up so I'll probably miss them......I'm so sad. Fucking...everything.

Dude, he's right though. Those bands royally suck.
-
I'm not going to that place not because "OMG IM 2 SEEEENE FOR U HO" but because the bands (that I've heard) suck.
Oh yeah, and I'm 14 with lack of funds. I'm sticking to the 9:30 club. XP
-
I would only want to go to see Millencolin (who I've never seen before and feel I should eventually) and Big D, who I wouldn't feel about missing because everytime they play in Jersey, I'm there. So theres really no motivation for me to spend money and drive there.
-
I'll probably go. I already know I've got the day off, and there are a few bands on there I'd absolutely love to see. Of course, then you have the bands that could possibly render me into a state of complete paralysis. In a really, really, really bad way.
Eh, now I just have to find someone willing to drive a couple hours out there with me.
-

Hey... I like Alexis... and Billy Talent is good (well, the sound was shit at last year's warped tour... but other live performances by them have been good... also, they had Flashlight Brown selling merch for them... best part was when I got Flashlight's autographs)
But yes, skibas... I shall see you at warped... rawk on (I'm the dude with longish hair and emo-glasses [which I've had for three and a half years... before they were emo :|] standing next to the tall skinny japanese kid, who beats up emo kids)
-
So, you'll look like half the kids there! Aw, I kid, hopefully, I'll get a nice surprise and meet people from the forum!
Yah, last year I kinda wanted to stay for Billy Talents set, but my friend dragged me to by Boys Night Out merch. Although I did catch The Planet Smashers (orgasmic), Bouncing Souls (double orgasmic) Co&Ca (not a fan, but I was there for the nostalgia...but I spent most of that half hour chain smoking at the side), Thursday (meh) as well as others I can't recall off the top of my head. I was filthy by the end of the day and I LOVED IT!
-
All the bands I know on that list I hate or have seen (sometimes both), so no, I wouldn't go.
I also live in the UK, of course...
But I mean, I thought warped was like, punk. I see hardly any of what I would call punk on that list, which probably just means my definition of punk is stuck comfortably sometime in the eighties.
-
hehehe... last year was awesome... my favourites:
Billy Talent
Alexisonfire (got kicked in the back of the leg, and almost had my jaw broken in the mosh pit... my jaw is still messed up)
Bad Religion (pure awesome)
Anti-Flag (one of my friends was given the drumsticks, by the drummer)
and god knows booing through the Good Charlotte set was fun, as was mocking the 13 year old GC fangirls
and there was ass-loads of cool merch... I musta dropped $150 on stuff...
EDIT: and the difference between me and the emo-kids is that a) I'll be wearing a Protest The Hero shirt, and b) I'll be beating the hell out of them
-

Not to start a flamewar, but I disagree profoundly.

I was at Alexis, my friend was trying to protect me, but it wasnt working. I was the chick in the bright blue backpack that nealy lost all her shit (eg, cell phone, wallet). A friend of mine also met Justin Sane (anti-flag)....and another dropped about as much as you on merch!
-
yeah.. again... The Bled is okay (alexisonfire lite)... alexis is win, and Thrice is awesome (especially if they do their cover of Eleanor Rigby)
-
i know i was at warped last year, but i can't actually remember where i was/who i saw....
i vaguely remember coheed, thursday and possibly matchbook romance.
it would definitely be cool to meet some people from the forums... kind of weird, but neat-o at the same time
EDIT: i cant help but spend an un-godly amount of money on merch there.
DOUBLE-EDIT: Skiba's, are you going to the Trio next monday ?
-
well then pick a place to meet... duh (i.e. say to meet by some vendor or other)
hahaha... gawd, that would be weird, huh
EDIT: Alkaline trio at Opera House? it'll kick ass

then really... I don't think you'd like many of the bands at warped... unles you're SUPER-emo, or old-school punk (at which point... last year's would've been better for you)
also...
EDIT: Alkaline trio at Opera House? it'll kick ass
it most definitely will kick ass... i'm looking forward to it
I just realized I don't have a ticket :( I may have to try to scalp one... crap[/quote]
-
If memory serves, I'm going to one being held (I think) August 9th or 19th. Somewhere in Virginia... yeah... I'll need to get more details before I pack up & go, but it should be a blast :)
Also, Thrice = teh HAWT :D
-

Warped has always just been about what sells well to a certain demographic. That used to mean pop, melodic and ska punk, these days haircut bands shift more units so you get a lot of them.
Not that any of that means people can't have a good time of course, I've had fun at the Warped Tour stage at the Leeds fest myself before.
-
I like a few of those bands, because I'm a fan of whiny sounding emo boys, and all my buddies are into MCR, though I don't really like them...
If anyone's going in the DC area, I'll be at the WT this year.
-
I'm surprised the Casualties aren't playing this year. I think they came last year, and a few of my friends went. I'm not a fan though, so I didn't go. However, seeing Jorge's hair might be worth the price of the ticket.
I've looked on http://www.albertapunk.com/site/upcomingshows/default.aspx , and absolutely crap is coming here. There are a couple not-bad bands that come here sometimes, like Wednesday Night Heros, but other than that it's largely small-time pop-punk acts and emo bands. Sometimes I think it'd be really nice to live where a person I know does. She's 45 minutes from bands like Drongos for Europe, and the Wasted festival. Look at this lineup for the Amsterdam festival!

^Now THAT's what I call a punk rock festival!
-
I didn't even know Homebrew were still going, saw them a bunch of times a few years back. I assumed they'd split.
-
DOUBLE-EDIT: Skiba's, are you going to the Trio next monday ?
Why, of course.
Bucky, thats a crazy festival. Everyone will come in and only half will leave. I'd risk it if I could.
-
Yeah, it'd be awesome. Only downside is you don't crap for 3 days, because no one wants to go near the Porta-Potties. However, the bands make up for that.
-
hahaha... awesome (resisting urge to road trip out there...)
-

#1, It's Amstredam. Fuck that.
#2 I really don't see much there besides a spike in sales for hair gel and pirate pants.
#3 Crappy Oi!, singalongs, studded jackets, 3 foot mohawks, and repeated use of vulgarity until you've regressed back to seventh grade by association does not punk rock make.
-
I'm going to the Buffalo one. Well, at Darien Lake PAC. Its July 26th, also the day before my bday, woohoo!! Theres not too many great bands going this year, kinda disapointing, but thats ok.
-

#1 - Wtf does that have to do with anything?
#2 - Then you must not be a big punk fan.
#3 - There are some awesome bands there - that's a punk rock festival. Unless you're a huge fan of the 80s hardcore stuff (like me) and nothing else (unlike me,) I don't know why you're bothering to comment on this. It's a punk festival, what do you expect? You're going to get studded jackets (which are very cool, by the by,) three foot mohawks and lots of cursing. It's part of it, live with it or don't bother.

#1 I can't think of a place less punk rock than Amstredam.
#2 I'd argue differently.
#3 I'm a fan of everything, but I can't stand 20+ bands that all sound the same in some European drug haven. I've got no quarrel with people imbibing liquor, pot and other substances. It's a personal decision and Lord knows my opinions are my own, but this is madness.
I'd much prerfer to see Bane come onstage and rip the entire audience a new one.
-
With the exception of Flamingo 50, I have to agree that most of those bands are pretty damn weak. Now this is a proper Dutch festival line-up!

Mother fuckin' Offspring is half the reason I'm going. If you don't like that band, you suck. Plus Billy talent, and Transplants are totally worth checkin' out.
-
^ That's the same basic line-up for TO, but we have no Billy Talent :(
-
Sheesh, Bucky and Ebullientsoul's arguement is like "Hey look, my penis is bigger than yours!" Cool your jets boys, let's not get too philosophical on the definition of punk. Thats bloody silly.
PS: What's wrong with Amsterdam? It's only one of the greatest cities in the world!
-
Has anyone seen the first announcement of bands for Hellfest this year? Holy shit.
* Bouncing Souls
* Champion
* Converge
* Curl Up And Die
* Pig Destroyer
* Rise Against
* Sick Of It All
* Stretch Armstrong
* With Honor
Reunion sets:
* Good Clean Fun
* Youth of Today
Those are the groups I want to see at Hellfest.
-

:(
Considering how long I've spent talking with people on what punk is about, that was nothing. 5 hour conversations, fueled mostly by Cheetos and Mountain Dew. Always good natured, but everyone has a different opinion. Which, when you think about it, is what makes punk so versatile. Everyone sees it in their own way, which makes it all the more diverse.
*Gives everyone a diversity hug*
-
AWWW, now that's better *hug* :)
Yup, I think we can all agree punk's a crazy motherfucker. A schiztophrenic, metamorphic motherfucker.
-
I can't believe nobody has mentioned Reggie and the Full Effect. Those guys are hilarious. And yes, I will be at Warped Tour down here in Atlanta. I'd probably pay $15 to see half the bands on their own, so $30 isn't a deal, it's a steal.
-
eek... I swear it's like 60 bucks up here... I'm still too broke to buy my ticket...
well, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but tickets ARE mad expensive up here, for both Warped and Edgefest
-
I can't believe Dillinger Escape Plan are playing the Warped Tour
*dies inside*
-
Reunion sets:
* Good Clean Fun
* Youth of Today
I didn't even notice GCF breaking up. Them being back will be good, but Youth of Today? Christ, when are some of these bands going to realise it's time to call it a day? Cappo's not even edge anymore! Youth of Today worked because they were a bunch of kids, seeing them do it now would just be sad and embarrassing.
-
neither Dillinger or Strike Anywhere is on my date. It truly is a shame.
-
So...
I went to Warped Tour in Milwaukee. Boy was that a mistake. The whole day was shitty emo bands! My Chemical Romance was the HEADLINER!
Pros:
Emo kids are easy (and fun!) to throw.
Dropkick Murphys kicked ass.
The Offspring were alright, but they should have played "beheaded".
Got to play hackeysack with some badass footbaggers.
Cons: Everything but the Dropkick Murphys and Offspring.
I thought I was going to at least see some suhweet halfpipe skate action? What happened to the skate ramps and shit? I thought thats what the warped tour was all about.
At least the Vagrant tent had a Get Up Kids shirt that they don't sell online anymore.
Anyone ever hear of Avenged Sevenfold?? Boooyyyy do they SUCK. I mean, wow.
-
apparently they're all the rage at hot topic now...lol
-
I liked them better when they weren't power metal and complete and utter shittalkers. Seriously, I can't think of a band that Avenged Sevenfold hasn't talked shit about in interviews.
'Waking the Fallen' was a decent album, but then they started supplying a million reasons to cover up the fact that Warner probably started fucking them in the ass.
-
My hat's off to you, then. At least you got to hear them play what good songs they once had.
So far, their explanations for moving in an altogether creatively worse direction include:
- Dislike of the scene which surrounded them (which is funny, because they're the ones who started the idea of talking shit about everyone)
- Vocalist M. Shadows blowing out his voice, having throat surgery and being told by his doctor that if he keeps screaming, he'd ruin his voice forever
- The cliché of "we've grown as a band" (which I'm not buying for a second. If they didn't really like all the bands they sounded like in the first place, then why bother sounding like them?)
-
I act a fool on a regular basis.
-
Can't wait for Warped Toronto now... It will kick ass...
Looking forward to beating the absolute SHIT out of emo kids in the MCR "mosh pit" (cry about that, bitches!); prancing throught the Atreyu pit, wearing butterfly wings (to make light of emo kids' obsession with butterflies... I figure it's cause they wish they could turn into something beautiful and fly away, the whiny bastards); getting killed by skinheads in the Dropkick pit; seeing Protest The Hero at a big venue; seeing Motion City Soundtrack, Thrice, Millencollin, and The Offspring.
WOO!
-
Damn you, I want to see Millencolin. They weren't at warped tour in milwaukee. I've been a fan of those guys forever, but every time they come around to play live, I can't go.
-
A Wilhelm Scream killed it, and so did Motion City Soundtrack.
the best band was Bedouin Soundclash, though.
I still love warped. Here's to Warped '05.
-
There is hardly any good bands going this year........and im not going to spend $50 to go see bands i dont like. Eh oh well. I was planning on going to this Fuck Warped Tour thing which has a bunch of local bands and my friend is playing in it. But, i decided to go out with some friends for a birthday celebration. So heres to hoping theres better bands next year!
-
I get the last show in Noho. 30$ for a shitty concert. At least I get to kick some poserpunk/emo ass! HOO-AH!
-
A Wilhelm Scream killed it, and so did Motion City Soundtrack.
What??? Motion City Soundtrack was great!
Highlights: getting the crap beaten out of me in the Transplants pit; getting the crap beaten out of me while I was shirtless in the Offspring pit; puking out dust after the Offspring; and getting slaughtered in the Dropkick Murphys pit while shirtless, and falling on my stomach, still shirtless, and thus getting covered in dirt. But the best part was being UP ON STAGE WITH THE DROPKICK MURPHYS.
And yes, Bedouin Soundclash was fscking awesome.
-
ah... gotcha... *sheepish grin*/
most of what they played was off commit this to memory, but I distinctly remember hearing older stuff... just can't remember what
-
Oh man. I gotta give Atryeu the sop that their pits are fun. When I saw them, I spent most of the time shoulder slamming into kids who were tying to windmill (no) and then for Lipgloss and Black (the only Atreyu song I kinda like) I just grabbed my mate nick and we created our own circle pit, slaying much ass with evil anti-social slam-dancing.
Seriously, I could see over most of that pit.
-
Yeah, the Atreyu pit was fun... beating the hell out of the fourteen years olds is something I enjoy... better when circle pits do form, and you skank around in them, knocking the kids over.
