Right, this has been bugging a friend of mine for 2 years and is now bugging the hell out of me as well. Just what the hell is this song?

His 'helpful' additional info extends to 'it's kind of old rock or something'. So feel free to help at least 2 people out by getting this, as well as probably earning the right to mock me for not knowing it in the first place when it turns out to be ridiculously obvious... :)
Oh and as this is my first post... hi, I guess :p

It sounds vaugely familiar, and if that's true then it's probably some pop-punk song from the mid to late ninties, since, although I hate to admit it, it's what I listened to back then.
Good places to start might be Blink 182 or Sublime or something.
-
it won't work for me, but i must say that i'm appauled that you would put blink 182 and sublime in the same category
-
I didn't put them into any category, I just listed things I listened to when I was 12.
Geez, you indie kids and your genres.
-
Well, I'm sure I've heard it before, but can't place a name for it. As for the recording you linked, that's you playing it, right?
-
That's a generic 50's-rock-style chord progression if I ever heard one.
-
That would be crazy on you by Heart.
-
Terror Squad - Lean Back

Not me, but definitely not the band. I'm assured that's EXACTLY how it sounds, however...
-
It sounds remarkably much like a song by a totally unknown little pop punk band I once stumbled onto on PureVolume...
-
sounds like heart- 'crazy on you' to me
edit: didn't see beatpunkus already said it ;p
-
Crazy On You is a LOT slower, also the distortion isn't just because he can't work an amp, that's actually how it sounds.
-
Eesh. Man, the root progression is way generic. Blink 182 used the major (3/5/7) variant of it in "Damnit", but not the scale that's with it in that mp3. And it's definately not Heart, the riff in that song doesn't change it's root (http://www.fretplay.com/tabs/h/heart/crazy_on_you-tab.shtml). Anyone verify "Terror Squad - Lean Back"?
