Okay.
I would like to know why people care what other people listen to. People have different tastes, and it doesn't matter if you think a band that someone else likes sucks. It doesn't automatically make this person inferior. Sorry, just different tastes.
People listen to music for different reasons. I usually listen to it so that I can sort of.. experience it, interpret the rhythms, and whatnot. Music intended for listening rather than dancing or something. Sometimes I listen to music as background noise, or perhaps to help me get to sleep. Depends on what's going on.
Music expresses emotion, and a lot of people listen to it because it might be relatable. Depressed people will probably listen to depressing music, etc. Alternatively, music might cheer you up, or just.. whatever. It really doesn't matter what you like. We all interpret sound differently, so all musical preference is subjective.
It's pretty pointless to argue about musical taste seriously.
I just think it kind of sucks when people attempt to make certain people feel bad for liking music they honestly enjoy. :P
-
Because I am right and they are wrong.
We've had this kind of topic before. Here's the lowdown on how it goes:
1. Why can't we all just agree to disagree?
2. Because just because we have different opinions doesn't mean we can't express them.
3. Yes but do you have to be such a dick about it?
4. Yes. Yes I do.
5. Anyway, we all know you hate Coldplay.
sp2. I know! And I'm never going to stop saying it, bitches!
-
I think people just need something to be angry about. >;o

Because Fuck You!

on the internet people forget politeness. it's sort of rage against everybodyyyy. sort of like a big dick comparing contest...or something

Dongs?

No, no, no....

In all seriousness, though, I've always felt that if someone truly express thier like/dislike of a band, then other people can then tell thier tastes, so if they recommend a band, you'll know whether thier "good" is your "good" or not. At least that's what I take from it usually. People can talk shit about the bands I love all they want. I just won't listen to them when they recommend music later down the road.
For example, I am, and forever will be, a HUGE nine inch nails fan. I've seen threads ripping them apart. Feh. Oh well. I don't agree with those people then. I guess I'm just really easy going when it comes to this stuff.

I for one am all about internet niceities. We have synonyms for a reason, so use diplomatic language, assholes.
EDIT: btw read these (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/viewtopic.php?t=5617) kthxbye

I believe that opinions are the ONLY thing that people can argue about.
One can hardly argue against facts.
And that fact is that my musical taste is better than dongs.
-
And, regardless of how politically correct you want to be, you can often tell a lot about people from what they listen to. From past experience, I've found that mainstream pop-punk and gangsta rap fans tend to be on the less priviledged end of the maturity scale (in slightly different ways). People who are into synth pop, and 8 bit tend to be more interesting, left of centre type people. The important word there is tend, you have to remember that people generally don't follow rules.

ahahahahaha dongs rule the world bitches
-
I'm listening to techno remixes of Burzum songs that I mixed myself.
Clearly I am on a plain of musical taste far, far above (or at least beyond) the comprehension of you all.
Also, being nice to people sounds like political correctness, and political correctness is the suck. How about, lets be nasty to people wittily. That's much more fun.
-
I'm going to quote myself because I fucking can.
"I'm as politically incorrect as the Russians are poor."
Needless to say, there was, by pure coincedence, a Russian girl nearby. I don't think she heard, but still.
-
Because bad taste in music CAN hurt innocent passers-by.
Have you ever experienced a Drive-By My Sharona-ing?

It took me 3 years of therapy to convince me that that particular experience never took place.

Is it the plane of double posts?
My music tastes are on the elemental plane of AWESOME.
Coldplay is from the elemental plane of suck.
-
My post is appearing in both dimensions and they are overlapping each other!
Also I can't find the delete button.

It only works if your post is the last post in a thread.
Or if you send me copious gifts of money, whiskey, fine cigars and luxury motor vehicles.
-
What the hell is this thread about anyway? Isnt it pretty obvious that this forum is for talking about music, which is going to sometimes involve expressing opinions of it?
Theres nothing wrong with making judgements on a person by the music they listen to. People do the same based on how people dress, how they talk, and how they act. Personally, i see nothing wrong with considering a taste for crappy pop music as a sign of immaturity.
There is no end to the "different tastes" argument. Okay, so theres nothing wrong with liking good charlottle, that doesnt make you a immature child, its just different tastes. Theres nothing wrong with sleeping with your sister, that doesnt make you a sicko, its just different tastes. Theres nothing with wandering around the park dressed in a tutu and a collander, it doesnt make you insane, its just different tastes.

this could be a fun game.
FINE
there's NOTHING AT ALLLLLL wrong with violating your cat analy.
IT'S JUST DIFFRENT TASTES!!!!!

Hey, DAMMIT, I listen to pop-punk and am pretty sure I'm as mature as a 23 year old needs to be. I have a career chosen and am actually settling down into it, I am getting married AND already had a mortgage.
Mih, Your get out clause was pathetic, If people dont follow rules then how can you make a generalisation? :|
(by the way, am not taking offense just discussing your ideas, before I get told to get yet ANOTHER humour transplant)

Ive found a way around it! Now this might seem like an impossible thing to do, but i have avoided MTVs cold clutches! the method is simple. I just dont own a TV! genius or what?

Yeah? Well... well... well, it's probably a really immature mortgage.
-
Yeah, the most immature of mortgages! One for a falling down wreck that I lived in with a pot dealer who was 65!
I ditched the dealer and sold the wreck, am now looking forward to moving into a nice house with a HOUSEWIDE speaker system, hell yes'm! Pity my new neighbours, they sha;l be listening to my music all day and all night in EVERY ROOM! woo!
-
I don't think someone who listens to a particular genre is necessarily immature; there are plenty of people who completely ignore lyrical content of songs and just pay attention to the music. Furthermore, most people don't take lyrics seriously. I listen to Slayer, but that doesn't make me a devil-worshipping... uh... devil-worshipper.
I think the lyrics to most rap are pretty stupid, but they don't bother a lot of people, or they just don't care about the lyrics and listen to the beat and the way said lyrics are delivered.
-
I listen to rap for the rhythm. You have to admit, there's some humor to be found in lyrics oftentimes, but if you ever (and some of you won't, granted) feel that you need to take a break from rocking to do some jumpin', then that's when you pop in Dr. Dre or something. Multiple rhymes and rhythm combine to make some pretty awesome stuff when it's done right.
-
See, this is why we can't understand why you all hate "I Just Wanna Live" so much. It has everything Luke just described, rhyme & rhythm.
-

I don't want to look defensive here, but I have to disagree on the point of most rap lyrics being inane. Of course, there are alot of people out there who listen for the beat and don't examine the words, which is valid. But I believe that there is a heck of alot of artists who are putting out stuff that is clever and challenging.

I'm just speaking from personal experience here, though. It's quite possible I've only been exposed to mainstream stuff.
-
That is true. Alot of mainstream rap, though there are a good number of exceptions, seems to me to be without artistic merit.
-
(Friendly reminder: quoting the entire post of the person above you is redundant)
I have to agree with the both of you. It just depends on who you're listening to. The stereotypical rap lyric involves pulling out your gat if anybody offends you, or getting head from a girl and taking her money, or making it out of the hood, and so on and so forth. Almost any mainstream hiphop artist will put out an album that's at least half-stereotypical like that, but there is always something on the album that involves much more meaningful lyrics that a greater audience can relate with.
GC: I Just Wanna Live isn't hiphop just because you're trying to look like a rapper in your video. Aren't you wearing a damned strawberry outfit anyway?

You're a gimmick.
Stop posting.
And breathing.
I know you're probably dead by now, being the impressionable idiots with no identities that you are.

(Friendly reminder: quoting the entire post of the person above you is redundant)
I'm too neurotic to post without quoting who I'm replying to. :( I'm always afraid I'll inadverently post something extremely offensive due to bad timing.
-
Someone will say something like "I saw American Analogue Set. What do you guys think?" And then you'll say something to the extent of "I hate those motherfuckers. If they dropped off the face of the earth, I would rejoice."
But, unfortunately for you, someone posted something along the lines of "Did anyone else see an inordinate number of Hasitic (I have no clue how to spell it) jews at the concert?" and you will come off looking like an asshole and everyone will give you funny eyes over the Internet.
-
Merkava: I admire what you're tryin' to do. But don't feed the trolls.
Anyways, uh, what was the topic of this thread again?

I listen to Slayer, but that doesn't make me a devil-worshipping... uh... devil-worshipper.

Are you a mod? Since when do you have the authority to tell us to stop posting on these forums? This is the music forum, and we make fucking awesome music, so why shouldn't we post here? Shut your fucking mouth if you don't have anything good to say to us.
