Just so this thread does get some work done, I do have a mix of some of the oddest covers in my collection:
SikTh - Tupelo (Nick Cave)
Ewigkeit - Ea 2000: Out for the Count (Burzum)
Anal Cunt - Staying Alive (The Bee Gees)
Inkubus Sukkubus - I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Head (Kylie Minogue)
Halo of Flies - Deathcrush [Genocide on the Dancefloor Version] (Mayhem)
Type O Negative - Cinnamon Girl (Neil YOung)
Jack Off Jill - Love Song (The Cure)
Amorphis - Light My Fire (The Doors)
The Anti-Nowhere League - Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves (Cher)
Entombed - The Ballad of Hollis Brown (Bob Dylan)
KMFDM - These Boots Are Made For Walking (Nancy Sinatra)
Overlord - Sound of the Underground (Girls Aloud)
Johnny Cash - Hurt (Nine Inch Nails)
Tulus - Space Oddity (David Bowie)
Skyclad - Prime Evil (Venom)
Therion - Summer Night City (Abba)
The Meads of Asphodel - Utopia (Hawkwind)
Dimmu Borgir - Burn in Hell (Twisted Sister)
It is unusual for my lists, in that it contains shameless self-promotion in the form of the Halo of Flies track. Halo of Flies being, of course, me.
-
Anal Cunt - Staying Alive (The Bee Gees)
I so need to get that cover.
-
You don't have it/haven't heard of it?
It's their most famous song! Grindcore/Oi! version:
"OI! OI! OI! OI! STAYIN' ALIVE STAYIN' ALIVE RAAAGHR!"
-
I've got an awesome album of Reggae Bob Dylan covers.
-
Khar you missed..
Anal Cunt - Gloves Of Metal (Manowar Cover)

I've got an awesome album of Reggae Bob Dylan covers.
There's some guy on the radio here who does entire hours devoted to reggae Bob Dylan Covers.
-
Muse have done some pretty good covers. Feeling good (dont remember who wrote it, but it wasn't that good anyway), Please please please let me get what I want (The Smiths) and House of the Rising Sun (Animals).
-
That song wasn't actually originally written by the Animals. It was actually an old english ballad, and the first person to record it was some blues guy named something Alexander sometime in the 20's. They just popularized it.
-
Just off the top of my head...
Quciksand- How Soon Is Now (The Smiths)
Walking Concert- Ask (The Smiths)
The English Beat- Tears Of A Clown (Smokey Robinson)
The Jam- they did a ton of covers of The Who, The Kinks, and old RnB.
I Object- We Are The One (The Avengers)
Flaming Lips- I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Head (Kylie Minogue)
Snapcase- Freedom Of Choice (Devo)
The Cardigans feat. Tom Jones- Burning Down The House (Talking Heads)
They Might Be Giants- Caroline, No (the Beach Boys)
Franz Ferdinand- Not For Great Men
-
I must say, Stretch Arm Strong's cover of NWA's 'Express Yourself' is pretty fun. And 7 Seconds' version of ''99 Red Balloons'. Although, what I really want is for someone to cover that song Swedish death metal style, double bass drums and all. That'd be awesome.
-
Khar you missed..
Anal Cunt - Gloves Of Metal (Manowar Cover)
I operate a strict 'one song per band per mix' policy. It was a straight run-off between Staying Alive, Gloves of Metal and their kick-ass version of the Hungry Hungry Hippos jingle.
-
Franz Ferdinand- Not For Great Men
isn't that Gang of Four originally?

that was actually a joke. they don't cover the song, just blatantly rip it off.
-
Death Cab for Cutie does a bunch of covers, but I have to point out Dream Scream (Daniel Johnston), Complicated (Avril), Face that Launched 1000 Shits/Ships (don't know), and Prove My Hypothesis (don't know).
The Dismemberment Plan did a cover of Crush (by that lame pop artist) that strips down the song to it's essence and makes it into a slow-burning indie rock tune. They also did a cover of Close to Me (The Cure).
-
o_. ' The Face that Launched 1000 Shits' is a Cradle of Filth slogan. You can get t-shirts with it on.
-

ah okay, and now that I come to think of it, their sound(not lyrics) are quite Gang of Four-ish, I never liked anything other than Matinee and Take Me Out anyway...
-

Well, it's either Ships or Shits, since I've found numerous translations. I believe the official is Shits, though, so that's really wierd. XP

I've always been fond of Sinead Oconners cover of "Nothing Compares To you"
-
A Perfect Circle does a quasi cover of Ozzy's "Diary of a Madman"/The Cure's "Love Song" that's pretty damn neat.
-
What the hell is a quasi-cover?
-
it's like a cover, but not quite. Like "Diary of a Lovesong" (The aforemented quasi-cover).
You'd know what he meant if you heard the song (which is incredible).

Don't be a dick to the new folks from now on, please.
(phrase things nicer, also, if it's off the first few pages, a new thread is fine.)
-
If I came off as a dick, I didn't mean to, just informing. or something.
-
He wasn't being a dick. Good crimony, lighten up.
Speaking of skate-punk covers of '80s MOR songs, I heard the most delightfully awful version of "Everything I Do, I Do it For You" (or whatever) the other day. The Used, I think it was?
-
Talking of Medleys:
Candlemass - Black Sabbath Medley
Star One - Hawkwind Medley
Both in similiar styles (the Star One track even has Dave Brock on vocals) but serious rockage.
-
TV On The Radio's version of Mr. Grieves by the pixies... but only cause i am a singer
Elliott Smith's covers of like any song ever...
-

I know your intentions weren't as such, that's why I put the parenthesis below the facetious part of my post, your delivery could use some work, is all.
On topic:
John Anderson does a great cover of Dire Straits' When It Comes To You
-

A New Found Glory to be exact. Why do I know these things?
Also, if you remember the song at the end of Dawn of the Dead, it was Richard Cheese doing a rockabilly cover of Down with the Sickness. He does a bunch of stuff like that is very cool.
-
Hendrix.
Hendrix.
Hendrix.
Seriously, that guy was the king of the cover.
-
He was like an entire cover act. Fuck his actual songs.
-
For those Australians around, you can't go past Frankenbok's cover of Don't Call Me Baby.
Also, in the running for coolest cover ever, Alchemist's version of The Eve of the War (from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds).
-
Johnny Cash covered NIN's Hurt. That was amazing as hell.
-
I don't know if it's been recorded, but when I saw Camper Van Beethoven they did a countryfied version of The Clash's "White Riot"
-
I must have this!

I think Under Byens remix of Rammstein's Ohne Dich is fantastic, because Under Byen does what they do best, being themselves. My respect for Rammstein grew as well, since Under Byen and Rammstein are as far from each other musically as you can be.
Here it is if you're interested:

Theres a band that did country covers of Pink Floyd songs I can never remember the name of.
They were pretty good though. Only country music I could stand.
-
ever noticed how many bands have covered that bowie song "under pressure"?
i mean blood brothers do it live all the time, capn jazz did a cover of it that they put at the end of sam zurick's solo cd
i mean the most famous "under pressure" cover is the vanilla ice version, but he changed the name to ice ice baby, so i dunno if it counts
-
Oh, I just thought of a great one:
Zombie Apocalypse - Welcome To the Jungle (http://www.lawofinertia.com/listen/19.mp3)
-
I only have a couple of covers of Space Oddity (Star One and Tulus) and one of Ziggy Stardust (Bauhaus).
-
slightly stoopid- doing "i used to love her" by Guns N Roses
(not sure that's the actual title, but you know what i mean)
-
Someone did a bluegrass cover of "Gin And Juice" and if I knew where the inter-nets stored it I would link. It's hilarious though.
-
yeah, it's either OAR or Phish, it's been labled as both. i think it's OAR though, cause it's not all that good
-
*Ahem* (http://www.phish.net/faq/ginandjuice.html)
How can I hear Phish doing "Gin and Juice"?
This song has not been performed or recorded by the Vermont band Phish .
It was originally done by Dr. Dre, Snoop, and a NYC hip-hop artist named Phish, and has been covered by a bluegrass band from Texas called the Gourds. The latter circulates on MP3, and is sometimes incorrectly labelled as by Phish.
The hip-hop artist "Phish" is also featured on backup vocals for Dre's "What's the Difference" (track 7 on Dr. Dre 2001 - a title as remarkably unoriginal as using the name Phish nearly two decades after the band started to).
Special thanks to Roberlyn, Mark Carroll, and Alex Esselstein.

well there ya go kids, tune in next week for more "shut your yap"

All you folks going nuts over Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" (as you should be) should check out the rest of the covers he did in the American Series.
Off the top of my head some really good ones were: "One" (U2), "I See a Darkness" (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy), "Rusty Cage" (Soundgarden), "Personal Jesus" (Depeche Mode), "The Mercy Seat" (Nick Cave).
There are loads more, but there's a good start.
-
Ghoul - What a wonderful world (Louis Armstrong)
Ghoul - Skull Beneath The Skin (Megadeth)
Powermad - Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment (Ramones)
Cradle of Filth - Black Metal (Venom)
Kreator - Witching Hour (Venom)
Death - Painkiller (Judas Priest)
Impaled - Carneous Cacoffiny (Carcass)
Vulgar Pigeons - Corporeal Jigsore Quandry (Carcass)
Cutthroat - Bonded by Blood (Exodus)
Catasexual Urge Motivation - Defiling the Grave (Impetigo)
-
The [spunge] album That Should Cover It contains pretty much all covers of classic rock songs like The Land Down Under and Centerfold.
-
Cradle of Filth - Black Metal (Venom)
It would have been better without the gay ass keyboard interlude in the middle.
-
I don't know if it's been recorded, but when I saw Camper Van Beethoven they did a countryfied version of The Clash's "White Riot"
They do a good cover of "Wasted" by Black Flag as well. I have an AFI cover of "My Michele" originaly by Guns N' Roses on a mix. Also a cover of "Ashes to Ashes" by Dough Martsch from Built to Spill. There is an entire album of Cat Power doing cover songs as well. Ween's cover of Ace of Spades. Mephaskapheles cover of the Bumblebee Tuna song. Fantomas cover of The Godfather theme. Flaming Lips cover of "Seven Nation Army."
I can't remember when exactly except it seemed somewhat recently but does anyone remember the Ben Folds cover of an NWA song that Sam Logan linked to on Sam and Fuzzy?
-
You know what'd be great? a Motorhead cover that ISN'T Ace of Fucking Spades.
-
What, like Girlschool's version of 'Bomber' or Entombed's version of 'One Track Mind'?
There are more too I'm sure.
-
Devo does some awesome covers too.
