Who else here worships this man as the rightful God of Epic strategy games?
-
I'll admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for Civilization 2.
Gettysburg wasn't bad for a RTS that only had one map and three units.
-
Gettysburg was quite fun.
Also, Alpha Centauri > Civ 2. Imo anyway.
-
That man may be making crack and not video games.
-

Ooo, loved the expansion pack on this one. Too bad it doesn't run very well on XP.
-
Does yours have lots of trouble with the videos as well?
-
oh my God, i completely forgot alpha centauri existed! i am so tracking it down before work tomorrow.

has it I think..
[It also has freespace ;) ]
-
I <3 Alpha Centauri. Civ II was really good as well, I played it way too much.
-
I bow before Sid Meier and burn objects that would create a pleasing scent at his altar. For he is truly the god of the strategy game, and lo, the strategy game is my ultimate weakness.
Next to RPGs, that is. But we're not talking about that! No! I <3 Civ 2 & 3 and AlpCent!
-
Civ2 was such a good game and such a time consumer. I want Civ3, so I can waste away more of my life!
-
Haven't played Civ3? What've you been waiting for, man!?!
Although by this point, unless you really have a burning desire for some Civ3 action, may as well wait till November for Civ4.

one of my favourite games ever. i lost so many nights playing that thing... *nostalgic*
-
Centauri... I remember making the little mans and eating people...
-
I really enjoyed Civ 3... I have to hunt down the CD and put it on this computer.
-

Well, not owning a computer made it rather difficult...
-
Good answer.
-
Colonization!
Sid Mayer indeed is the king of Strategy games (but not war games).
-
Doesn't it wind anyone up that none of your "Allies" have the silghtest shred of a sense of honour. I mean I know it is realistic and all but it just makes me tired at times when I've carried a neighbour nation through the whole game and then near the end they launch some half-assed surprise attack that means I have to wipe them from the face of the planet. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't get so damn suicidal, at least if they beat me I could see the point.
Don't get me wrong, I do love Civ 3 (and loved 2 in spite of all the hassle of setting up trade routes which seemed to last forever (and loved 1 for that matter :) )) although it is a shame espionage isn't as much fun in 3 as in 2 IMO.

Christ do I love Civilization III. I've wasted so much of my life on it.
One thing that does bother me is that the AI is so obnoxious. They have absolutely no respect for your borders, but if you so much as build a free railroad for them they act as if you've pushed the world to the brink of total annihilation. They also have some strategies that make no sense from the perspective of someone trying to win the game and all the sense in the world if they're trying to make me just quit in frustration, such as fucking Babylon building thousands of bowmen in the modern era and slowly but relentlessly marching them towards my cities to do a "sneak attack". One can easily mow every one of them down, but it takes about half an hour of extreme tedium that I usually don't have the patience for.
Anyway, the feeling of taking the strongest enemy on the map and reducing him to a single city on an isolated desert island is one of the better feelings in existence.

Chris Taylor > Sid Meier.
Chris is the game designer behind Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander.
-
Pirates, ARR.
-
I like Sid but he hasn't come up with a new idea in years. He's basically making his living lending his name to new versions of games he came up with in the 1980's.
-
Civ3 was crack. The remade pirates was also fun, except that there was some bug in the game that kept me from finishing it. Boo.
-
SimGolf owns you.
-
Civilization always has a place in my heart. I was 7 years old when I played the DOS virsion of Civilization I. For that I have Great respect for the Civ series, Sid, and his little company Firaxis (and sympathy for MicroProse).
And his other games are great too.
-
Gettysburg was just so much fun.
I also played an older Civ game, but it had some sort of subtitle. That was fun as well.
-
Alpha Centauri and Gettysburg.
Somehow, you never even realize that the latter has only one map. :D

Dude. Total Annihilation. Dude.
Seriously, that, in my opinion, will always be the Best. Game. Ever. ©
The physics engine in that game just rocked.
-
Hey! Nobody has mentioned Sid Meier's pirates....it isn't strategy, nor is it particularly gory..but their is something about beating down the entire Spanish Armada in an armaggeddon esque scenario.
-
I have a newer computer so civilization III will now work! I'm going to go play it.
