I've been listening to some vs things recently.
They are well cool!
Innocent Abstraction by Therapy? rocks hard.
and the best one:
Faithless vs. Prodigy doing Insomnia vs. Funky Shit
what a kickass tune! If you guys are into your dance music grab that second one it's really good! always makes me want to dance around the room like some crazed pillmonster.
-
elvis vs jxl "a little less conversation' was cool... the rest often sux :P
-
Since the only one of these in my collection is half me, I have little to contribute to this discussion.
Except I would like to thank Jay Z for anwering the question 'how could Linkin Park be any worse'.
-
Depends what you mean.
If you want the songs to specifically to have "vs" in the title then I am at a loss.
On the other hand if you are talking about collabarations involving an electronica/turntabalist/breaks/etc artist;
Dj shadow and dj krush- Lost and found
Dj shadow and cut chemist- Brainfreeze
Dj shadow and cut chemist- Product placement breaks
Mad professor and Lee Perry- Techno Dub
Aphex Twin & µ-Ziq (as Mike & Rich) - Expert Knob Twiddlers
/me leaves quickly
-
General Patton Vs. The X-ecutioners
So good.
-
Aphex Twin & µ-Ziq (as Mike & Rich) - Expert Knob Twiddlers
µ-ziq FTW!!! that's a great collaboration.
[rant]and i wish people would stop using "vs." in song titles. like, shut up, you're a shitty house dj. you couldn't fight anyone.[/rant]
(...unless it is actually a recording of the bands FIGHTING. then i might be interested)
(edit'd for double-post shenanigans)

Damn yeah.
There's Mayhem tracks which feature both Varg Vikernes and Øystein Aarseth, the man who he would later brutally stab to death.
-
There's an Aquabat's song called "The Fight Song" and it's fan-gossip/rumor that one of the many punches was actually Crash McLarson punching Chainsaw in the face for the song. But Chainsaw didn't know. Heh. Crazy Aquabats...
-
I missed the Aquabats and now I'm like, totally fucking emo.
-
Since the only one of these in my collection is half me, I have little to contribute to this discussion.
What about Thorns vs. Emperor?
-
don't have it \o/
I am crazily ungrim, I know.
-
Heh. I've seen em twice, and speaking from experience, sell your soul for an Aquabats show. So damned funny.
-
50 Cent - In Da Club vs. The Benny Hill Theme (http://www.99x.com/station/programs/mashups/mashups/new/Benny%20Hill%20Theme%20-%20VS%20-%2050%20Cent%20-%20In%20Da%20Club.mp3).
It's scary how well that fits.
Also, listening to it makes me laugh because in my mind, 50 Cent dances along to that in the most retarded fashion possible.
-
ooh, i forgot about this one. it's possibly my favourite mashup. ever. it's dumb and it rocks out, which is how these things are supposed to work.
evol intent + the beach boys -- i get plague around (http://www.rokitlabs.com/djphrenzy/audio/evol_intent_vs_beach_boys(phrenzy_remash).mp3).
the evol intent track is "seven angels with seven plagues" (evol intent are a US dnb crew who make slammin' glitchy drum and bass with loads of edits and stutters. .'. = rad.)
and no prizes for guessing the beach boys tune.
-
Vs. songs are often made of stupid.
-
My take on it is that Vs. tracks tend to lose any sort of unique sound that the musicians have on their own. That's fine if you're just looking for something to spin at a party or a rave (do they still have raves? or did those go extinct?), but really, it sucks if you're actually interested in the music.
-
the 2 I mentioned are dance tracks, well one is, the other is an industrial groove grungey thing which one can dance to. I think if it's dance music it's fine. isn't that what most dance music is anyway?
-

I really really really want to see them live.
-

A) Sure, as something to spin at a club, that's fine, although a real DJ will do some creative mixing of his own, so he can spin whatever he damned well pleases. Same with raves, although I'm pretty sure raves are all but extinct. But most dance music is actually mixed by an in-house DJ, well, it is if you go to a half-decent club.
B) Prodigy is not industrial.
Just to piss off Kai and Khar, I'm going to suggest that an Inkubus Sukkubus vs. The Residents track would be hilarious, though.
-
That would actually be totally awesome. I mean, one group singing about Vampires and whatnot and another group singing about Wars between mole people. How can you go wrong?
-
I am reminded of the time Sp2's typing oversight lead me to imagine All Around my Watchtower, a Steeleye Span vs Bob Dylan vs.
I'm not sure you can even really vs. two tracks unless at least one is rhythm based, however.
-
If we're talking vs mashups, there's no way of getting around 2 Many DJ's!
-
And now you come to mention it, scratch perverts.
-

A)Nearly all dance music uses samples in a creative way. Everything from Prodigy to Fatboyslim. Early house music was built on samples. Just like a lot of hip-hop.
B)I didn't say Prodigy was industrial. I said Therapy?'s early stuff was industrial.
-
A)Nearly all dance music uses samples in a creative way.
No. Nearly all dance music uses samples. Only some dance music uses samples in a creative way.
-
It doesn't matter whether it's creative or not. My point is: they use them.
-
The best mashup I've ever heard was Party Ben (http://www.partyben.com/)'s "Never Feel Good (http://www.partyben.com/PartyBen-GorillaCake-NeverFeelGood.mp3)."
Gorillaz vs. Cake. Mmm, tasty.
-
Nine Inch Nails vs. Ray Parker Jr (http://www.nathanchase.com/2005/04/ghost-that-feedsray-parker-jrs.html)
i.e. NIN's 'The Hand That Feeds' and The Ghostbusters Theme.
*fap*
-
Gorillaz vs. Cake. Mmm, tasty.
Wait is that real or hypothetical? Because either way it is really really awesome.
As for awesome hypothetical ones:
The Dust Broters Vs. Tom Waits
Inkubus Sukkubus Vs. The Dandy Warhols
MC Honky Vs. Slayer
DJ Shadow Vs. The Grateful Dead
The X-ecutioners Vs. Jimi Hendrix

What do you mean? I put a link to the song in my post.

Holy shit that's good.
-
So it's official I hate music then. I got though about fifteen seconds of that.
I need to prod Jimi into finishing Quietus vs. Dread Conveyor. Then youse bitches will see.
-
Holy shit that's good.
Exactly my reaction. Now if only I could find Nirvana vs. Michael Jackson - "Smells Like Billy Jean" (not the Smash-Up Derby live version, the one with the remixed orginal recordings).
