Well, in addition to the one's that are officially poo-pooed by the FCC and the School which owns the station, the DJs decided to write a bunch of other words. My best freind's contribution was "Nickleback."

I remember they were on some danish mtv clone, and they were given some clay to make something or another. And what did they make? Not that I've been around here long enough to track trends, but Creed has finally STOPPED making godawful music, while Nickelback continues to torment us all. That in and of itself puts Nickelback above Creed on my own personal list of bands to destroy if I had superpowers.
I die a little inside every time I inadvertantly walk past the CD rack at Walmart and see Creed's "greatest hits" CD. Bleh.

The easiest solution is to either listen to stations that play nothing made after 1950, or just do what I do and listen to internet radio systems that learn from what music you like.

And the worst band ever is easily Creed. Creed is the kind of thing police use to clear out drug houses and cult strongholds.

The worst band in the world is this Goth/Punk/Metal/Thing band consisting of annoying sixteen year olds from Brooklyn. Their drummer isn't too bad though.
Of course if we follow the logic that the worst band would be a band that is hated universally by anyone who listens to it then we come to the conclusion that the worst band cannot exist because we presume that at least one member of the band itself likes the band. Therefore there cannot be a worst band ever since the opinion is still held by someone for any band that the band is good. And since the best band ever and the worst band ever both are bands that cannot exists we may be drawn to the startling conclusion that the worst band and the best band ever are the exact same band.

To be fair, the worst band in the world is probably actually Anal Cunt's early material, when they were still sticking with 'no titles, no song structure, no riffs, no rhythm'. Just hideous dischordant a-musical noise. Unfortunately, that's really avant-garde, and people started digging them, so they started going for hyper-offensive lyrics and such. Problem is, they just ended up as a fucking awesome band. It's hilarious that people take songs like 'I Sent Concentration Camp Footage to America's Funniest Home Videos'* and 'The Internet is Gay' seriously. Well, at least 'I'm Glad Jazz Fags Don't Like Us Anymore'.

Sigh, I don't even dream of any sort of cred in this forum. I apparently like most of the bands that are the "godawful" mofos 'round har. Haha, Fantastic. I like coldplay, too, though. not because they are mainstream, i just really enjoy mellow "boring" music. too bad. That probably won't change.

The Cornell clocktower occasionally plays Coldplay's song Clocks on their chimes. If you can get past the meaningless lyrics of Coldplay, I'm sure it's all great. I just personally can't get past said meaningless lyrics.

A lot of J-Pop, especially the Eurobeat stuff, is pretty bloody dire. There are actually some very good J-Pop/J-Rock bands, but some is the musical equivalent of snorting 4 kilos of candyfloss from a sumo-wrestlers navel.

I don't see how anyone can label any type of music bad. Damn, people. Have some respect for different taste. So what if I hate pop or R&B or country or emo or whatever, I would never label a band bad. Music is music, which i have a lot of respect for. Just because you do not like a particular band doesn't mean they suck, they just appeal to different tastes. If someone is making music, then good for them. If one person likes the band, then it isn't a lost cause.

Listen to any of their albums and you'll see what I mean.

Also, I didn't mean to contradict myself. That sounds extremely juvenile of me, and I feel pretty stupid. What I beleive I mean is that perhaps there is an amazing singer, but you just don't like the sound of their voice, that doesn't make the singer bad. And yeah, you are right, there are some bands that are truly honest-to-god awful. Some that really can't even make their music sound good together, whether it is lack of talent or just lacking the ability to be syncronized with each other. Or some singers are just painfully awful. I dunno, forget what I said before, I was being dumb because a band I really liked was being bashed. Blahblahblah.

this makes sense to me, but i don't think this should stop us from calling those bands that don't fit our taste "bad." i think a lot of bands suck shit, but other people like them. to me they are bad, i'm not going to PC my speech and say that i just don't prefer them when i think they suck big floppy donkey dick. everyone needs to take that little bit of thought and realize that we can only speak for ourselves, and everyone else can only speak for themselves. we know this, so assume this.

I guess I have a different approach about bands I dislike, I'm just non-confrontational. it seems silly to me, all the hatin' over something that seems so trivial as taste in music. Vocal talent is not equivalent to musical talent.
Christina Aguilera has vocal talent. I wouldn't call her music "talented." I'd call it bastardized coommercialized livestock droppings. Same thing with Coldplay. Coldplay has a style that was previously associated with Radiohead and is, to a lesser extent, associated with Muse. Piano rock with tremolo vocals.
Their music is uninspired. It is an attempt to capitalize off the musical zeitgeist following Radiohead's first 3 albums. The lyrics are shitty high school love poetry. The musical parts are very simplistic. The vocals are a little complex, but there are much better vocalists out there. If I wanted to listen to choir boys, I'd become a priest....at least I'd get blowjobs as part of the bargain.
Claiming Coldplay sucks is not like claiming dogs are mutannt freaks. It is like claiming chihuahuas are mutannt disgusting freaks. Which they are. The only things more inbred than a chihuahua are Hapsburgs and West Virginians.

This is one of those sentences that sound totally hysterical when you post them on the Internet, but when you walk away from the computer you realize it's really stupid.
As far as Coldplay goes...whatever. They're so utterly bland that I simply cannot work up any strong feelings for them, positive or negative. The best thing I can say about them is that they fade into the background really nicely.

See, I think this is where sp2 gets the high school poetry thing from. Martin is using well-oiled rhyming couplets in place of something insightful or unique. We can all rhyme "light" and "right", but what do these lyrics actually mean? And how do they tie in with the emotion behind the song? Judging from the lyrics, this song is apparently about how even the smallest words and actions are extremely powerful, sometimes devastating, but he's using the most bland language to convey this idea. It rolls right off the tongue, in one ear and out the other. If Martin actually wanted to make some kind of impact with his songs, he'd use more forceful, or at least more thoughtful, language.
Also, don't bother defending your band by posting lyrics you like. The opposing side would find something to nitpick in a Shakespeare sonnet.

The music is uninspired. Not the lyrics. The lyrics are just shitty. The music is uninspired, as it is formulaic and lacks any sort of punch. There are plenty of solf piano-ey songs out there that can still kick you in the ass. Coldplay doesn't do that. Coldplay opts for formulaic and inoffensive. This is not writing music because it's inside you and you need to get it out. This is writing music because there's still space in your pockets for a few more million and you wouldn't mind filling it.
And yes, I've listened to every Coldplay album ad nauseum (emphasis on nausea). My ex-roommate loved the shit out of them, so I'd have to listen to them half the time I spent in my apartment.

Ah, the refuge of the thoroughly beaten. I like plenty of popular bands, at least, bands that have been popular in the past. Popularity does not make music bad. Writing music thinking of your bank account and not the music itself DOES make music bad. And that is exactly what Coldplay does. Their music is uninspired and unimaginative, they know this, and they keep on writing more unimaginative and uninspired music because it keeps them in that #1 spot on the bestselling music roster.

I don't really know, but it doesn't matter. This is a thread about shitty music, thus, bashing shitty music is perfectly fair game, and not an asshole move. Calling me an asshole doesn't change the fact that everything I've said here has been pretty much fair game for this thread.

That was more a response to her constantly calling me an asshole or a dick. I don't care if she thinks my comments about Coldplay's lack of merit are mean. She ups the ante by calling me an asshole for it. Either we limit the discussion to the merits or demerits of music, or we extend it to personal insults. Calling me an asshole is a personal insult. Personal insults don't really bother me, but if we're going to play that game, well, a lot worse will come out than "prudish bitch."
Personally, I'd prefer to keep the discussion to the merits or demerits of music. Personal insults belong on IRC.

I think Yo La Tengo is a shitty band. The boring, muddy distortion and lack of power in the vocals makes me want to commit suicide. Seriously. I go out of it feeling so shitty I could crawl up in a hole and die...and not in a good way.

You can't go wrong with lyrics about lust. We like, we like.
I enjoy that song, though, i guess. The beat and sound of the verses at least. Nothing by Nickelback surpasses O.K. to me. Far too general sounding. same with 12 stones... just very... blah boring same things we heard a billion times.
