God that is a horrible subject title.
But yes, for those who haven't otherwise heard, Q and not U are going the way of Mclusky and the Unicorns, and after their oustanding tours and maybe one last farewell set they will be going bye bye.
Sucks!
-
I can't say I ever got into Q and not U.
-
Wouldn't they be "Qitting?"
-
I saw this a few days ago and it depressed me. A lot. Goddamnit.
-
I'm glad I get to see them at Siren because I missed them when they played locally with Minus the Bear. I haven't really gotten that into Different Damage, and I don't know No Kill No Beep Beep at all, but I love Power. And their performance on the Burn to Shine DVD was great.
-

this guy is right.
I like Q And Not U, but mostly just their first album. I mean, everything they've done is pretty good, but they seemed to get less good as they went on. SO I'll never get to see them, but my feeling is I wouldn't really want to see them in their recent phase anyway.
-
This is very very sad news. Power was a decent album, they could of done a lot better, and it could be as bad as the Black eyes last album, which was fucking terrible.
But Dischord bands break up all the time, I never really put too much hope in seeing them around for awhile.
-
Man, that really sucks. I own all of their albums so I guess I could say that I'm a fan.
Heh, at least one band I saw live before they broke up (along with mclusky, whom I refuse to write in caps, that makes two bands, actually). Oh, and even though their equipment broke, they rocked. ... Not quite as much as 31 Knots, who opened for them, but still.
-
Can't say I've ever heard of this band.
-
I love the awful pun in the thread name. Kudos.
As for Q and not U, I've never really been a fan, I find their music to be really irritating, slightly resembling Les Savvy Fav, if they sucked (whic they do not).
-
Yeah, heard about this a few days ago.
At least I got to see 'em before they broke up, unlike Black Eyes :(
-
whooops double post.
-
!? they played here in dc (where theyre from) so much...i used to see them live every other time they played, and still see them a few times a year
this sucks SO OSOSO SMUCH
-
It sure does.
Somehow, this hasn't been a good week for rock. Within a week we had Q And Not U, Hot Snakes, Gluecifer and One Man And His Droid (German emo band) split up. Who's next?
-
ok, i have to admit, i've never heard any of their recorded stuff, but when i saw them with interpol, i was thoroughly unimpressed. actually, when the lead singer came out i started laughing (i'm sorry, but an ugly overweight guy in an entirely too small women's sports jacket is really funny to me), and then they proceeded to justify my scorn by making asses of themselves and by playing a set that reminded me of a really bad battle of the bands i once attended. the band who won basically sat on stage, screamed, made funny noises, and hit random stuff with large wooden objects. and everyone was like "yeeeaahhhh!!!'
i threw up.
seriously.
i'll admit they were interesting, but fuck, trainwrecks are interesting. that's what they sounded like to me. they tried to pass themselves off as intelligent, different, and fresh, but just because you dance around on stage like an idiot, play dissonant chords with techno beats, whisper-sing, and wear stupid lime green t-shirts, it doesn't make you good or cool or intelligent at all.
best quote of the night came from my 3 pinted, irish car-bombed friend:: "man, there's nothing like really bad music to sober you up. interpol better fucking rock"
and they did.
-
^ its funny because i find interpol to be completely boring and even more so annoying.

This is true.

there's your first problem. buy (or d/l...whatever) their album "different damage" ...its probably their easist cd to get into for me. once you listen to that, listen to some of their other recordings and see how they grew over time and completely changed their sound 2 or 3 different times.
i'm sorry, but an ugly overweight guy in an entirely too small women's sports jacket is really funny to me
so what do you wear? i am sure we could critique whatever you're wearing and probably be "unimpressed" with it.

what i really want to know out of all of this is how you know what they are "trying to pass themselves off as" ...did they come on stage and say that? did you talk to them or their friends? i would venture out on a limb and say that a band that has the qualities you just listed aren't seen every day or at every show. if anything it sets them apart.
so when interpol gets up on stage in their matching suits and jostle around while playing, that makes them cool and intellegent? at least q and not u didn't need a gimmic to attract attention. i own and have listened to a lot 'turn on the bright lights' and 'antics' ...i put it on when i am going to go to bed.
seriously.
it makes me sad to see q and not u go bye bye... add that to the list of bands (dismemberment plan, 764 hero,...) i havent gotten to see because of living in tennessee. oh well. maybe their new projects will be good.
-
The Black Keys are playing somme shows right about now in Tennessee. Go see them. Now. Before it is too late.
And seriously, yeah, saying "Q and not U are kinda too gimmicky for me and by the way Interpol are totally cool" is pretty lame. Way too many people act like Interpol are the second coming of Christ. This is really not the case.
-
i'll probably see them in knoxville on sept. 1st. that still is about a month and a half away, isn't it? thanks for the heads up!
-
More than a month, but still a good plan nonetheless. Sometimes it pays to plan ahead.

their side-projects (well atlesat chris') have been to black cat(the dc venue they frequent and will be having their last shows at) but i havent ever had the chance to see them.
im going to both their last shows, i already decided.
-
meh. sorry about that. you're just mourning their loss, there wasn't really any good reason for me to crap on them. it's not like i'm going to change your mind or anything.

No, you just have bad taste in music. I've tried and tried to give Interpol a fair chance, but they seriously bore the shit out of me. They do nothing innovative or new and don't push any boundaries whatsoever. Fine, if you like that sort of bland shit, all the more power to you, but don't say a band is shit just because their music makes you a little uncomfortable.
Especially when you listen to boring-ass shit like interpol.
-
^
congrats on becoming a COMPLETE asshole.
-
*laughs because he thinks all this music is bland, and is more than a complete asshole*
-
congrats on becoming a COMPLETE asshole.
I've been a complete asshole for a long, long, long time. This is not news.
Additionally, lily started the douchitude, and claiming Interpol is better than any band is just asking to get insulted, sorry.
-
im seeing them tonight, and their last two shows :P
-

That's the problem with metal. It desensitizes you to subtle nuance.
-
There's gotta be a bit of desensitisation, when your music kicks so much ass.
Then again, metal hasn't desensitised me to folk music, classic rock, ebm, goth rock, pscyhobilly, punk, or any of the other stuff I listen to.
Odd that. Or, maybe not...
-
I just saw them on the 18th, I didn't even know they were breaking up til I went to the show and everyone was talking about it. So now I'm extra happy that I went. I'll probably go to one of their last shows too.
-
They just announced two shows on 9/20 at the Knitting Factory (NYC) and I know I'll be at one of them. I saw them at Siren and I danced so idiotically that some girls started laughing at me.
-
I just wanted to mention that;
1. I've seen the black eyes in concert... they sound NOTHING like they do on album but equally good.
2. I remember all the crazy drama about dischord signing faraquet and Q at the same time. In my opinion you really can't even compare the two. And with any luck the splinter projects will be better than the splinter projects from Faraquet.
3. To the guy that mentioned the black keys show... different band dude. (although if you can catch them in a small place they are a lot of fun to see)
4. I really liked different damage... so sue me.
-
I know Black Keys are a different band. I was responding to someone else's complaint that nothing good ever plays shows in Tennessee.
-
well darn, i saw Q and Not U with interpol at the Orpheum a little bit ago, they played well, but the crowd was not into it, im glad i saw them before they broke up. as a matter of fact im wearing their shirt. hopefully they will move on to new bands, and make some good stuff
-
sp2
sorry about that
I was just reading and saw black eyes black eyes black eyes...
here everybody the black keys do play around here!
my mistake
:)
-
No prob. Honest mistake.
-
ok, this is easily my favorite band, and all i can say is GOD DAMN IT!
never got a chance to buy merch for them, anyone got a shirt they're willing to sell?
