Hokay, to celebrate the tenth "episode" of my radio show on ye olde campus station, I want to make a playlist of songs with hand clapping in them. Any suggestions? My format is pretty "indie rock/pop," so in other words, like many many other campus radio shows.
Oh, Canadian content is good, too. :)

there are some good hand claps in Senaca by Tortoise on Standards

broken social scene - stars and sons

That's it, topic closed. Unless you want to include Radiohead's "We Suck Young Blood".
Thank Jesus this wasnt a topic for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
-
Although they ARE awesome.
Um, would Ma Jolie by Bear Vs. Shark count?
Also:
The Ponys - I'm With You
Mock Orange - This Nation
Radiohead - We Suck Young Blood
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood
I think that last one had handclaps...I'll have to listen to it again.
-
Muse - Time is running out
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.
<3 Muse
-
Jet has a few tracks with hand clapping, if I remember correctly.
-
All I could think of when I heard the title of this thread was "Apache" by Sugarhill Gang. Then subsequently, the original video for Apache by Tommy Seebach: http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2668101
-
Um, would Ma Jolie by Bear Vs. Shark count?
Yes. Always.
I also think some Q and Not U and Les Savy Fav could work.
-
Ben Folds has a song off his first solo disk called "Zak and Sara" where the handclaps directly proceed the line "Because at home they got her slapped" which is hilarious to hear.
Plus, Nancy Sinatra has a great song ("Don't Let Him Waste Your Time") that features handclaps.
And I third "Stars and Sons."
-
Jet has a few tracks with hand clapping, if I remember correctly.
Maybe, but why would anyone want to play Jet on any radio show, let alone a college radio show?
I will second (or third or whatever) 'We Suck Young Blood'... I know there are heaps more handclap songs that I like, but i just can't think of any...
PS: Jet suck.
-
No YOU suck.
-
It's fine with me if you don't like a band, but you don't have to say it over and over again. Then again, in comparison to others, you're hardly guilty of that...
-
I think saying it once should suffice.
-
Anything worth saying once is worth repeating.
Speaking of which, I just saw 40 Year Old Virgin yesterday, so I must share a quote...
You know how I know you're gay? You listen to Coldplay.
Yep.
But on topic...
Thinking on it, and there's some The (International) Noise Conspiracy that uses handclaps.
-
Oh gawsh, I love hand clapping in songs, when I first saw this I thought BSS - Stars and Sons, but thats been second'd and third'd already so:
Architecture in Helsinki - It'5
I'm sure I got more but thats it for now. YAY CLAPPING...er.
-
Bloc Party's "Banquet" or "Price Of Gas."
Also, if you want to PISS YOUR LISTENERS OFF, try The A-Frames' "Galena." Most menacing handclaps ever.
-
Harpoons of Love by Thunderbirds Are Now!
and
Kissing the Lipless by The Shins (I realise that the claps are only at the beginning, but they are excellent nonetheless)
-
Uh..."Mickey" by Toni Basil?
-
Darren Hanlon's "And the Days Were Just Packed". It's on the "Hiccups" single/mini-E.P. - though I don't know how widely available that is outside Australia (other than through mail order via Candle Records (http://www.candlerecords.com.au).) But it's happy-clappy in the best possible way!
EDIT: Also Toni Basil - hell yes!!!
-
Uh..."Mickey" by Toni Basil?
No YOU suck.
-
Spoon's "Merchants of Soul" has some great handclaps
-
Oh shit yeah! HANDCLAP DUEL
-
Even though theres no actual hand-clapping, The Unicorns - The Clap, regardless.
Because we all need a little more 'Cornz daily.
-
Even though theres no actual hand-clapping, The Unicorns - The Clap, regardless.
It could be the lead-in, demanding that everyone "clap their hands if they want some", et cetera!
-
New face of zero and one by the new pornographers. And they're Canadian.
-
i think i'll make a "Handclaps" genre in iTunes.
-
Also:
Disconnect the Dots - Of Montréal
Rapture Rapes the Muses - Of Montréal
Intensify - !!!
Kissing the Lipless - The Shins
-
The Sugarplastic - Little Ash Statue
Radiohead - We Suck Young Blood
(not indie, just great) Tomahawk - Jockstrap
Do those three. They all work for college radio and are also all really pretty decent songs.
-
Just for something completely different, the best hand-claps I've ever heard on record are in Charles Mingus's "Better Git it in Your Soul", off Mingus Ah Um. Booker Ervin takes a great tenor sax solo, the first part of which is backed only by hand-claps. Awesome.
-
OOOOMMMMMGGGGG. I can't beleive I forgot "Better Git it in Your Soul". Catchiest hard-bop song ever ever ever. Hurray 6/4 time!
-
Oh shit yeah! HANDCLAP DUEL
In retrospect, I was thinking not of "Merchants Of Soul" when I wrote this, but rather "They Never Got You." Which has the most crazy-fun handclaps probably ever recorded.
-
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Squeaky Fingers.
-
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Timorous Me
-
Constantines - Insectivora
-
New Slang has some clapping in the background.
-
Constantines - Insectivora
You are correct, sir.
-
Mr. Bungle - The Air Conditioned Nightmare
I wasn't sure if this had any hand claps, but I went back and check it out and there are in fact a couple of hand clappings in here. This song is teh carrrrrzzzzyyyy!!!1!

Weezer - Photograph
Beck - Where It's At

-
But...seriously...Ma Jolie.
-
broken social scene - stars and sons

-
End the Washington Monument (Blinks) Goodnight by Q and not U
I think you're thinking of "A Line in the Sand", which is really heavy on handclaps at the end. Washington Monument is a great song, regardless.
-
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - The Weeping Song has handclaps in the chorus and that song in my slightly humble opinion rock.
And if you don't play it, Stagger Lee will come after you!
seriously don't mess with that guy, he's nuts
-
End the Washington Monument (Blinks) Goodnight by Q and not U
I think you're thinking of "A Line in the Sand", which is really heavy on handclaps at the end. Washington Monument is a great song, regardless.
