what instrument and/or band do you play in?
for me: i play the french horn (shut up, it's a COOL instrument to play when you're good at it) and i play for my highschool's wind ensemble (highest band)
your turn
-
HURR HURR BAND CAMP HURR PIE HURR
Anyway
Guitar, harmonica, bodhran. I can play the keyboard/piano a bit, but only if someone tells me where middle C is. I can probably still play the flute and recorder.
-
Learning to play guitar.
Plan to learn drums in the future.
-
Used to be able to play: French horn, trumpet, saxamaphone (back in middle school, so I've totally forgotten everything more or less)
Still play: guitar, some bass
-
completely devoid of any musical talent.
Tried to play the drums but found I couldn't keep time.
-
Sometimes I play bass, sometimes I play trumpet. Sometimes I even play with other people.
But mostly, I just play with myself.
-
Tried to play the drums but found I couldn't keep time.
yeah, that is kinda the point of drums
-
Anyone play the theremin? 'Cause those things are totally fucking awesome.
-
The question I really want to ask is, do samplers, synthesisers, sequencers and whatnot count as instruments in your guys estimation?
I make most of my musics with those things.
-
bass guitar
-

what the heck is a "theremin"? i've never heard of that.
The question I really want to ask is, do samplers, synthesisers, sequencers and whatnot count as instruments in your guys estimation?
no, i don't think they do, but that's just my opinion
-
a thermin is an electronic instrument that creates sound via feedback from its electro-magnetic field. I believe. Possibly.
-
Yeah.
A) It sounds totally awesome
and
B) It looks hella impressive when it's played live.
-
There used to be a guy in Melbourne who dressed up in a robot suit and busked with a small theremin.
-
Rocket Science make good use of a theremin on there early stuff
-
I used to play clarinet, play tenor saxophone currently, and am learning to play guitar. It's really difficult to practice when I have to work around both school and work. I'm probably going to take it up more seriously during the summer.
-
Isn't playing a Theremin mainly a matter of owning a Theremin?
I'd like to make one. It's much, much cheaper than buying one.
-
I think it sort of depends on how you want to play it. I mean, you can get sound out of it no matter what, but maintaining the right pitches and volume and such is much more difficult.
-
Guitar. I used to play violin when I was younger. I'm also in a band with some other people.
I'm suppose to play a song or two soon at my school's art..thingy.
-
First learnt to play violin when I was a little 'un, then learnt clarinet to a fairly proficient level. Can get a few scales out on trumpet, oboe and maybe alto and soprano sax if I'm having a good day. These days I only really play guitar (acoustic, for preference, although banging out a drunken rendition of Voodoo Chile on my best mate's Strat the other night was a lot of fun) and a tiny bit of piano when I'm in the mood.
I also play the fool. And DJ a little bit too.
-
everyone seems to play a lot of instruments here... feel kinda untalented now. guess i like to just get really good at the one instrument i play (french horn)
-
Hey, don't feel down. You can always play with yourself.
-
i play acoustic guitar, mandolin, ukulele, electric guitar, violin, piano, tener saxophone, baritone saxophone, banjo, classical guitar, bass guitar, slide guitar...
i think that's it
-
I can play guitar. Or at least I could the last time I picked mine up…
Also theremins ftw!
-
Guitar, bass, A tad bit of harmonica, violin, banjo, and mandolin. I totally kick ass.
-

What does FTW mean?
For The Win. Sort of like 'w00t', and equally widespread among MMORPG geeks.
-

Actually, some friends of mine got thier shit together and put one together. Only cost them $50. It sounded terrible, as they lacked both the ability and energy to tune it properly. So yes, I have in fact played a Theramin.
-
I can play a piano... only boring, classical stuff, though.
I can also play my fingernails, which annoys the hell out of most people.
-
I have been offered a used Moog theramin for 100 U.S. money. Unfortunately, I have no moneys right now. But yes, theramins ftw indeed.
I play guitar, and to some degree, bass, balalika, and keyboards. I can play pretty much any stringed instrument put in front of me. I am totally horrid at drums and anything involving my mouth (hurr sexjoke hurrrr) including singing.
@Khar: If you are really good with them, mixers and such are fair-play as instruments.
-
$100 for a Moog theremin. Sheesh. You should FIND the money. It's totally worth it.
-
Accordian, mini chord organ.
And no worries about french horn; didn't John Entswhile play that as well? Someone from the Who did.
-
I play Bass guitar like a mofo, and regular guitar passingly.
-
i have not encountered an instrument i cannot make sounds on. all wind instruments i've tried i can keep in tune, too. although on metal flutes i've never been able to get rid of that double-tone thing.
used to play guitar, but decided to quit when every other person i knew (at the time) played it too.
tried to teach myself drums (back when i worked in a music store, mostly just to pass the time), which worked ok, but then just kinda quit. bugging my little brother (probably gonna be perc major, he is, or at least a minor) into re-teaching me.
i have a collection of wooden flutes that i love. my favourites are mayan panpipes, a bird call thingy, dragon whistle i got at georgia renfest, and a bali flute.
i've been working on the 'pipes for several years now, and when i go out to my friend clayton's farm to practice with him his goats go nuts because we make more obnoxious (and louder!) noise than them. i have to say i am pretty good, too. although i haven't practised in a while, as my set needs a new bag. (made in peru, in the thirties! ftw!)
played trumpet for more than ten years. i love my trumpet. i'm definitely considering getting it as another minor. i play trumpet a lot. i am kickass! right now i am playing with the marching band.
HURR HURR BAND CAMP HURR PIE HURR
yes. in my experience it is quite like that. mostly because of pot, but yes.
do turntables count as instruments?

Instrument, followed by how good I am on it on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being Eric Clapton, 1 being the dude at the guitar shop who plays "Smoke on the Water".

Bass guitar (4)
Trombone (2)

In punk circles it means "Fuck The World". I've never heard For The Win till now. They both work I guess... but I prefer Fuck The World.
I play guitar well, bass ok, keyboard badly and I program ok. A friend of mine made his own theramin for about $150NZ so that's about $70US. It's not too difficult either, I believe there are tutorials on the web?
-
I have a harmonica, but don't know where to start learning how to play it.
One day, I wanna make a guitar. (electric, I'm no carpenter.)
-
I play(ed) drums, but I'm not great. I'm hella good with a recorder though. I can't read notes, but I can listen to a song one time, and a minute later I'll be able to play it on the recorder, in 2 different ways, if applicable. Recorders rock!
Also, would "voice" be considered an instrument? Everybody sings :)
-
I play drums, and I want to learn bass, guitar and saxophone sometime.
-
I miss my pianner.
-
Bass guitar is my weapon of choice. Oh yess...
Even though i never play sober.
-

Piano (9)
Modest bugger, aren't you?
-
Yeah.
A) It sounds totally awesome
and
B) It looks hella impressive when it's played live.
it´s also incredibly hard to play.
i play
- electric guitar
- bass guitar
- melodica
- the puter ( i mean, i can program a fm or a substractive synth. i can produce and i can use a sequencer)
want to learn piano, keyboard, and drums. and anything.
-
I play drums and have been for like the past 8 or 9 years, which is also the timespan I've had weekly lessons for. So I figure I'm quite okay.
I'm trying to teach myself bass and guitar, but my fingers are too stupid for guitar and I play bass solely as a rhythm instrument so the stuff I play is usually full of triplets and crap and not as melodic.
I don't play in a band because getting a practice room is impossible here unless you feel like shelling out 100 bucks / month. Which I don't have.
Also, most bands here are either stupid punk bands or emo bands (no need for a descriptive adjective here). I'ld rather play on my own than play in any of these bands.
-
I play guitar and sing.
-
I have a harmonica, but don't know where to start learning how to play it.
You just blow.
Seriously.
Well, ok, you need to have some grasp of music, and there's lot's of little techniques.
http://www.harmonicalessons.com/beginner.html seems a pretty decent place to start.
Also worth checking it's a decent harmonica btw. I have a decent one I can actually play recognisable songs on, and a POS tuned to some random and inhuman scale which I can just about play some generic hornpipes and whatnot on. I don't knock it though. I took it to a beach party on friday and busked for booze, fags and pretty much anything else. Got a good haul too.
-
Also, would "voice" be considered an instrument? Everybody sings :)
When I open my mouth, the last thing you'd call that is "music." Some of us are just not talented in that department.
it´s also incredibly hard to play.
All the more reason to learn.
-

Some of us are not talented on their instrument, yet play it anyway, because it's fun. To me, that's what music's all about :)
Spiff: I thought "emo" ifself was the negatively-descriptive adjective? :P
-
Let me put it this way. I would not sing in a band. I do sing loudly alone in the car while I'm pounding music at the highest possible music setting.
-
A voice can be considered an instrument, I think. Though I cannot claim that my voice is any instrument as I cannot sing very well. I do, however, play the Tenor Saxophone and the Sopranino saxophone in a small Jazz band called The Triads from Hell. When we do blues songs though, I tend to pull out the harmonica. I also play the piano and a very poor guitar (I don't know how to play very well). I also play the Viola, but am in search for a used Violin in good condition. Anyone have any suggestions?
-
I play guitar, bass, harmonica, I sing (a high tenor, can do harmonies by ear but can't sight read) I can play organ/piano/keyboards, percussion and I'm working on actual drumkits, mandolin...er...there might be more than that but I've lost track. I could give a ukelele a go probably.
I play in two..well, projects.
www.purevolume.com/inabial is the first one. That's my band that is deliberately shite, we make the worst music we possibly can, and yet have somehow sold over a dozen copies of the two albums we've put together in this year alone. We're already planning the third one. I know we're awful, any put-downs you can give me will be much appreciated.
www.purevolume.com/expendable is the actual one, which is just me on my own. This one is unintentionally shite...I know I'm terrible though. My recordings fall into two categories - 1. using my recording program properly, but due to sound card errors each different track I use is SLIGHTLY out of time. There's also the odd editing error. (the vocals cut out on Fifty thousand Miles at one point) 2. I just play it live with my acoustic, but I have to hunch over my computer mic, so I can't project very well and the recordings end up very quiet. Meh. Do your worst, I know it's dire. And that's not fishing for compliments.
-
sooo many people play guitar... you'd think it was some kind of fad or something!
-
Piano (9)
I will rule you on the piano.
Well, not that I know how well you play or anything, of course. I've been playing for 11 years now. I used to play nothing much other than the classical stuff I did for my piano lessons, but in recent years I've graduated myself into simply rocking out. I can play most songs by Coldplay and John Legend (I have songbooks for their albums), and I often like to pick up tunes by ear. "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey is one of my favorites. Finally, I've recently started writing my own stuff (hence the "rocking out" comment).
I give myself a 9 on the piano as well, just because there are pianists in this world who are far too awesome than myself to allow me to give myself a 10.
-

-
I've been playing piano for around 10 years, classical stuff mostly, but there are some other things I've been trying (Ben Folds Five, etc.) that I sing along with. I actually enjoy classical a lot now that my teacher lets me pick my own music.
I played clarinet for a few years, and I played the vibraphones, marimba, bells for around a year in good 'ole marching band (I never got good at any of 'em, though). Tried the French horn but I'm no good with brass instruments. I'd love to be able to play the cello and the accordion. Also, I've had a guitar sitting in my room for two years now, but I doubt I could play a chord if you asked me to.
-
You just blow.
There was other stuff but that's been culled for space
Thanks for the link. Now I have something other than reading forums to do instead of studying. Seriously, I pull my harmonica out every exam break but can never bring myself to turn music off and learn.
It's a Hohner Blues Harp in C btw.
-

Precisely my reasoning for giving myself a 9 as well, although I don't play a huge amount of Coldplay. I HAVE, however, written "Cruella De Vil improv jazz in G"
It also occurs to me that I'd LOVE to take up Clarinet. That has to be one of the most rockin' instruments ever.
-
Piano and bass guitar
-
I'm very much a beginner on the guitar. i know chords and i know how to play them on the guitar. that's it just now.
i also sing when the mood takes me, be it in the shower, at my girlfriend on the way to uni, doing the shopping etc.
-
But mostly, I just play with myself.
gross
I play a synthesizer. Its a Yamaha Tyros
Fucking Awesome
I use it with my pc and Adobe Audition to make some cool stuff. Not that good with Adobe Audition though :(
-
I consider it speed strumming training for when I pick up the guitar or banjo.
The rate I've been going recently, I'll be strumming faster than any guitarist, living or dead.
-

Strumming the beef curtain isn't as hard on the hands :-P

If you do this, we are totally starting a klez-metal band.
Also, I forgot to mension, I can get a bit of sound out of my brother's musical saw. He can play "Where is my Mind". On a fucking saw. He kicks your ass for that.
-
Watch the movie Dummy (http://imdb.com/title/tt0246592/combined) with Adrien Brody and Milla Jovovich. She starts a punk klez band that plays at the end of the movie. Totally sweet.
-
I am the best oboe player ever. Not kidding. I'll challenge anyone here to an oboe-duel.
Alright, so maybe I'm not the best player ever, but it is actually something that I'm pretty good at.
I also play some guitar, and I have very limited abilities in piano.

In elementary school, I remember that for a play one year some kids did The Wizard of Oz. One teacher played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on a saw. It was weird.
-
I am a rather skilled percussionist. Aparently, I am a master of time-keeping. I don't have much practice with the drum set, but I can play the secondary percussion instruments and kick out nice snare beats. :P
I'm starting to learn guitar. So far I've been dicking around on my acoustic guitar that I found in my grandparents attic. I think I may need to take lessons in order to become really good. So far I only know a handful of chords, but I can improvise, like with most instruments.
I can improvise nice, pretty parts on a piano as well. It's another percussion instrument, but it is played much differently, as most know. I can't jam out and go jazzy on the thing, but I can create some nice, simple arrangements. I guess I'm a "most effect with least notes" kind of guy. :P
Oh, and did someone say that "emo" itself is a negatively-descriptive adjective? You need to listen to some Rites of Spring, Embrace, and Nation of Ulysses.
-

Oh God, isn't it wonderful having natural rhythm? It's something that you just have or you don't and you can't teach to anyone, and it just makes you such a better musician...
-
It also occurs to me that I'd LOVE to take up Clarinet. That has to be one of the most rockin' instruments ever.
It also has one of the greatest ranges of possible sounds (not actual notes), which can make one song really interesting.
Damn, all this talk is making me think about picking it up again. I was never all that good though.
-

I'm just really lucky, I guess.
-
I play classical and jazz trombone, concert and marching (Bass Clef) Baritone/Euphonium, I can figure my way arond a piano and trumpet, and I am trying to self-teach myself the guitar. I am also an alright tenor/baritone vocalist.
I want to learn every orchestral and jazz instrument, but I should probably be more realalistic.
-
I'm learning bass. I've almost got Stars and Sons down.
-
Watch the movie Dummy with Adrien Brody and Milla Jovovich. She starts a punk klez band that plays at the end of the movie. Totally sweet.
This was mentioned to me when I made the Klezmetal thread oh so long ago.
Also, I can play my friend's toy accordian like a bitch. A COSMIC bitch. In the pants.
-

Yes. I love it!

Yes! I love that movie.
I play the guitar, bass, drums, piano, zither, accordion, recorder, harmonica, ukulele, didgeridoo, rain stick, pan flute, AND MARACAS.
-
Oh, man, don't even get me started making a list of the musical instruments I play.
On second thought, that's not such a bad idea. Makes it easier if you can read this shit off a list. I play the following noisemakers:
-Guitar (6 and 12 string electric and acoustic)
-Bass (4 and 5 string electric and acoustic)
-Drum kit (since 6th grade)
-Conga (yeah, that's right, latin-style music in high school jazz band owns your life)
-Mandolin
-Electric guitar w/ violin bow (Jimmy Page and Sigur Ros sytle, biatch)
-Singing (poorly, but at least I can hit the notes that Robert Plant hit back in the day)
For a sample of my work on the guitar, listen to the recordings on my band's myspace. OB/Gyn Kenobi, you're my only hope.
-
My best are the bass guitar and the trumpet, but I have a good grasp of the tuba, clarinet, flute and Alto sax.
Am currently between bands, I have hooked up with an awesome guitarist, but our drummer flaked out.
oh, yes, I also play the stereo.
-
I play the SPOONS!! 10 out of 10!
-

Okay, I looked at your Myspace site. Under influences, you mentioned BAP, which I figure is the band from Cologne.
That is rather interesting, I didn't think anyone outside of Germany would know them. Even if you live in Luxembourg, it's not that likely.
Care to elaborate?

Spaceman Spiff?
Are you near the planet Zog passing an asteroid?
...do you have very high insurance premiums?
-
Yes, I do. Insurances are awfully expensive if you're an interplanetary explorer extraordinaire who is free to roam the heavens in man's noble quest to investigate the weirdness of the universe, like me.
As of now, I've just managed to avoid getting zarched by Zorchers thanks to my trusty Turbo Hyper Thrust-Drive and I'm currently leaving the orbit of planet Z-12.
-
Awesome name Spaceman Spiff. Calvin and Hobbes rules. I am gonna buy a kit and learn to play a themerin.
-
does anyone know of a site that can teach me how to play a 7-hole ocrina? (no it's not the same kind of ocrina from the zelda game [that's only four holes])
-
-Guitar (6 and 12 string electric and acoustic)
-Bass (4 and 5 string electric and acoustic)
Show off much? It's pretty much a given that you can play electric and acoustic it. A 5 string bass takes very little extra effort, and 12 strings pretty much just take extra tuning.
Awesome name Spaceman Spiff. Calvin and Hobbes rules. I am gonna buy a kit and learn to play a themerin.
THEREMIN.
-
Main - Trumpet (I'm pretty good. Can usually get out double g's with a good tone for those of you who know what that is. Brass Pride.)
Secondary - French Horn, Alto Sax

A voice can be considered an instrument, I think. Though I cannot claim that my voice is any instrument as I cannot sing very well.
Yes, classical vocalists like to think of their voice as an instrument, both the easiest and hardest instrument to play. Like someone said, sure anyone can sing, but its incredibly difficult to gain full control of you voice. Operatic singers, who are unquestionably the best vocalists in the world, don't even begin to master their voices until their late 30s.
That being said, I'm a fairly good bass, on a good day I can hit a nice low C, which would make me a basso profundo. ;) I'm singing in my college's top chorale, out of the 3 total choirs. I also am actively engaged in lessons. Music is a big deal here at Valpo, my conductor directs a Bach Institute.
Other than that, I play decent metal rhythm guitar, passable acoustic, and novice classical guitar. I can do fairly well on bass too. And I had enough piano lessons that I can play basic chords and plunk out my vocal line.
-
A D-flat is typically the bottom of my range, but I've been known to go down to a B-flat while sick. The top of my chest-voice range is an F-sharp, or a G on a good day, but I've hit an A-flat before too. If I switch to my head voice (not falsetto, mind you), I can go almost 2 octaves higher to an E or an F. I've never tested the top of my falsetto range, mostly because it sounds awful.
So yeah, I can do anything a typical bass, tenor or alto could sing. I can sing soprano too, but it doesn't sound good at all.
-
So yeah, I can do anything a typical bass, tenor or alto could sing. I can sing soprano too, but it doesn't sound good at all.
Ooh, ahh!
Is there anything you can't do?
-
Be short!
-
I can play a piano... only boring, classical stuff, though.
Right let's get one think straight. Classical music is not boring, I mean it can be but so can rock. Classical music can be awsome on the piano. Now I'm not going to pretend I actualy buy many classical CD's (or now that I think about it any, but I'm poor) and yes most of the music I listen to is Rock/Pop but still I think classical music is given an unfair image.
Anyway I play piano with Okay skills. I want to buy an electric piano so that I can just mess with it in my room and try and rock out.
-
Screw electric piano, get an organ!
-
You point me to a cheap one and then hell yea!
-
point taken
-
Thankyou. Also I can plug headphones into an electric so as not to disturbe others with my bitchen' tunes.
-
in my imagination i play a steampowered bass guitar...
bassists in bands should actually start playing compared to just providing the lower end for the guitar.
-
lesse, i can play the trumpet (and bugle). i took a few lessons on an acoustic guitar a while back, but i've forgotten most of it. and i know the very basics of the piano.
but i can truly rock on the air guitar!
-
I'm a noisy, musical and i'd like to think melodic chikadee! my first love has always been for vocals but i also have a background in piano and i have been known to sit at a drum kit (my mate and i have an infamous ritual of 3am drunken drum lessons) and have a go or pick up a guitar/sax so yeah I usually give any musical instrument a go cause once you know a bit of musical theory its pretty easy to try anything and everything!
-
I tried guitar, didn't work out so well, tried bass, and I think I got better at bass than I ever was at guitar (either that or bass is just easier than I thought)....but then I quit practicing and its been a few years since I actually played. I always tell myself "I should pick my bass back up" but I never do......*le sigh*
-
I sing and play guitar in a band called Get Him Eat Him -- we're playing at Northsix in Brooklyn tonight (10/7) if anyone's around and wants to come see us! Whee
-
so yeah I usually give any musical instrument a go cause once you know a bit of musical theory its pretty easy to try anything and everything!
Yup, know that one.....any wind powered instrument, whether a woodwind, brass or what have you, give me a fingering cahrt and I can play it.....cant guarentee it will sound anything resembling decent, but I can play it, and will sound ok pretty quickly
-
So yeah, I can do anything a typical bass, tenor or alto could sing. I can sing soprano too, but it doesn't sound good at all.
Ooh, ahh!
Is there anything you can't do?
Apparently not...
-
I play the drums in a well....I guess we're a metal band, called the Primal Urge.
-
I play guitar and bass.
In two bands - The Orgasmic Hellos (guitar) and *sigh* Trip (bass)
-
My Air Guitar > You

You point me to a cheap one and then hell yea!
I actually advise against getting an organ. As an organ owner myself (which admittedly I got at £99 marked down from £799) I've got to say only buy an organ if you want to play an organ. The keys are not weighted, so you actually aren't playing piano at all.
-
I hate playing organs. They sound good in church, and if you play them in the right context, but I hate playing them. A nice touch-sensitive pedal'd piano just can't be beat.
-
My Air Guitar > You
That may be true, but Your Air Guitar < my oboe.
Sorry, oboe wins always. They are basically pretty woodwind DUCKS. Silliest instrument ever.

Well my electric organ has loads of keyboard sounds and stuff. Most of them are really cheesy, which is a good thing for my shitty band!

i love shitty bands..... i wish i was in a shitty band :( instead i just gatecrash everyone elses jam sessions and fool around

I'M IN TRIP!
-
lol i used to jokingly be the triangle player for my mates hardcore metal band .... but that was just a clever ploy to attract guys to gig with the promise of cleavage from the hot triangle player *sigh* how naive i was
-
Hey normz, we could start a shitty band over the net :) I play shitty drums, and I'm probably a less-than-lousy singer too!
-

*sigh*

I preface this post by saying: I am a huge band dork.
I really don't like it when people say 'Oh, I can make a sound on this instrument so that means I play it,' so I only list instruments I've played in performances when people ask me, 'What instrument do you play?'
In order of 'I consider myself a (instrument)ist. . .'
Bass clarinet
Clarinet
Alto, contra-alto, and contrabass clarinet
Baritone saxophone
Tenor saxophone
I play clarinet in my university's Concert Band and Symphony Band, and I play bass clarinet in my university's Wind Ensemble. My uni has a fanastic music program (it's not me bragging, because I'm not actually IN the music department) and the Wind Ensemble is very, very well respected and all three of the concert bands are very good (even the lowest, Concert Band, which is mostly non-music majors and freshmen music majors, is still very good!). The Wind Ensemble is entirely (except for me) upperclassmen music majors. How I'm in it, I don't know.
Additionally, I have a concert tomorrow (all three bands are playing; I'm in every piece on the concert). Wind Ensemble is playing Rhapsody in Blue and the piano soloist is the piano player for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. I'm so excited!

So do I, except for mandolin, which I would have played in concert if I owned one.

woot let me be your shitty triangle player :P
-
I wonder if it's possible to be shitty on triangle, I always figured it was just hitting the triangular part with the stick. Or is that ignorant or something?
Right so now we need a bass player and a guitarist, and we're set. Anything else is welcome too, of course. Any accordeonists around? :)
-
I play clarinet in my university's Concert Band and Symphony Band, and I play bass clarinet in my university's Wind Ensemble.
my goal is to reach that level when i get out of high school. guess i'll have to deal with life-time high of 4th chair in sr.high all-county in 10th grade... (hey, at least i made it! goin' for 2nd chair this year)
-
Well, I play the electric bass. Have so for about three years. Just joined a thrash metal band full of people way more talented than me, but forced them to let me play by showing off my fretless Warwick.
-
I play my records backwards because I'm the spawn of Satan.
-

NO.
We need 4 drum sets, half a guitar, and a ten-tier keyboard set on OBOE.
-
i play ze guitar and ze trumpet
i am teh coolness
-
i play guitar, electric bass, stand up bass, banjo, mandolin, and keys. i'm working on learning drugs.
i play in "thermodynamics" and "the band who..."
(i didn't get to name the second one)
-
i can play just about anything with strings. a little bit of sax and piano as well.
but i cant, for the life of me, get a sound out of a flute. not one you'd wanna hear, anyway ¬.¬
-
A piano has strings too, y'know.
-

touche! just about anything with strings, then. pianos and harps aren't my strong point. mandolins either, too damn tiny >.<
i don't think i'd record with anything other than bass, double bass or guitar though.
or a chapman stick if i got the chance! ::drool::

Boobs + Triangle = Profit ;)
Maybe it's even possible to play it with the boobs who knows oO''
As I am sometimes lucky ;) My Great-Grandma died long time ago but her old house is still beside ours - so I got a whole house to put my Instruments in and got enough space to Practice ... I started on Guitar when I was like 11-12, Bass Guitar 1 1/2 years ago and Drums half a year ago ... I kinda shuffeld a lotta stuff till now so I can have fun practicing until i drop on the floor ^^.
Currently playing an Eastwood Airline, some wooden Yamaha Bass and some kinda cheap Mapex Drums - and , also luckily, I got my Hands on a Microphone System with Amp now.

Fuck yeah that'd be the awesomest. And normz can play the triangle topless, for good measure :)

triangle my foot, cowbell 4tw!
-
She could hit the triangle with a cowbell :)
-
More cowbell! You always could use more cowbell!
Started off at a young age on the piano, from there I moved on to the violin. I also picked up euphonium and from there I learned trombone, and trumpet to some extent. Now, I'm working on guitar and its coming along well. My friends and I are discussing the possibilities of a band. Heh, we'll see how that goes.
-
I have a fever...
-
I was once able to play the xylophone. Buggered if I can remember anything about it now though xD
-
Hit two cow bells together. Or have an arrangement of cowbells of various sizes to make a symphony of cowbells.
-
i mostly sing, because i don't like the lack of direct control you get over instruments.
i also play electric bass and tuba, and i used to play violin and trumpet.
-
i love shitty bands..... i wish i was in a shitty band :( instead i just gatecrash everyone elses jam sessions and fool around
My friend has recently started a band. He got me and a mate around to hear them. I found a piano acordian in his house and every time they started to play I started my improvised tunes. having never piked one of things up before it was very shit and eventualy he kicked em out of his house.
It was awsome...
-
I'm learning bass guitar. It's kind of a downer because from my dad I get "ARE YOU GOOD AS LES CLAYPOOL YET?" and from everyone else I get "Oh...bass is cool too...."
I'd also like to play the accordion..that would be tight. Er..I mean...FTW
-
i play piano for my own relaxation/entertainment.
and i play bass in a black metal band.
we don't have a name.
and we're still shit.
but we'll get better i swear.
its hard being girl in black metal band. :(
i play bit of violin too.
but not for a while.
-
I play saxophone, mainly because it's sweet, but partially because I had played clarinet, then realised it sucked, and since saxophone is pretty similar...
I also plan on learning guitar in the near future.
-
Singing? voice is an instrument I suppose, drums, as in a set. I could probally play like the whole marching band thing if I put my mind too it, but I really don't want to. I've played bass before, but I don't have any skill. I play a mean recorder solo I learned in the fourth grade, it's pretty damn hardcore.
-
I play the drums. More specifically, I play the double bass drums real fast, and work around that.
-
I play guitar (mainly acoustic, although I just got an electric) and piano. I also sing and I can play bass, but I'm not terribly good at it. I used to play flute back in elementary school when my teacher forced all of his students to learn an instrument.
I too write my own stuff. I've got crappy recordings of my songs on Myspace and soundclick if you want to hear 'em.
-
I play Trombone okayish, Euphonium/Baritone pretty well, (I'm in all of the select bands and ensembles for each), I understand the rudiments of Guitar, and I can play melodies on the piano (harmonies much slower). I know I can make sound on a trumpet, but I haven't noodled around with one in a while, so I have no idea what my skill level is at.
I sing Baritone/Tenor, and am in the Jazz Choir (Select singing witout dancing ensemble) at my school as well.
I take AP Music Theory, so my writing is basically only in 4-part chorale style, although I can do basic guitar chord pregressions because they're insanely easy.
-
I play guitar (badly) and drums (average) and sing occasionally.
I'm in Slow-motion Nazi-death and *sigh* Trip.
-
i play the trumpet, a little bit of the guitar i tinker around with it every now and then, and i will be getting a bass soon sadly enough now band for me to play in :(
-
I play bass guitar. Badly. I also do vocals but I wouldn't call it singing, I stick to ranting and screaming. I do this in a band called St Jude (at least, that's what we're called this week), and just the bass on its own in Late Night Dog Fight.
-
I'm an okay Bass Clarinetist...I'm that great on regular clarinet. I'm alright at the musical saw, and I can sort of play keyboard.
-
I grew up playing piano coz it was the wishes of my parents, but I talked em into letting me quit when I was about 13. A few years ago I picked up guitar and haven't looked back since. Now I play guitar, and I prefer saying keyboard coz all I really do on their is choose a wicked synth and solo a lot! Sing a bit too
-
(ignore)
-
I play bass. I fiddle on drums, guitar, and electronic programs that I find online.
-
I thought I'd make this the first thing I post on the Q.C forums, as it's something I so rarely get to tell anyone ^.^
11 years on the Flute (and shh. Yes, I went to bandcamp... twice.)
2 on guitar (I just learnt Me vs Madonna vs Elvis from 'Brand New'!)
I can play at least three songs on a Saxaphone, clarinet, and -cough- Recorder.
And I can play one or two melodies on a piano, but nothing worthy of impression.
I feel pretty happy with those under my belt =^.^=
-
I play drums at grade 5-6 level
I can play 3 chords on guitar (G, D, and E minor 7 diminished (Which to most folks is open...)) but not well enough to join them together at any valuble speed.
I can sing. A bit.
I think thats about it...
-
Open strings on guitar in standard tuning is actually an A 11 chord. EADGBE, A+E are related by fifths implying A as the root with the fifth (E) in the bass, the G is a minor 7th than the B+D are a 9th and an 11th stacked on top of the 7th. You could also call it an A7add11 .
A E half dimished chords would be EGBbD and fully dimished is EGBbDb.
I play guitar, Bass guitar and Double bass, piano (poorly), saxaphone (just learning to play), Computer (sequencers, reason, protools, logic, etc), Some drums, some singing,
-
I could've sworn it being open is an E11.
How is it an A when there are two Es?
-
It's actually can be called an A 11 chord but is really a A9sus4. go to any chord generator to hear it .

That made no sense to me...
I just got told that was what open was...I don't play guitar :-)
Ahwell that's killed a dream.
-
don't feel bad, anyway now you can say you can play a A9sus4
-

I prefer to call it "The Tuning Song."
Also: How do you make computer-based music? Atmospherics and noise and such? I totally want to learn how so's I can incorporate it into my band (which consists of me writing all the parts except some drums so far - I play guitar, some bass, I was classically trained in piano, and I hit drums sometimes).
-
Mostly I sing (loooooove to sing) but I also played cello for about 4 or 5 years, until my teacher pissed me off too much. I played piano for a year or so, and am now restricted to Fur Elise and Chopsticks. Also teaching myself to play guitar... shv00t!
