also, antony and the johnsons play this thursday, in a catholic cathedral no less (!), but it seems i have no-one to hold my hand. boo.

Was supposed to go to Vancouvers showing of the New Pornographers, but things didnt work out....so sad.....cant go. I plan on trying to make the Killers, Broken Social Scene and Architecture in Helsinki though
[second edit] ok, so I found it.....I am NOT missing that
-
I am also a Vancouverite. Going to see Franz Ferdinand and Arcade Fire in October.
I would have liked to see the New Pornographers, but alas I am not of the age required by the Commodore.
-

9.24 at Royce Hall, UCLA -- The Kronos Quartet (probably not gonna make it to this)
10.1 at the Troubadour -- The Sugarplastic (opening for the Autumns*) [Robert Plant's playing the same day, but the tickets are ridiculous priced. Plus the Sugarplastic play at MOST 3 shows a year that are all ages. And like, 10 shows total. So I feel justified in not going to see Robert Plant...]
10.9 at the House Of Blues, Hollywood -- The Adicts (another show I reluctantly plan to miss...)
10.13 at the Troubadour -- Headphones (opening for Minus The Bear)
10.26 at the Roxy -- The Bad Plus
10.29 at the Grove in Anaheim -- Johnny Vatos (drummer of Boingo) w/members of Oingo Boingo [this may or may not be the start of a reunion!]
11.12 at Royce Hall, UCLA -- Youssou N'dour and the Egyptian Orchestra
11.17 at the Avalon -- Spoon (I am very pissed that their supergig with The Flaming Lips, The Shins, and The Arcade Fire is in Vegas. If you live in or around Vegas, and don't go to that show, I will hunt you down and DESTROY YOU!)
11.18 at the Avalon -- The Dandy Warhols
12.3 at McCabes -- Tin Hat (either Trio, Quartet, or Quintet, not really sure yet.)
12.4 at Anaheim Arrowhead Pond -- Trans-Siberian Orchestra
I hope to be able to make it to most of these. This is the most concert-filled fall I have ever seen ever. It is packed with total awesome.
*I know not much about this band. Are they worth it to stay for? What type of musics are they? Etc.

live music is exciting. i just found out i have a dentist appointment at 9.00am on saturday the 24th, adding to my very sleepless and hectic schedule.
metric is playing here in vancouver on oct.30th, after hearing the new album i'm pretty sure i have to add that show to my list as well. what with metric, CC, BSS and stars all coming to town, it seems as though the whole city of toronto is coming to visit. i love it.
-
Man, I need to move. The last thing interesting here was 'Cats' in May.
-
Dentist appointments: The crazy, party life continues.
I seem to remember a chapter from Motley Crue's The Dirt named that.
-
Oct 4. - Strung Out / Bane / Comeback Kid / The Reason
Oct. 13 - Ted Leo and the Pharmacist / North of America / Sharp Like Knives
-
8 oct. - decemberists with..uh..whomever. don't care.
22 oct. - death cab for cutie w/ stars
i don't really care about death cab, i just want to see stars..

this weekend's concerts have come and gone, and were amazing. friday's show was sadly mostly a blur because we stopped by a bar on the way to the show and i saw absinthe on the drinklist, and had a few too many, followed by many too many of many too many different drinks at the show itself (remind me next time that an anticipated show is not a good time to drink away a hard work week, mmkay?). fun times were had anyhow, i loved immaculate machine's closing song "so cynical", all three were belting it out full force. destroyer's set was mostly spent talking to friends but when new porn came on i was pretty much front center and loving it. highlights were bleeding heart show and stacked crooked, from blown speakers was also awesome. wish i had more to say on this show but it is all just a smiling blur.
saturday night's show took place in what literally looked like some sort of crack motel, on the worst part of east hastings (which if you have ever been to vancouver know is the dirtiest area in north america). there was one door in and out of the venue, with plywood nailing shut some of the rooms, no running water in the washrooms, and no windows. everyone was sweating quite convincingly, and each artist swore at the heat. dr. dog opened the set, i have never heard there music before but was pleasantly surprised by what seemed like a very jam-rock, mid-60's feel with plenty of crow-cawwing noises and improvisation. they even played in pitch black when the lights went out. everyone waited in the excruciating humidity and heat for wolf parade to come on, and when they finally did it was all worth it. the set had a looping korg throughout in the background which added a weird sort of trancey feel to the performance, and the vocals were even better than on the albums.
one of the band member's father and grandfather were in the audience, everyone gave gramps a cheer at the end of the set for sticking out the heat. next were architecture in helsinki, whose set was awesome but seemed sloppier than the last time i saw the band a few months back... still, they are an awesome stage presence, and seeing them scurrying around like mice changing positions and instrument 10 times each song is amazing. the encore for the performance had all the members of EACH BAND come back onstage and play "do the whirlwind". fucking amazing. 15 people all sweating like they had the plague and beating away at every instrument within reach, for 10 glorious minutes.
nothing interesting productwise was seen at the new porn/destroyers/immaculate machines show, but at the aih/wolf parade show i spent some cash money. click (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a43/joshmckeensilver/Picture1.jpg) to become insanely jealous and/or furious at me for buying goods from hype bands. i'd already stolen all of their music from the internets anywhoo, an the shirts were nice and fitted.
oh. and i slept/was hungover through my saturday morning dentist appointment. fuckitty.
sigur ros tomorrow, i have friends in from out of town to see them too, should be a blast!

The Decemberists are hitting near me REAL soon, but I'm not gonna go alone, so I guess I miss it. lol.
But DAMN, some of you have nice concert lists. I'm rather jealous.

Oct 5th The Robot Ate Me: Gabes Oasis IA City
Oct 7th A band from NY is playing in my friend's basement With a potluck first. Should be fun.

Nov.9 Kites/Nautical Almanac/THEUSAISAMONSTER ? IA city

-
Bad Religion in early November. Haven't really been into em for the last year, but I've got quite a few of their albums from a few years back; and I've always wanted to see 'em live.
Broken Social Scene would be a week or two after that, can't remember the exact date.
-
Sunday - Sept. 25th - Headfuk Showcase at Decibel Festival featuring Isolee and Thomas Fehlmann. Great show.
Next weekend - October 1st - KEXP Benefit featuring M83, The National, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Athlete, Math & Physics Club, John Vanderslice
That's about it for me foreseeably. Oh, and BSS in November.
-
Sweet oyster sauce! Joshuasaurus, I'd be practically going to all the same shows as you are if only I was
a.) no longer a minor
b.) had mula. mula mula.
Since I do not qualify for any of the above, i'm going to
10. 7 : The Arcade Fire/Wolf Parade/Bell Orchestre
10. 30: Metric/The Most Serene Republic/The Lovely Feathers
-

Hey. For the Vancouverite(s), where is PNE Forum anyway? (the venue for the Arcade Fire). Is it in close vicinity of you know, the theme park PNE?

10/10 - The Decemberists
10/11 - The New Pornographers
10/12 - The Fiery Furnaces
-
i wish bands came out to australia more oftenly.

I'll be attending these in San Diego

Oct 15 Architecture in Helsinki
Oct 17 Iron & Wine
Beck, LCD Sound System, and the New Pornographers are also playing this month but I don't think I'll be able to make it those. Four concerts is all I can really manage in a month.

18/10/05 - 65 Days of Static/Youth movie Soundtrack Strategies @ Moshulu in Aberdeen! Yay!
11/11/05 - Sleater Kinney @ Oran Mor in glasgow
12/12/05 - Biffy Clyro @ King Tuts in glasgow (kind of most excited about this one)
unfortunately i'm missing four tet/explosions in the sky. might go see The Wedding Present on the 14th of november since they're playing Aberdeen.
-
CoonStar: PNE Forum is at 100 N Renfrew Street, and is quite close to the PNE itself. See you there, I guess.
-
supposably arcade fire is doing an aussie tour sometime next year...
also they could have a new album next year, since they released a new single not so long ago from my understanding
