For those of us who have not heard of them, would you care to give a description of their music?

I used to be a huge Tea Party fan - however, I stopped listening to them after Transmission, when two vitally important facts became apparent to me:

1) They were getting worse and worse with each new release (Splendor Solis is still one of the best albums of the '90s, in my opinion.  The Edges of Twilight is like a less interesting version of it.)

2) They were disappearing up their own backsides.  Seriously, when bands start believing their own hype, and especially when they stop producing the goods, it's time to jump ship.

So, kids: go out and buy Splendor Solis, and mourn what might have been.

The Tea Party are a Canadian group of some reknown up here who try and blend the musical traditions of the East and the West, which means they make rock music with sitars.

And it is very true that they have been going downhill. Their most recent, Seven Circles, is over-produced and has very few good tracks on it.

Also, and keep in mind I enjoy their music, they have a prentious streak like no one else.

Forty instruments in one song ("Sister Awake") = Pretentious.

Naming a song after a little known Russian novel ("The Master and the Marguerita") = Pretentious.

Still, they have alot of great songs out their. Try downloading something off of the aforementioned Splender Solis.

I concur.

And after seeing the video for "Temptation," I think everyone else would as well.

actually it wasn't till seven circles that i didn't like their work, in fact i loved interzone mantras and triptych, even more then edges of twilight, but splendor soils is still great, and yeah they have got quite a bit more pretentious, but i don't mind that, that much...

I love The Tea Party ... and i have to agree that their earlier work is better with splendor solis and edges of twilight being totally awesome and all but then again i do agree with dessa is saying that interzone mantras was truly awesome (as soon as i put on that albumn it takes me back to japan cause i constantly listened to that albumn while i was over there) anyways i think theya re a good band and make for perfect chill out/make out music :P

ah, tea party.  very, very big when i was in highschool.

they're okay.  i had splendor solis, which at the time, was a very creepy record.  not so much anymore.  they get a lot of flack, or did as i remember it, for jeff martin crooning to the sounds of jim morrison.  i'm not saying the comparison is fair, just that it was out there.

on the news side of things, the band no longer exists.  mr. martin has taken his family to northern ireland to work on acoustic solo records.
