Edit: Please don't complain if your favorite compainy isn't on the poll, it's not a big deal, there's an invisible option that says "No." Tell me about why your favorite company is your favorite. Thanks.
Okay! Tell me what your favorite game company is!
Rules:
1. You should probably have at least three reasons for liking them, and no more than 33.3% and a moose should be "Because they made Final Fantasy dude yo shiz!"
2. You can only have one favorite, because otherwise they will get jealous of each other.
3. Don't be mean to other people's favorites or argue about stupid stuff like how the company sold out or are evil now or why one of them sucks just assume everyone is saying "they are my favorite when they were at their best".
4. Make sure to list the top 3 best games or series!
5. If someone else has the same favorite, make sure to recommend games to them that they didn't mention, or at least have different reasons for them being favorite. Recommend games if you have a different favorite too! Extra points if the game is old enough to be 10 dollars but not so old that it can't be found.
My favorite is Sierra!
My favorite games from them are:
QFG Series
Kings Quest
Dr. Brain
Phantasmagoria (Oh my gosh scary and it has real people, revolutionary!)
Bard's Tale and Space Quest looked good but I haven't played them.
Reasons why they are my favorite:
1. They do adventure right!
2. They are funny! (You have to find all the mooses and you can solve things with pizza and there are lots of evil scientists and they have excellant taste in movie, television and old fairy tale refrences.)
3. They are good at characters.
4. Happy memories.
5. Pretty pixels.
What is your favorite? Go now!
-
I have to go with Nintendo on this one. However, just to clarify:
Sierra did indeed make Dr. Brain, in addition to the Caesar series, both of which were pretty good.
And, of course, LucasArts has the Star Wars games that I've always liked to play.
But, Nintendo has so many games that I've gotten addicted to over & over again, I really couldn't live without them. So there.
3 favorite games? Well, Super Mario Bros 1, 2, & 3 go without saying, of course. Then there's the Donkey Kong Country series, and of course you have the Super Mario World series.
...Is that cheating?
-
Jeez, trying to decide between Square and Nintendo is harder than I thought.
-
No, there isn't really cheating.
-
Lucasarts.
3 best games of the label.
Monkey Island I
Monkey Island II
Monkey Island III
Plus the star wars games aren't half bad either.
-
If Lucasarts were still making MI games, I might vote for them, but I don't really like te stuff they're making these days. The MI team isn't even part of Lucasarts anymore. :(
I'm gonna go with Rare. They've always impressed me with their games. I loved the Donkey Kong Country games. They were easily some of the best games on SNES. They also really pushed the limits of whatever system they were working with. DKC had beautiful graphics and great gameplay for SNES, Conker's Bad Fur Day was awesome for N64, and the new games coming out for XB360 don't look half bad either.
Overall, Rare has just kept it together throughout the years and is definitely one of my favorite developers, if not actually number 1.
EDIT: Well, I made it pretty clear in what I wrote, but top 3 games:
1. Donkey Kong Country
2. Conker's Bad Fur Day
3. Donkey Kong Country 3
-
Nintendo, for making the only game consoles i like, and the games i remember most from my childhood
blizzard came a close second becasue of warcraft 2 + expansion, diablo 2 + expansion, and world of warcraft (+soon to be expansion)
-
This isn't a poll topic. There are too many companies out there.
-
Honestly I would go with Nintendo, but just for the sake of introducing new names to the mix I'm going to vote UGA. United Game Artists developed Rez and Space Channel 5. I wish I could name 3 games, but their previous titles were even lesser known than those two.
EDIT: Oo, Nippon Ichi is a strong contender right now. I love their games, and I love their approach to the marketplace.

*poof*

Atari: Galaga r00lz!
Actually, right now I'm playing nwn, and it makes me happyful. Shadowdancers for life... word.
-
Why aren't Konami, Capcom, Activision, Namco, or even Sega on that poll? Actually, I have a hard time choosing between just those. My IGN collection list says that Konami is my favorite developer and Nintendo is my favorite publisher.

wow, you named every company i was about to.
-
I'm afraid I have to go with Nintendo.
Reasons:
1) HAUGHGUAHA LEGEND OF ZELDA HAUGHAUGH
2) Nintendo is what got me started on gaming. I had an atari before that, and it was alright. a good way to waste five minutes.. Then, one christmas morning there was a little grey box, with this GIANT gray cartridge next to it. Hello Super Mario Brothers! I was never the same again.
3) They consistantly do things that make me say "What the bloody shitfuck?" when I see them, but then make me say "Oh sweet mercy. does anyone have a towel?" when I use them.
4) The fact that despite the fact that they had to push back Twilight Princess, they are still releasing it on the Game Cube. Which shows atleast some loyalty to their customers. I respect that.
5) Their Hand-helds are amazing. Expecially the way that they put the GBA and the Game Cube together with that Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords thing. That was fucking awesome, and I have never seen anyone do anything similar.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of other developers have put out some awesome games, and very innovative ideas, but Nintendo takes the cake for me.
3 Favorite games? I'm going to have to pick series of games, because there are so many in each series.
LOZ, of course.
Super Mario Brothers series.
Metroid, of course.

No complaining about the poll, there is a poll because polls are fun, ad there isn't enough room, if you wanted differnt companies, you should have made your own. No one is reccomending things.
-
I'd have to say Square (terribly cliche, but bite me.) My favorite game of all time by them has to be Chrono Trigger - yes I'm a fanboy. My reasons are pretty simple, 1) they do a great story. 2) I love the multiple-ending idea, when I played that game earlier in years that blew me away. 3) The graphics and animations, even back then, were pretty smooth.
-
They've basically deteriorated over the years. Most of the good people have left. Now you have Sacnoth and Mistwalker carrying the torch. Sacnoth made the Shadow Hearts series and Mistwalker is the concept-company created by the original creator of Final Fantasy, Sakaguchi. They're currently working on games for the XBOX 360 and the Nintendo DS. They're totally freelance, so I'm expecting some platform-jumping.
Also, Enix owns. Old Square wins, though.

SSI
Strategygames rock!
-
Also, D&D rocks!
-
Wizards of the Coast FTW

No valve?
Valve has given me more entertainment than any game company ever.
-
Origin and Microprose, because it's impossible to choose between Wing Commander and Civilization. :P
And yes, both companies were far better before they sold-out. ;)
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned id...

I voted Nintendo because my favorite systems are made by them: DS, Gameboy, and SNES.
...but, Black Isle was my favorite game company.
1. Fallout
2. Fallout 2
3. Baldur's Gate
Seriously, those games had me so addicted. Fallout 1 is my favorite game, ever. Open ended, great story, post apocalyptic, well designed, superb soundtrack, very immersive, harsh dialog. Too much to say, its just my favorite game. If you havent played it, do yourself a favor and try it (most stores carry 1&2 in the bargain bin for about $7 anymore). Turn-based post apocalyptic RPG, designed for all types of rpg players - the game can be played through as an action combat type, sneaky type, you can even win with just dialog.
Great game designers, all their games have good soundtracks, all their games have good replay value. yah. Alas, interplay killed Black Isle, thus ending my hopes for Fallout 3 to destroy my real life. Best RPG's came from them, in my opinion.
-
I voted Sierra cause they distribute for Valve I believe.
Valve roxx0r my soxx0rs.
HL
Hl2
DoD
All good games. HL and HL2 have both been voted best game ever made by various game mags/sites so that's enough really.
-
Ambrosia Software :) Ferazel's Wand and the EV series FTW. Blizzard and Sierra do rock though. I've been playing QFG4 lately; I wish people still knew how to make RPGs like that...

That's pretty much my opinion on the matter. Also, there have been rumors occaisonally that Bethesda (Elder Scrolls series) have picked up the Fallout franchise.
-
Looking Glass.
And, by extension, Irrational Games and Ion Storm (the Warren Spector one, not the John Romero one).
Thief, Deus Ex, System Shock 1 & 2, Terra Nova...can they do no wrong?
-
What, no Valve? :)
In terms of sheer time put into gaming - Ravensoft.
-
Sadly Maxis is absent :(
-
Nippon Ichi all the way. you want three reasons? fine, here they are:
Disgaea
Makai Kingdom
Phantom Brave
ok, so phantom brave is a metaphorical candle compared the nuclear furnace that is disgaea, but they are still all good. C'mon, a game where you're a jackass kid with nothing but a scarf and an army of snarky demons? Now thats more fun than jessica simpson on extacy!
-
Nippon Ichi represents everything I hate about Strategy RPG's. Their only game that was at all good wasn't even developed by them. That game was Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana.

You're such a poopyhead. *sticks out tongue*

PFFFT. You don't even have the best one listed. Working Designs.

You guys, stop complainig about the poll, just pretend there is an option that says "No" and tell everybody why your favorite is your favorite. Then worry about more important things, like that small bird pondering making her home on your windowsil, and how you can discourage her from making birdy calls and kissy faces there every morning at 4:55.
Lil' slut.
Also, stop being negetive little poopyshoes sometimes. You're all angry at each other and it's making me sad! :(
My other favorite video game company is The Tetris Company, because they made Tetris. If you haven't played Tetris, go check it out. Beep beep!
-
Coincidentally, just yesterday I was reading about the shenanigans behind Tetris:

-
You ruined Tetris.

Although, usually they fuck up the difficulty.
I cannot deny the awesomeness that is the localization of Lunar and Lunar:EB, Alundra, and Grandia. Hardcore.
